If you'd prefer "we won't" then that's fine, but invariably that gets met with "that would be such a bad look" etc.

I tell you what, for a bloke they enjoy watching, they're probably more keen to see him in a North jumper than we are.

Then they've got a player who doesn't want to be in that state let alone their team blowing out their salary cap by several hundred thousand dollars a year.

Yeah that's not how it works.

If Gaff doesn't want to be in WA then he doesn't sign with WC or Freo. He can enter the draft and play for Carlton.

No we're just enjoying the authoritative North fans who think that they'll just get all the players they want and everyone else will go along with it.

You didn't get Martin. You didn't get Kelly. You didn't get De Goey. I admire the confidence after repeat failures.

I imagine the football department are kept awake at night by your crushing editorials.

The West Coast footy department used to be kept up all night by the second hand meth smoke hanging off their players.

(Oh I know I shouldn't have, but it was too easy)

My dude....we're not trading. I am genuinely glad no one with any influence cares what anyone on an internet forum thinks.

Yeah, but it doesn't work like that does it. In the real life and that.

By far and away the most likely scenario is that a few weeks ago, if not earlier, some combination of Gaff's agents and the West Coast and North list management teams met and worked through all the possible scenarios (no doubt after close reading of this thread) regarding this.

What North's offer is, what North could trade if West Coast match, what Gaff wants in terms of where he's going, his willingness to play for any Victorian club or just North blah blah. And the deal, at the very least the shape of it, will have been done.

These are businesses that turn over more than a hundred million dollars between them, Gaff's contract is worth closer to ten million than not, the manager's cut is close to a mil.

List management is something that deals in three or four ahead outlooks.

They're not just gunna wait for West Coast's season to end and go "OK Gaffy, about your deal, we're matching so you have to choose now to stay or risk ending up at Carlton. Same for you North, you've got two days to decide if you can trade or not".

It just doesn't work like that. The days of Ron Joseph getting a boom recruit down to Ma Flynn's pub and srtuffing a few fifty dollar notes and the keys to a new car into the bloke's shirt pocket and telling him he's a North player now are long gone.

The history of these things shows us that no player in this situation has re-signed with their club this late in the piece.

Gaff may set a new precedent, but far more likely a deal has been done. If West Coast were playing hardball and matching, that would have come out by now.

I never thought we'd Martin. We were only after De Goey in the mind of some Hun reporters keeping sweet with his manager.

Alternatively you could say that we've targeted three quick player this year in Polec, Hall and Gaff, and Polec and Hall are coming.

So what is the record for the number of players traded in / landed as FA's in one year?

4?

5?

6?

It'll be similar to Port last season - Motlop, Watts and Rockliff as trades/FA's, Trengove and McKenzie as DFA's, Thomas rookie draft.

Is a premiership chance more important to most players than overs in the pay packet? Gaffs situation would put a sharp point on it.

Wouldn't rule out either team as being a Premiership chance in the future after what we have seen the last few years. Not like its Carlton or Gold Coast offering the money. If i was him id take the locked in money and set yourself up for life

Well you want to hope the outcome isn't as similar to Ports then!

Bring in outsiders on too much money.

Team struggles to gel.

Twelve months later established quality players leave because the club can't pay the going market rates.;)

We live in a world where nothing is linear. We've been preparing for this for a couple of seasons now. I know I'd rather be bringing in Polec and Gaff in career best form to fill our outside class hole than your Watts or Motlops. If we lose a player in a year or so because another team has to pay above the norm then that's just the nature of the beast.

Easy yes.

Classy, clever or very intelligent?

No, not really.

But if the hat fits!

Unlike all the hilarity about North being a charity case etc.

Meh.

a) It's still our home ground that we train and play on.
b) We are paying some. Too busy propping up football in Victoria.
c) Should have taken Vlad's magic millions.:D
How many of your posts worth reading ?? Im tipping not many.
Not sure youve heard ----there are whispers that GCS have 2 yrs to show growth on and off the park.
Otherwise they're goneski. The record for sporting teams up there trying to establish themselves is woeful .......soccer , basketball and maybe AFL.
I do not speak for the club but I'm happy just the way my team is tracking on and off the park, in these times.

Well that at least is actually real as compared to your comment about Eagles staff on meth.o_O

I didn't say the staff were on meth, I said players had been.

That's factually correct.

Why? How does it advantage the club to come out by now?

I didn't say the club would have announced it.

If I were Connors and Gaff wanted to come home and the Eagles were making noises about matching, I'd straight away leak it to create a narrative that advantages my client: "Poor Gaffy wants to come home but Eagles are playing hard ball and won't let him."

AFLPA would love that as ammo for their push to further "de-restrict" free agency.

BTW - I took a hint and Watched Worpel in the finals. Well, I tried to, it was pretty hard to lay eyes on him at any point actually. He did play right?
Gaff may be fine with staying.

He did play but struggled.

1. Get your sarcasm meter fixed.

2. Gold Coast are going nowhere in the next two years. The AFL have invested millions and aren't going to turf their 17th team 3-4 years into a 6 year TV rights deal that requires an 18 team competition.
