Anthony Rocca v Scott Lucas

This raises some major concerns on your match committee if they're playing lame players don't you think? If they run out onto the ground the old 'injured' excuse should not be used if they play badly. He still had a Collingwood jumper on and still was on the ground.

There was a thread about whether we stuffed up on our club board. I am of the opinion that he must have been right to play and that the main reason of his poor game was his inconsistency. It's nice to have an excuse in hindsight though ;).

You can't have it both ways. Either your match committee made a huge mistake or Rocca was just being Rocca.

Well look at it this way, that's one of Rocca's better years for goalkicking, that was one of Lloyd's worst (in a full season). Rocca is your no. 1 forward, Lloyd is still our no. 1 and is treated accordingly... double-teamed every game. Someone mentioned Rocca being double-teamed, I don't think I've ever seen Rocca get the ball when he's had more than one player on him... or any for that matter!

You cant be serious....u dont even need to be a biased idiot to put forward a case that Lucas is better than Rocca, because he has a better record. But u just continue to put forward dribble, Rocca is the best pack mark in the league....and how many players do you see take marks when they are double and triple teamed??

Go back and watch the pies v essendon games from this year, up one end the pies had Rocca and T.Cloke marking everything and making Fletcher, Michael, and Ryder look stupid......up the other end u had Lloyd and Lucas struggling to win a contest, and getting a few cheap goals.

I reserve the right to manipulate the facts to suit any debate I am in.

This is on Rocca so I will blame our match committee. If this debate was on our useless match committee then I would blame Rocca.

Not really, playing Rocca meant that Harley and Milburn were dropping off their men to help swamp Rocca. This enabled T.Cloke and Medhurst to each kick 3 goals.

Getting within 5 points of a rampaging Geelong, think the woods did most things pretty right!

Close to silliest thread of all time actually.

If it was Anthony Rocca v Witches Hat then it would be a close call.

I hate Essendon but Lucas is more important to their make up than Rocca is. Rocca has Ried T.Cloke and Rusling around him. Lucas has nothing. Lucas is a good footballer.

Port Adelaide's new name is The Alberton Witches Hats.

This thread is pointless just like arguing Geelong is better than Hawthorn.

Rocca is a great contested mark, probably 2nd behind J.Brown for me. But he is a 1 trick pony, the reason he takes so many contested marks is because he doesn't have the legs to take uncontested marks on the lead.
When the ball hits the ground he is downright embarrising.

I acknowledge that he is important to Collingwood's forward structure but I really don't rate him as a good footballer. If you rated players on every aspect of the game, Rocca would get full marks for contested marking and long kicking, but then poor marks for every other category.

Agree with that, a fairly decent trick to have tho!! Would also add that Rocca is one of the few players with an intimidating presence surrounding him. Something that Lucas lacks.

But as an overall package Lucas much better

massively over-rating rusling and reid, two kids who have played a dozen games combined!!

fairly sure Lucas has had a bloke called Lloyd alongside him for most of his career.....handy forward that Lloyd bloke!

Pretty sure Lloyd's 800+ goals is a little something more than hype surrounding Rusling and T. Cloke's "amazing" year!

Cloke (39 goals, 25 games), Rusling (10, 5), Medhurst (24, 17) Rocca (54, 23) = 127 goals

Lucas (61 goals, 22 games) Lloyd (62 goals, 19 games) = 123 goals

2 of our players beat 4 of yours!

I can't wait til ANZAC Day 2008!!!

??? Fletcher an AA defender, Michael a 3X premiership FB

Harry O'Brien, a kid making his way and Lucas couldn't beat him in a contest.

Lucas is a much better player than Ant, but not sure why ur trying to have a go at the only part of the game that Ant is better than Lucas, physical contests!

Because he is a big lad, doesn't mean he uses it, big and soft!!!

Nah being the leagues leading contested mark aint using his bulk to his advantage!

Could pick out any number of points to show why Lucas is a better player, yet you choose to try and have a dig using the only aspect where Rocca is better!

Rocca taking contested marks is BS. I'm going to have a dig purely because he is shit!

Lucas has gone from being under rated to over rated in the last 2 years. He is a good player but I don't think he turns games. Not many outside Collingwood rate Rocca so it is a self serving comparison I suspect. Rocca takes contested marks. That is clear possession others wouldn’t win. Rocca will again be one of if not the main keys to Collingwood next year and they will finish top 4. If they get a ruckman (Wood?) who knows. I would rather go into a final without Cloke than without Rocca and I wouldn't swap Cloke for Lucas if Essendon threw in their first 2 draft picks.

Given how they play I think Cloke and Lucas is a better comparrison. Lucas is better now but so is Rocca. It won't be long before Cloke has them all covered. Some time in 2008. Neither Lucas or cloke will amtch Rocca for good old fashioned CHF type hard body work and contested marking though.

Rocca's never kicked 7 goals in a quarter... well if Rocca's best is better than Lucas' best I haven't seen it yet!!!
In 2007 Lucas kicked 7 in the last in a come from behind loss. Rocca kicked 4 in a come from behind win. Rocca regularly has those kind of quarters and regularly turns matches.

Now that Lloyd doesn't have a good ruck and midfield to supply him he has come back to the field. Rocca has had that his whole career. Rocca is a good KP forward. I also like Lucas. Sheedy once wanted to swap them was the rumour (quite a few years back).

No right foot, never handballs, can go missing for large periods, little defensive pressure. All reasonably valid criticisms of Lucas, but he most certainly turns games. The 7 goals in a quarter is the big and most obvious one, but Lucas often won't do anything for a half and then pop up and kick 3 goals in 5 minutes to totally change a game.
