Strategy Are Adelaide trying to win?

With Jason Horne in Adelaide’s backyard, they played Himmelberg last night who didn’t trouble the scorers last week in the SANFL, while not naming Lynch who kicked 3, nor Fogarty or McAdam.

They have Eagles, Dogs, Port and Dees in the stretch home.

They then play North in round 23, and at this stage the AFL might need to send armed guards to the ground, just to make sure both clubs actually take the field.

You do realize North will need to win 3 more games to pass Adelaide and we are favourites against none of our opponents for the rest of the year.

Himmelberg didn't play.

But yeah we're obviously on the tank, as we should be.

I think there’s three sides doing it.
Pies would be if they hadn’t already handed their 1st over to the Giants.

When we played Worpel and Jaeger out of the square against North….

What an outrage.

Rewarding failure, that is.

Nobody should ever be on the tank. Some experimentation is fine, clearly when at the bottom of the table things aren't working. That might mean different positions, giving a borderline youngster a go over a borderline senior player, etc. But tanking - as in not trying to win - should never happen. And not just for the integrity of the league (if it has any).

Moving one spot up the draft order really doesn't matter that much. The difference between the #1 and #2 (or #3 to #4) players is not really going to be that great, and what they develop into is going to be at least up to the club they end up at as their junior abilities anyway. Even when the #1 is a real stand-out, #2 is still a potential multiple Brownlow winner. However, not trying to win could have an impact on the nefarious and nebulous "culture".

Personally, I would lower the cap floor and scrap the draft but I know I am in a tiny minority on the second part and the AFLPA will not allow the first.

I lean towards 'they are just sh*t' but that game did raise the eyebrows a little.

We know tanking has gone on rampantly in the past, so it's illogical to bury your head in the sand and dismiss the idea that it could be happening again. On the other hand, they do suck and sometimes teams just suck - like my team that is too incompetent to even be in a position to tank.

Still, if we're lucky we might get treated to a Kreuzer Cup in the last round.

Yep tanking never ends well. Blues and Melbourne had tons of high end picks and got nowhere. Tigers had a few and well...

A winning culture is way more important

We won our last game last year. Belted the Suns.

The boys probably needed a win, but geez our board took it hard after investing in the draft discussions so feverishly.

In all seriousness I don't think we're tanking. There are too many contradictions going on.

Playing well against good sides and managing to come back against the Saints when we looked even worse than last night. We've also been picking certain go to senior players that are always our 'stay competitive players'. Add to that we've got a lot of good senior players injured atm and lost two during the game.

We were just genuinely shit last night imo.

Of course they are, they are just poor.

They try to kill a game off early and hold on, works when energy is high and at home.
Doesn’t work so well other times.

I think we are very shit and we are sort of tanking. Our list is abysmal right now and will take some time and solid drafting to correct. We have many players that shouldn’t be anywhere near an AFL list - several played last night. Poor old Billy Frampton tries hard but he heads up that group.

100% this. Of all the dumb rules the AFL has - this is one of the worst. Why a shithouse team has to be pay 95% of the cap or whatever is totally beyond me

Lowering the cap floor was what would have saved Fitzroy. They asked and were knocked back.

They look like they are giving Frampton an extended run over Himmelberg and Lynch at the moment. Not sure How long he has left on his contract but this may well be his last chance.
