By which I mean drop off a cliff. Maybe not this year, but all their key players, espically their midfield are old, and there's every chance they could all retire/have a huge form drop all at the same time. Simple question, are Hawthorn going to slowly slide down the ladder or are they going to crash from the top 4 to the bottom 4 over 12 months?

Brisbane 2001 and 2002 : Won the QF, PF, and won the GF
Brisbane 2003: Lost the interstate QF to Collingwood, won the SF, won an interstate PF against Sydney, who beat 1st placed Port in week 1, before slaughtering their QF opponent Collingwood by 10 goals.
Brisbane 2004: Won the QF and the PF, lost the GF

Hawthorn 2013 and 2014: Won the QF, PF and won the GF
Hawthorn 2015: Lost the interstate QF to West Coast, won the SF, won an interstate PF against the 1st placed team Freo, before slaughtering their QF opponent West Coast by 10 goals
Hawthorn 2016: Out in straight sets?

Notice how well they line up, espcially 2003 and 2015, one year before their dynasties ended?

One of the things that I think will prevent Hawthorn ever falling off a cliff, is that their forwards are all still young and usually very, very efficient. So even if they get smashed across the field from the few amounts of entries they get I think they will still win enough games to never go full Brisbane.

Have a few getting old but they are still a destination club for FA and players wanting out of other clubs.

Dominant era may be closing but won't fall too far.

Fourth flag looking shaky, first final will tell the tale.
Are we still going to be a destination club when we slide that is the question?

Need some talls. No one is making a bloody contest.

They ain;t so young either. Pops is getting on. Bruest, Cyril and Gunner have a few more years

Not sure we are (destination club for FA). Frawley came to win flags (if we are crap that won't happen). Meanwhile, Franklin, Suckling, Young, Ellis and a handful of others have left through FA. 1 player in and 6 out does not sound all that destination to me, particularly if we are falling down the ladder.

Lake wanted to come to the Hawks to play in flags, and from memory so did Burgoyne.

When Hodge, Gibson, Mitchell, Burgoyne and Lewis go the Hawks are stuffed.
And that time is very very close.

Have we actually seen a decrease in output from those guys though? To me Hawthorn's problem is not their senior players as they are still playing at a high level, it is their 17 to 22 players who are not as strong as they were in the past because of retirements and other clubs poaching them promising first team football. They just don't have the depth they had a year or two ago.

Will do what Sydney have done twice in 10 years, Geelong did the past 2 seasons and Hawthorn did between 09 and 11 to an extent. Go down to the bottom part of the 8 or just outside and rebuild from there, dont need to necessarily completely bottom out.
