It just shows that #1 draft picks (and other priority picks) aren't the be all and end all when developing a list.

No team has ever won a flag using draft picks, bar maybe West Coast (Cousins aside).

Sydney had a number of zone selections, Brisbane had millions of them + Brown and those acquired through trading Fitzroy pick ups. Geelong had their breeding colony and Port had a whole lot of zone concessions.

If you want to develop a list you need help outside of the draft as has been proven time and time again. The draft levelled the playing field to the benefit of those able to acquire players elsewhere.

stkilda peaked 3 years ago why GT is gone is beyond me!! He had the respect of the players HAD the players playing for each oither. thats all a coach can do is have his players playing for each other. Ross doesnt have that he is more a mate of the boys who they like.
its sad, sad for me to watch this. Stkilda players are soft in the fact they are out for a good time the kind of team to take girls on interstate trips rather than focus on the hard yards. Yep thats right thats fact. They are show ponys with great talent but with no focus.

GT changed the "party, slack on field, im a star" culture at the saints and nearly had them back to back flags. Out with GT and back in comes the culture.

I pretty much agree - seem to have missed the boat now and time to rebuild.

Number of people who think Saints are overrated >>> Number of people who think we are premiership contenders. Considering those who think we are overrated are now the majority I would say we are not overrated but simply not rated.

I admit I was optimistic of our chances this year (tipped us for top 4) but that seems out of reach now. I still think we could turn it around, it's early days yet, but then again all but maybe 4 or so teams could turn it around and make top 4 based on their lists if you ask me. I refuse to concede that we are gone for the next few years, but there is something very wrong at the club at the moment. It could be the coaching, the gameplan, the administration, the injuries, the lack of effort of the players, the players themselves or all of the above who knows? At this stage it certainly looks like no one at the club does.

All I ask for the game against Richmond is some heart, some passion, some teamwork and a four bloody quarter effort. I don't care if we get thrashed by last years wooden spooners, which may well happen at this rate, so long as everybody out there tries their absolute heart out (and I am of the opinion that if our players do all of the above, it will be us doing the thrashing)

My personal belief is Lyon doesn't have the requisite cattle to implement his chosen game plan , so he should modify his game plan to suit his cattle , play Fraser and the Sainters will do far better than they are at present.

Dont think Lyons has the nouse to change anything and maybe the players are sick of him.

Anyone tipping us as top 4 over rated us, no doubt. But most level headed supporters felt a top 8 finish was a more realistic goal - and still very much attainable. Although we would wanna pick up the slack in our form.....

Injuries ruined it for a couple of years. And Butters and Thomas issues has brought the club to the brink. Now game plan of Lyon is ruining their talents, and bringing more misery, if possible.

Why on earth would you redraft the G-Train? Why on earth would you want Harvey to play on?

Players like Armitage and Jones have missed out on number of games this year because of it.

Overrated yes. Very good side in 04-05. I personally think injuries cost them a premiership in 05.

I think their premiership window is closed now and they need to rebuild their midfield. And a better coach wouldn't hurt either.

I don't know how the Aints continue to be rated so highly. They are an exact replica of Sydney with better forwards. Well whoop dee doo!!

Although still one of the better lists they have a terminal deficiency in their midfield for mine. Really need Armitage and one or two others to develop quickly to support Hayes, Dal and Montagna in there.

The Saints game against us isn't a fair comparison for the argument, as they are our bunnies. We always beat them.

It would be the same as questioning us last year because the Crows beat us twice. Some teams just have the wood over other teams. There are examples all over the AFL.

Well truth to tell I thought we were in with a shot in 04/05 and even a bit of 06 though that year turned into hoping we would make an impact on the finals and who knows maybe get through if all went well as skill helps but luck plays a part and damnit who doesnt secretly think/hope their team will win a GF.

Last year I started out optimisticly hoping for a solid season and get lower 8 with the new coach, though that didnt last long at all. I was happy with more wins than losses in the run at the end of the season but I wouldnt say I thought we would do much this year, a small improvement to the finals seemed likely.
We havent beaten any good teams for quite awhile and our playing style sucks and has for some time (dont think I have rated us as either flamboyant, skillful or even interesting to watch in ages).

Well we have that list under Rossy not Roosy and be damned if I can tell the difference between them.

p.s. I agree with the rating of our cattle vs yours but that makes me wonder why Rossy is trying such a negative (sorry in Lyon speak I mean accountable) style......be nice if someone was accountable for something.
