There was a moment about 5 min ago, when they moved the ball on the switch methodically and cleanly up the near side, getting the ball around 70m out. While Sydney were back in numbers, there was a lot of empty grass between the ball and the goalsquare, with Melbourne's talls available; there were genuine one on ones if they moved the ball quick or someone led into the vacant space.
In their premiership year, Melbourne would already have moved. They'd have gone to the vacant grass, knowing that someone will be leading there and directing it in low and hard and fast.
Tonight as with before and since that flag, Melbourne held onto the ball because no-one ****ing moved. Not a single player even attempted a lead. The player with the ball didn't try and draw a lead with the quick low stab, but the forwards don't want to do the work.

Love the Dees plan of attack.
