Well I think (and its not his fault really) is partly because he played for the juggernaut that is Collingwood.

Was he actually a better player and career than say Joel Selwood (a contemporary of his) ?

I am not convinced he was a better player than Nathan Buckley either really.
what's that got to do with it? overrated because you don't think he's better than two of the greatest players of all time? fmd.....

... well, yes.

One of these blokes is as famous for drawing frees as he is for leadership.

Buckley never won a flag. With Bucks, it was all about him at all times. Pendlebury has played off half back over recent times, and has been pretty content to let De Goey, Crisp, Adams, Moore, the two Daicos's take the lead.

He's happier to play his role. He doesn't have that aspect of selfishness that Bucks had.

Pencles - one of the great leaders of my generation. Highly skilled and a great career. However, I don't believe there was ever a year where he was in the top 5 players in the competition and I'd have to go over each individual season to be convinced he was ever in the top 5 mids in the league.

Regardless, a fantastic career and Collingwood or not absolutely worthy of the respect that he gets.

Joe D is far more likeable than any of the tossers playing for Collingwood (including the overrated Pendlebury)

Pendles? Who has been one of the most consistent players over the last 15 years?

Just my opinion, I feel like some in the media and Collingwood fanbase place Pendlebury on pedestal he doesn't deserve given the rich history of their club (such as people saying Pendlebury being the greatest Collingwood player of all time)

Not his fault obviously, but recency bias often makes us forget the greats/legends of the past, especially those who played before we were born and or played before we had ample footage of them playing.

Happy for others to agree to disagree with me though (provided I don't get tomatoes thrown at me)

For me, Tony Lockett was/is the greatest player i ever saw in my lifetime following footy (I am 43) and I cannot say categorically he is the best player ever, just the one who had the most profound impact and impression on me as a footy fan.

Would have loved to have seen the likes of Haydn Bunton Snr play (I have read a lot of old football books and anecdotes over the years, I suspect he could well be the greatest footballer of all time, but we will never know for sure)

Criticising Pendle's is like shooting Bambi, he's a lovely chap, admired for his selflessness, but he is holding out a young bloke whilst he marches onto 400, can't kick it over 30 metres, has slowed significantly, misses targets, stubs kicks, gets caught in tackles.....
But hey it's Pendles, just give him the free kick

so he's over-rated because you don't consider him the greatest collingwood player of all time?

This is a wild take given he’s a six time all Australian.

Pendles at his best was absolutely brilliant and I feel like the only reason he gets talked down around here is cause we took Murphy instead.

No, just No. Pendles has been an amazing player & good bloke his entire career- have huge respect for him (even thou he plays for the toothless wonders)
JD is a tool of the highest order - makes up a part of the most overrated & weak forward duo ever “Kmart & The Fwit” R u forgetting his years of diving & yips?

Pretty sure he just kicked it from the centre square to mcstay and goaled

It's funny in the last two minutes Pendle's is making me eat my words......

It's Collingwood, can't bring myself to 'appreciate' anything in black and white

Not in any way agreeing with that extinct marsupial
Pendles again that’s three assists in a row…:)

He's not holding anyone out.
The Filth are very reliant on him (and Sidebottom) playing well.
