Did he lie? He lied about the sandpaper but I'd be willing to bet if he didn't come out in a press conference and admit to ball tampering this would have disappeared overnight.

If anything he was punished for being too honest.

Further, CA's investigation found that it was Smith who directed "that evidence of attempted tampering be concealed on the field of play". In other words, Smith told Bancroft to hide the sandpaper in his trousers.

Smith was also found to have "misled match officials and others regarding Bancroft's attempts to artificially alter the condition of the ball" and "misleading public comments regarding the nature, extent and participants of the plan".

i see henriques is having a sook about not being picket for the ashes, questioning the 'logic' of the selectors, despite the fact he hasnt played any shield cricket this year and averages 24 in tests and 37 in first class.

maybe get back to us when you average 48 in first class and 55 in tests, get dropped 3 tests after making 200 for a selectors favourite despite that player being in shocking form, and then not being recalled when that player retires mid way through the next series.

maybe don't bang the selectors wife

allegedly

He averaged 70 with the bat last season and 51 the season before that. Not sure what else he could have done.

I'd have had him in the Australia A squad ahead of Mitchell Marsh, tbh.

Also Brad Hodge retired 10 years go. It's time to let it go.

I've only just let go of Mark Waugh staying in the team ahead of Deano

You'd have to say Perth test unlikely at this stage given new strain.
Adelaide, Sydney and MCG should be certain.
Brisbane if first up should be ok.
Final test TBC.
Personally don't really enjoy the MCG tests as much, tend to be dour.
SCG or Adelaide should get second game.
The SCG pitch has been dross for a while now, and with the MCG improving, is now probably the worst of the major grounds. Adelaide is only a good pitch for the pink ball games, pretty boring for red ball.

All of that is irrelevant, give it to Hobart and be done with it.

It says sans Warne but then like how were blokes like Matthew Hayden, Darren Lehmann, Michael Slater not genuine dickheads?
I wouldn't put Lehmann in with those blokes, the other 3, sure they seem like total flogs. Lehmann has had a couple of bad moments but was always a popular teammate and coach.

Back in the glory days when Australia kept winning with players such as Warne, Gilchrist, Ponting, Clarke, McGrath, etc, there was definitely a tone on this forum suggesting tall poppy syndrome. A lot of people didn't like Australia because they kept winning all the time. Can you imagine that? They were watching some of the best cricketers of all time and weren't happy. I wonder at times just how many genuine cricket lovers post in here.
That team was so good, I couldn't imagine not rooting for them. I started following the aussie team hardcore as a kid, probably 1981 through until probably 6 to 7 years back. Just before Lehmann ended his reign as coach. Lost the passion a fair bit maybe a few seasons before. I probably found it hard to get excited when all the guns finished up. Michael Clarke was probably the only player I disliked in that period but since retirement I have added a few blokes to that list. I think it depends on what you have going on in your life in regards to how much you get wrapped up in the aussie team winning and losing. It's also 90% business now, money making so I don't feel the same way anymore.

There was a lot of flogishness from the Aussie team of 15-20 years ago but the recent lot are worse because they engage in just as much verbal abuse (if not more) but don't back it up with results.
What verbal abuse has Australia been engaged in in the last 3 or so years?

Do you actually believe that? It's always hard to know what actually happens out there but there is no way there is more verbal abuse than the early 2000's

This says that Inglis trip home was pre planned as he is now out of quarantine

"Inglis is set to return to Brisbane soon after his pre-planned trip to see family, but the growing expectation is that it will likely be for an Australia A tour game rather than the first Test.

An intra-squad match on Wednesday was set to reveal some selection clues, but wet weather is expected to ruin at least two days of that tune-up."

The article does suggest they are leaning Carey though

but can't rule out Inglis yet if he is just popping home after months to see family

He'll mention the Paine/Ashwin thing but probably won't have much more to back it up.
Geez I wouldn't call that abuse. I saw NZ do worse to Pakistan about a week before that when Ashraf and Rizwan looked like they were going to save a Test match.

I watch a lot of test cricket and the three most abusive/aggressive teams currently are england india and south africa, in particular this current england team are always involved in some sort of issue during their big series, few of the recent india vs england and england vs south africa were pretty nasty compared to anything our current lost have had last 2 years.
