Assistant Coaches - wanted

One name not mentioned here as a Senior Assistant coach is Terry Wallace...shame, as he has a vast knowledge of the game, is an ex-premiership player & did his best work at Footscray when little was expected of him. IMHO I think he would be a wonderful addition to our club, but whether the club would be so bold as to chase him, I don't think so.

Ayres and Wallace are both past their "use by" dates IMO. Chase the likes of Harvey or Mooney. Guys still with passion for footy. Wallace has been out of the game for too long and while Ayres might have coached VFL it's way different to the big boys. Ask any of the young blokes who step up. Young blood is what is needed. Wallace and Ayres both have sizeable egos as well. Not enough room in the coaches box!

I honestly laughed when I saw Plough's name mentioned.. Why don't we appoint Ayres & Wallace senior assistant roles so they can show Vossy how to screw up a club!

Seriously though I think head coaching of a VFL/SANFL club can be overrated (think G. Ayres at Adelaide & M. Knights at Essendon). We want fresh ideas and clever people in the roles..

I have a left field suggestion but could Matthew Clarke be offered a Ruck Coach role? I know he is established in Adelaide, but the new head coach may want to go in a different direction?

That was certainly the intention Gibbo, but still nothing to confirm as yet.

They are critical appointments and the Club wants to make sure they get the best possible people in those roles.

But hopefully we have something to report soon.

Good to hear. Thanks for the info :thumbsu:

Fair enough, probably a fair bit of movement in assistants yet to happen pending Saints getting a coach.

Would be good to get someone soon though in time for pre-season planning

Is this what we might be waiting on?

Saints now down to two - Scott Watters and Ken Hinkley, if Watters was to be appointed... might Hinkley think it worth his while to put another club on his CV by accepting a move up from GCS to the Gabba?

Damn. Would have been nice to reunite him with Daniel Rich.

Ah well, another Buckley assistant gone at least.

Would be nice to give some main board Collingwood trolls a piece of their action...

"What's with Buckley... all his assistant coaches are leaving in droves!"

Apart from Harvey, who would be a contenter to come to the Lions? I can't really think of anyone else out there who would be beneficial to our group. Keep Gary Ayres away from us please.

Haters gonna hate... Constantly, just in case we all forgot their opinion from last time.

I think that no matter what the club does some people are always going to just complain for the sake of it.

It's pretty obvious that all the people who post on this board acting like they know more than the people employed by the club, actually do.

Aren't we looking for a defence and ruck coach? Isn't Harvey a midfeild coach, plus I think there has been mention of him going to Collingwood.
If not it will be only a matter of time before Manchester City, I mean Melbourne throw money at him and appoint him.
