AUSTRALIA'S World Cup bid organisers have been cleared of allegations they attempted to mislead the government with so-called "dual accounts" to hide spending of taxpayers' money, prompting soccer chiefs to mount a furious attack on the Fairfax newspaper group and threaten legal action.

I do hope Fairfax get the book thrown at them for this shoddy piece of gutter journalism.

Also being reported on Fox Sports News.

I take it all back.

To plonk $11 million of taxpayer money directly into the bank accounts of two of the biggest shysters known to mankind is perfectly legitimate.

Of course it is.

Who could possibly have imagined there would be anything wrong with that.

Shame on the The Age for trying to tell us what's happening with our money - what right do we all have to know such details?

Shame on us!!

So after an investigation that must have lasted a couple of days the government taskforce "accept your assurance that the existence of the planning document does not mean the FFA maintains 'dual' financial reporting and records."

God you are an idiot. In the original funding agreement, FFA specified that they were going to spend 11.76 million on international consultants to win the World Cup bid. And what actually happened? We spent 11.76 million on international consultants (and that's only if we win the bid, half that amount if we don't). Shock - Horror - the FFA did as was agreed with the funding agreement. Seriously mate, drop it and move on.

Just like any government project, you have one set of financial records that shows expected costs, and one that has actual costs (the same thing happened in Melbourne with the M1 upgrade, which went hundreds of millions of dollars over budget, and this was only found out in the when the final analysis was compared to the original budget). FFA haven't even gone over their original budget and idiots like you guys are up in arms - what a joke.

This is according to The Age:

"The May 2009 accounting document includes two different spreadsheets; the first spreadsheet outlines what FFA managers were told about expenditure and the second outlines what the federation planned at that time to report to the government.

In one example of the varying figures, the document shows FFA management was advised that $602,500 would be spent on community programs, but the government was was to be told that community programs would cost $3,416,665."

So according to you, whoever was in charge of the M1 upgrade project should be thrown in jail because it cost a couple of hundred million dollars more then expected? Laughable.

Whats the M1 upgrade project got to do with anything:confused:

Just one of many examples of a government funded project that ended up costing far more then what the books originally said. Where's all the claims of corruption & scandal there? Nowhere of course, because it doesn't have anything to do with football :)

So now Fairfax has joined the long list of conspirators against soccer in this country. Fairfax - cunningly disguised as the sponsors of Melbourne Victory and employers of Craig Foster, have now joined with all the other dark and shadowy forces which have long denied soccer's glorious destiny.
Or perhaps soccer is just run by idiots and crooks.

Has that been alleged? I must have missed that.

Going by your logic, then yes, whoever managed the M1 upgrade must be put in jail because it ended up costing the taxpayer a couple of hundred million dollars more then the books originally said. I mean, how outrageous.

Funnily enough, I severely doubt you even battered an eyelid when it was announced the M1 upgrade cost far more then originally intended - yet you are throwing around delusional accusations at the FFA when all they have done is spend 11.76 million on international consultants (who are doing a bloody good job) - as agreed with the government's original funding agreement.

The FFA now says the first document was an internal planning document. Sounds exactly like what Justin Madden said about the Windsor Hotel scam. Did anyone believe him? But it's OK, the government took his word for it and cleared him. Just like the feds have now done for the FFA.
How dumb do they think we are? Don't answer that.

I've never heard of the M1 upgrade and have no idea what you are ranting about (not for the first time). How this relates to the story in The Age that I have quoted I have no idea.

afl media making up bullshit to try and derail the wc bid...while i never ;)

cheers for keeping the wc bid in the news you incompetant crunts, stick to whatever it is you "report" best.

God how it must hurt BSE and his followers that the FFA have been cleared of any wrong doing.

As many thought all along, this was nothing other than a defamotory, scandalous attempt to derail our World Cup bid.

Well done FFA, continue running a fantastic bid!!

I'm happy for the 4th estate to continue applying the blow torch on the expenditure of taxpayer money, and for Warner and all the other members of the FIFA Exec Committee to know that's happening.

Absolutely ideal from my perspective.

It's one thing to hand out brown paper bags, it's quite another to do it knowing someone is watching.

There has always been someone watching, yet that doesn't seem to have achieved anything.

I hope if the FFA find they have any grounds for legal action that they take it and take a stand.

Just shows how poor journalism really is in this country.

So are you saying the FFA is NOT putting $11m into the back pockets of 2 shadowy consultants? Because that is what the story was all about to me.

no

it was about FFA lying to the government about what the money was being spent on.
which has being proven to be incorrect.

also technically this post here could be considered
Or perhaps soccer is just run by idiots and crooks.
a defamatory statement
