Australia T20 squad: Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa

-----------------------------
we need to pick a new captain, but who??

Maxwell or Inglis from that squad would be my guess for captain

Short, Zampa and Hardie are the only other possibilities.

Maxwell seems to be the obvious choice seeing it is as only as a stand in captain.

I think that signals the end of Wade and fair enough too. He will be there as an assistant coach though.

Maybe Warner will put up his hand to captain now that he is eligble ;)

I personally wouldnt even have Tim David in an Australia A side.

2 failed World Cup performances, did bugger all for the Hobart Hurricanes last year, did nadda for his IPL franchise last year. Continuously hides down the bottom of the batting order playing as a specialist batsman. We are talking about 7 and 8 for his franchises. If you arent in the team as a bat, even to come out and block out a few balls when your team loses early wickets- you should be nowhere near the team.

The Big man is stealing a living off a better player.

Has never batted lower than 6 for Australia and averages 28 at a strike rate of 168.

There are only 2 players with better strike rates in the history of T20Is from Test playing nations (min 250 balls faced). Rinku Singh and Suyarkumar Yadav. That's it.

He's there to score runs quickly, it doesn't matter if he gets out for 2 (2) or 8 (5) as long as he's trying to do it quickly. That's his role and the very nature of it means he'll suck more than he'll be good.

He isnt clutch enough in big moments for me. Whenever Hobart have needed him to finish games off, he has more often failed than succeeded. There is a reason why Australia didn't win the T20 World Cup in the past 2 campaigns, there is a reason why the Hobart Hurricanes have failed despite having stacked teams in the past 4 seasons.

One should judge a player when the big moments matters. I dont think it will bother Tim David as he is guaranteed to be playing in T10, T20 leagues around the world. I also dont think he can be selected as his form doesn't warrant it, but most importantly having him selected I dont think bolsters Australia chances of winning the T20 World Cup in 2026.

I happened to attend one of the games where Tim David played last season, when he pretty much scored junk runs against West Indies in Perth. If your to judge him, judge him in the big moments- when a game is up on the line.........

And if you bring his averages into play, its not as impressive as it sounds given the amount of DNB and Not outs included in there:

Tim David and the Australian public I dont think will ever know how good he really is. One thing if your going to have David in your team, maybe he could be promoted up the order if teams get off to flyers. 2 scores of 50+ in an international career, isn't form to judge on alone.

Id be interested in the crowd figure given the promotion and marketing on Monday.

The focus has been more on the tests with India this summer. Melbourne Cup on the Tuesday.

Under or Over 13,000 on Monday?

There's a match on Monday?

Can't recall too much promotion for it
