They showed the shot from spidercam, if the ball hit the wire, the camera would have shook wouldn't it?
The counter balance weights & gyros would be more than enough to offset any movement due to the ball hitting the wire.. If it can stand wind, quick sudden movements, it can stand a slight deflection of a ball hitting the wire..

Channel 9 already making excuses not to ask Smith..

Good stuff by Hads but I don't think it's out

Was taking the piss with my last post, obviously the wire has got in the way, but I'm more interested in what would happen if it created a catch? I.e. a batsman hits it, all of a sudden hits spidercam and deviates and a fielder gets a catch he otherwise wouldn't have. Is that just shit luck? Or should the fielding side withdraw their appeal in the name of cricket?
Would be a dead ball.

I thought he mouthed the word "why".

I like all the lip-reading experts here.

As far as we know, and won't learn anything more until a player talks to the media, Smith just got flustered with the sun and everything.

"Why"

WTF he clearly says "The Wire".

sour grapes
Well let's see, caught at bat pad, not out despite definitive edge, should have been run out a little later and then a drop catch. The way you've carried on all summer don't throw stones in glass houses.

It's supposed to be a dead ball if it hits spidercam (and presumably associated wires).

It's considered a dead ball if it hits the spider cam.

Might have been some glare off it or something that put him off and not the ball actually hitting the wire.

Cricket >>> wacky camera angles.

From the angle of the spidercam replay it looked like it was still behind him when he put his hand up to shield his eyes though.
