I find it interesting that people are blaming the pitch, instead of the appalling mistakes in the field by both sides. Yes it's a good pitch, but both teams have been well below par in the field. If chances had been taken when they were presented, Australia may have been batting for a second time by now!!!

I don't get Australia. They basically batted this game towards a draw by making 570 over practically 2 days. Batting for a day and the first session is where you want to be IMO. Make a steady 300 on the first day then if suitable have a swing the next morning to get to about 450.

That has never been the general strategy in approaching a test match. Make the most of the best batting conditions while you can and get 500-600, even if it takes till after tea on the second day. Send their batters in tired and worn out after the best part of two days in the field chasing leather. Don't rely on batting on the last day when the pitch is breaking up.

Not as bad as Melbourne. There has still been a bit there. Not the curators fault that the spinners bowling has been very poor.
rubbish its worse or just as bad. there was also some spin in melbourne come day 3. Needs to be put to a stop 12 wickets in 3 days, that continues and more and more will be put off test cricket.

There was a bit there early, how many catches do both teams want to drop? That the curators fault now? I want it to be a little more green, but at least there were a few beating the outside edge, and it has turned.

To be fair quite a few catches were dropped in Melbourne and it still rightfully copped flak. Hopefully this pitch actually deteriorates though

Not nearly enough on day 5. Most are pretty over drop in pitvhes too. I know in prefer South African or English pitches. They provide a contest

Make 450 or less on this sort of pitch and then you are likely going to be the one batting to save the match on day 4 or 5.

If anything i think the case could be made that if you are scoring at 5+ an over like we were at the end of our innings then going on to around 620-630 makes more sense, we were always going to have to bat twice on this pitch so couldn't the case be made that we should take those runs first up when scoring is at it's easiest?

I just don't get the merit of early declarations when batting first(and scoring at a very good rate) on flat pitches? all you're doing is making it so you have to score more runs on day 4 when the pitch is likely to be more difficult than on day 2 you also open yourself up to losing the match as the team batting second has a much more realistic chance to match or even better your lower total.

Don't worry about the pitch so much.
Imagine the West Indies at their best. They didn't complain about the pitch or the toss. They dominated for nearly 15 years on every pitch by playing great cricket.
So far in this game we've had chances.

Am I the only one who thinks Ashwin has bowled better than Lyon most of the time? If only he had some support from the other end.

Agree, he has been constantly on target. We've still handled him very well though.

I wonder why Starc was fined and Kohli was even sanctioned for his 'greetings to the batsmen' late in the Aus innings. Neither should have been, but if Starc is punished, so should Kohli.

You are ever so slightly biased, and seem incapable of recognising it. This has been the worst pitch of the summer, regardless of what it does in the next two days, and one of the worst pitches I have ever seen in this country for a Test match.
