It was a pale imitation that got the opposite reaction of the slex buddy stuff. Slex wins the mitb and says the big match deserves the big stage and then matthews goes low.

Troy comes out looks like a fool. She needed to make that decision without the heel talking her into it. Like Ricky look at you, you're scared, well you're going to be scared when at Colosseum there's no games and I take your arm.

Troy came out with the mitb and south talked her out of using it and she said see you at Colosseum. Got troy booed.

Of course it got her booed, they wanted to see the title change tonight!

I think the whole thing tonight was weird, with Jess winning the Key, and having been screwed by Bonza and South - who, incidentally, were having a heel vs heel match against each other that didn't make a lot of sense booking-wise (unless it was leading to something.)

I suspect that, not only were they unhappy because they wanted the title change tonight, but they'd spent the last 20 minutes of South vs Bonza expecting with every fibre of their wrestling knowledge & experience for it to happen. Cherry used the key to join a match in progress last year - did anyone not fully expect that Jess was going to do the same thing?

That's PWA booking though I guess.

TLDR; the issue wasn't with what Jess and Ricky said after the match, it was the booking of everything the hour prior, because it set the end of the show up for that failure.

Cartwright is not misrepresenting the situation at all, the only thing he's wrong about is they don't wrestle on plastic drop sheets but instead jigsaw puzzles or gymnastics mats, not the huge "gotcha" that you think it is as it's still an awful look that drives people away from the sport we love.
Just to contrast this, it worked for Gatoh Move during the pandemic, and they gained a lot of new viewers/popularity online. Also once when their ring broke, Dragon Gate did a show on mats and it worked out for them.

In a sense, it's no different to having the Boiler Room Brawl or DDT Campsite matches etc where the action is not confined to a wrestling ring.

Except it’s an entire show and not a match stipulation, encouraging others to run similar events without a ring basically as simulated bar fights. I don’t get it?

It's all the presentation right.

If say that wrestle rock match was a bar room brawl with that 6 man they are doing. I'm sure everyone would be on board.

Having dmdu style stuff anywhere with cheap gear everyone out of shape etc.

If they said. We are going to run a shoot style show with the biggest beer drinking brawlers to see who the king of the pub is and got it sponsored by a brewing company. Did some fun profiles on each etc. Worked with mcw pcw and renegades to have one person rep each group, call in Hartley Jackson to do picks via zoom etc. You could have a lot of fun with it. They arent that creative. I really like Jordan Sampson, but he should 100% be in BJW working both strong and dm until he gets to the next level.

I'm not too familiar with Gatoh Move to be honest but I have seen the DDT matches and am familiar with Dragon Gate, both those promotions feature in shape men and women who have high quality wrestling gear and look like wrestlers. Also, in Japan a concept like this is much more accepted as opposed to other parts of the world where it is frowned upon.

From the outside looking in the DMDU no ring shows seem to be just them adding a show to their schedule for absolute minimal effort. Kind of a situation where they probably know someone who manages or owns the building but don't want to take the time to draw a crowd or even transport and set up a wrestling ring so they just throw the jigsaw mats on the floor, bring a portable speaker, offer free tickets and do a free show.

What type of audience is this actually attracting? And what sort of wrestling fan would be happy to watch wrestling without anyone running ropes or bumping? Is there a referee?

well if you can do that, stream it on YouTube etc and get fans to donate while covering your setup costs then it's possibly a win.

Sure but as jcartwright771 pointed out who is interested in that? The views for most of these bouts on YouTube are 100-200 people with a couple reaching around 400-500, there isn't any money in that and the donations from fans would surely be minimal or non existent. No running the ropes, no bumps, no flips, just basic chain wrestling and the occasional very basic bump.

Good luck to them, if they can make money off this then that's great but in my opinion I don't see any money being made or anything positive occurring from this except the people on the card getting another match in.

it was good enough for Minoru Suzuki to appear (or do Emi a favour)

Mmm, that might be the case but as I mentioned before this is more accepted in Japan and from what I can see they aren't actually inviting members of the public to attend these events instead they've got two wrestlers competing with students watching, the wrestlers are in shape and are actually putting on a watchable match as well, still not my cup of tea but much better than the DMDU no ring past offerings.

My main concern is that these events are open to the public, if it was a situation in which they were recording these events at a training centre or a dojo or whatever and just uploading them online I wouldn't like it but it'd be less offensive. The thought of people seeing a free pro wrestling event, giving Aussie Wrestling a chance and seeing the likes of Bateman wrestling at a brewery on some jigsaw mats is really concerning.

The ChocoPro shows don’t have fans, the Gatoh Move shows (held in the same location when they aren’t doing small shows with a ring) do have fans.

Oz wrestling super fan Kyle passed away unexpectedly overnight. Even if you’ve never met him, you’d recognise him if you go to local shows.

We weren’t close, we chatted at shows and sometimes exchanged DMs - but I’m strangely shattered. When I first started biting the bullet and going to shows alone, he was one of the first to introduce himself to me. And he was so positive about wrestling.

They do actually. I was tempted to go on the weekend but picked a different show.
