Can we stop talking about the free-kicks and hits and all the other stuff that took the shine off what was another great contest.

Thought our defence was superb in the last quarter after being severely let down by our mids and forwards. Gibson is prone to a stinker from time to time but he's still vitally important to us.
I'd love to see the following stats to give an impression of why we lose to Geelong everytime:
Since 2008:
1. Our last quarter score differences against the Cats
2. Final quarter inside 50s differences
2. Hodge's averages

It feels like every game we've lost to them (barring R1 2009), we've come out stronger than them and put in disgraceful and embarrassing last quarters each time while I can't remember Hodge having a good game since his Norm Smith game.

It seems to be a worrying trend

I have been holding back from posting this but I was filthy on Buddy at the end of the match. HE HAD TO COMPETE - and he didn't. maybe he got pushed, maybe he slipped in which case I am wrong - but to me it looked like he was searching for a free. Maybe it was a free, but he still had to compete harder in that contest. Not saying it was Buddy's fault the hawks lost but in that situation every players has do every single thing they can to influence the contest and Buddy didn't.

He made no attempt to run at Bartel at all. This is just plain wrong. Why would he have for god sake? We had the ball. Buddy was running hard to get back into the forward line. Bartel simply stepped off the mark and bumped a player running past him who wasn't expecting contact.

That is what I saw. Correct decision to award the 50

But he went to ground a bit too easily.....

Cheers. Not surprised at all

In reality "both" players deviated.
Buddy was expecting the bump and played it up for everything he could milk it for. He ran at Bartel as much as Bartel stepped across toward Buddy.

That said, this happens dozens of time a game, Buddy did what any player with a brain would and benefited as many other players do often in matches every weekend. Bartel infringed. Free was paid.

Buddy didn't deviate.

It was an infringement every day of the week.

After watching the replay, there were 4 pivotel moments in that last quarter where we had our chances;

1. Breust missing the lot and kicking it out on the full early on when we were 3 or so goals up and had the momentum from the end of the third quarter.

2. Buddy putting a headlock on the Geelong tackler when he was tackled out of bounds. Should have been a throw in up our end of the ground, but instead resulted in a Geelong free kick and subsequent goal by Johnson.

3. Breust squibbing the contest from the Rioli kick. Watched this multiple times and although the kick wasn't great, the ball was right there in front of young Breust for the taking had he really wanted to go in hard at the contest like young Shiels did earlier on in the game when he ran back with the flight to take that courageous contested chest mark. Still love the Breuster and he's a small-framed, inexperienced player so gets a bit of leeway for mine. Goes down as a learning experience.

4. The obvious push in the back on Buddy at the end that wasn't awarded a free kick.

I'm very proud of the effort our guys put in. Was disappointing not to kick a single point in the last quarter, but with so many injuries and with some of our key players under performing either due to form, fitness, niggling injuries, or a combination of the three, I'm not too surprised and I really believe there's a lot more to take out of this game than just the notion that Geelong simply have the wood over us, mentally or otherwise.

Franklin took possession and ran out. Umpire blew whistle for throw-in. Milburn tackled Franklin forceably to ground, riding his back and began wrestling. Umpire McB ran around and watched. Franklin managed to roll over and get an arm around Milburn. McB immediately blew his whistle for the high tackle.

Never mind he was tackled well after the ball went dead (initial whistle). Never mind Milburn quite literally rode his back into the ground. Never mind Franklin was clearly at a significant disadvantage (with Milburn basically sitting on him) in the wrestle.

No, McB waited until Franklin committed an infringement, and the whistle was instantaneous, almost premeditary.

Compare the way Podsiadly man-handled our defenders without penalty, the free kicks he received, and the treatment of Franklin - two players "interpretations" creating a 4-5 goal difference in a 5 point game.

If not for the injuries, we would have overcome the umpires.
If not for the umpires, we would have overcome the injuries.
If not for the inaccuracy/inability of Bruest in the last, we would have overcome the umpires AND the injuries.

But we couldn't overcome all three.

MAN you said it right brother. And people say we should stop whinging. Its not a fair contest when the rules arent the same for all players. The frees pod got in the first quarter were both of them holding on. Just rubbish. Will be a big win when we beat them as we will be beating the umpires as well.

You are to precious about Renouf. Im telling you and I really dont give a sh.t about wat you think, He (Renouf) adds absolutley F..k all to the HFC. He is a joke. Why the F..k do we rest Bailey in such an important game....?????? Could we not have rested him next week Vs GC??

Bloody hell Clarkson, play any one else but f..ken Renouf. Yes what I am saying is playing Renouf cost us the game. Bailey is worth more than 5 points in our team.

Im bloody over losing to this mob. The umpires were bloody atrocious! They can pay bloody Selwood high tackles left, right and f..ken centre, but Bud is blantenly pushed in the back and its a geel free kick. Bloody joke!

And to top it all off, Rough gone for season. How many more season injuries do we want..? And not to score shit in the last, what the hell is going on. Im guttered.

And last thing, I am dead set sick of hearing Clarkson telling us that Geel are a great side i=and you have to put 4 good qtrs together to beat them.....Oh really sherlock? So the last 5 - 6 times we have not learnt anything.

I struggle to see us make the top 4 now with Rough gone. So disapointed.

Not real nice
