We let Marley go because he can't kick..........
He wasnt a great kick but he could beat an opponent one on one.We let Marley go because he can't kick; Menadue's DEF is 87%, ranked elite. All that said, certainly needs to work on other parts of his game, and wouldn't be playing bar injuries to LMac and Corr. Young's in the same boat with Stephenson
Well, it's both.
Noble's game plan screams of Clarkson's stuff which requires high level footy intelligence and precision disposal.
It doesn't come close to maximizing what we have right now.
It's too hard to say until our preferred defensive unit is in place and more broadly, our preferred 22 on the park.
With Taz and LMacs distribution we will look far, far better as they both take on and execute more complex kicks than our current defenders.
5-6 best 22 players pushing out our bottom 5-6 should see significant improvement, and if it doesn't, it doesn't bode well at all for the game plan v list current list.
Yeah I can’t quite figure it out.
I’m amazed how bad some of the other teams are!
I think we are a hundred miles off the top 10 but within reach of the bottom 8 with better injuries. Although still capable of a belting from a bottoms 8 side if we aren’t 100% on.
our % says it all really - miles off it
We've got guys like Cunners, Ziebell, Goldy and Taz who are in the twilight of their careers. But who are still hugely influential on games.
And six or seven guys who are barely AFL standard. And there are question marks over almost all our youngsters.
I hope you are right, but this is most likely gonna be a long haul for us.
We can only hope we make all the right decisions, which hasn't been a trait in our list management for some time now.
Beyond unacceptableAtley, Menadue, and Ziebell zero tackles, Walker and Young 1 each, lack of pressure in defense is very costly.
Maybe the coaching approach really is based on three things 1/ stick to the process at the expense of everything else 2/ we know things will improve once our better players come back into the side anyway 3/ this is a rebuild expectations are low so we may as well make it an unspoken objective to secure the top draft spot??
I think they're the same personGasos first love is IUB.
Most of what you said I agree with, but the last part was always eventually going to be a given. We need to replenish with top end talent. The "gem in the rough" approach should have ended with Stibbard. We got away with it for a while because we still had champions playing. Now we don't and it's like running out of a good bottle of Merlot, it has to be replaced. The way I see it is the theoretically best game plan even devised will not succeed if it doesn't align with the players who are available to execute it.
Theory doesn't win matches.
A game plan that aligns with the ability of the blokes on the ground is far better than the wishful thinking of an analyst.
A lot of posters here are praising the game plan that North are using at the moment. I bloody hope that in a couple of years we can pull it off. In the meantime, I can't see how these losses are helping to develop the younger generation of players or maintaining the spirit of the older blokes.
Higgins would probably have loved to see some success at North but let's face it, he couldn't see it happening.
There are a few dispirited looking blokes running around at the moment in blue and white stripes.
And an amazing number of supporters champing at the bit for pick number 1. Hoping we finish last. Piss that off as a sign of success.
Hey, if we finish last it will hopefully not be due to tanking for it. I don't get any joy out of losses where we simply weren't good enough but if we're engineering losses then I hope that the parties involved are exposed and eradicated. Most of what you said I agree with, but the last part was always eventually going to be a given. “If I see one bloke walk out of here and getting a pat on the back from people out there for a good effort, I’ll spew up.”In the Saints rooms Ratten is surely feeling a bit like Terry Wallace
Yep, that’s the one“If I see one bloke walk out of here and getting a pat on the back from people out there for a good effort, I’ll spew up.”
Terry is starting to look like something out of the Toxic Avenger slash Freddie Krueger. Looking at him now I would probably spew up anyway.“If I see one bloke walk out of here and getting a pat on the back from people out there for a good effort, I’ll spew up.”
A few players in that vid of Bails need a look in the mirror. Two moments I want to highlight - Bailey's chase of Brad Hill and Tom Powell's smother, both gut running to get there. 100% effort!
Been this way for years.
yeah, but get rid of Mahony; what's the point of gifting a teenager games after he makes 10% of the team's entire tackle countAtley, Menadue, and Ziebell zero tackles, Walker and Young 1 each, lack of pressure in defense is very costly.
He's been serviceable; the kind of bloke you need in that #24-30 range (and you need that cohort, just as much as you need #1-10); problem at the moment is that we have so many of them playing in the ones. LMAC for Menadue, Polec for Young and both the ones and the VFL side take on a different complexionJust on Menadue, he's only 24. That's what, 3-5 years younger than the players we delisted that might have been playing his role?
A project player and mature backup. Right now I wouldn't be signing a contract extension, but other than round one I haven't considered him particularly bad. He's certainly a bit tougher than I was expecting.
