AMATEUR STATUS
16.02.11

New initiatives to preserve the amateur staus of the VAFA competition.
New Amateur Status Rules & Policy

Over the past year, the VAFA Board undertook a review of its rules and procedures relating to the enforcement of amateur status of its players.

This review led to the following:

1. The declaration of an Amnesty period (effective immediately) to close midnight on 30 June 2011, within which time various persons set out in the Amnesty Policy can come forward to the VAFA Integrity Officer and report any breach or possible breach of the conditions of amateur status that may have occurred in seasons 2008, 2009 and 2010 or since.

A copy of the Amnesty Policy and to whom who it applies is contained under Information for Clubs/Amateur Status 2011; (click here). We strongly encourage clubs to read the Amnesty Policy very carefully and consider how it might apply to them.

2. Establishment of an Independent Integrity Division to hear all matters relating to alleged breaches of the rules relating to Amateur Status.

As with the Independent Tribunal, the Independent Integrity Division will be separate from the VAFA Board.

A copy of the VAFA Rules which sets up the Independent Integrity Division is contained under Information for Clubs/Amateur Status 2011; (click here).

3. The appointment of an Integrity Officer, who will investigate allegations of a breach of Amateur Status, and if appropriate, refer an investigated matter to a formal hearing of the Independent Integrity Division.

The VAFA is pleased to announce that Steve Palmer has been appointed as the Integrity Officer for 2011. Steve is a qualified solicitor and an experienced investigator.

What does this mean for clubs?

Under the Amnesty Policy, clubs should contact the Integrity Officer, Steve Palmer, if they believe that their club may have been involved in player payments from the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons or since.

The Amnesty Period will enable clubs to ‘come clean’ to the VAFA. Please note that the purpose of the Amnesty Policy is to focus only on the conduct of clubs from the 2008 season onwards, the rationale being that current club administrators should be aware of matters relating to recent seasons.

Please note that all contact with the Integrity Officer will be treated in the strictest of confidence. Further, any invoking of the Amnesty by a club will be treated confidentially.

Again, we strongly encourage clubs to read the Amnesty Policy very carefully and consider how it might apply to them.

Effective immediately, clubs or anyone involved with the VAFA, may contact the Integrity Officer to ask that he look into allegations of player payments.

The Integrity Officer will then investigate these as he sees fit. While the focus of the Integrity Officer will be on issues pertaining to 2011, persons should feel free to contact the Integrity Officer to raise allegations relating to conduct from the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons.

The establishment of an Independent Integrity Division and the appointment of an Integrity Officer, strengthens the ability of the VAFA to uphold the amateur ethos that is so fundamental to our competition.

Looks like Blacks may have to recruit a few to be the same standard as last year, outs so far are O'Hara and Robbins. Chris Liberatore will also not play this year, has landed a dream job at St Kilda, good on him.

Some unusual rumours floating around of late, not just involving Players but other key members of a footy club.

Fingers crossed not true.

C’mon wombat that is a fairly broad statement. Can you expand just a little? AFL or VAFA club? Player, president, sponsor etc ?

In the immortal word of Austin Powers “throw us a fricken bone here”

Im Excited!!

The tubby men in white are slowly packing up stumps and starting to fade away, as the big bustling footy men are preparing to rip into the season.

The smell of round one is looming in the air, and the reports suggest this season should be a cracker. Forget the Premier grade, the magic and excitement will be in the B Grade this season, with massive local Derbys and huge crowds going at it. Never have the Sharks, Rovers, Caulfield & Beachies been in the same grade. This provides us with more than just the premiership on the line, theres massive pride on the table this season.
Imagine a local Derby Grand Final, the VAFA will be praying for this outcome, huge crowds.
Im tipping another fairly even ladder in B Grade this season, and predict the Beach boys & Skevies to advance to the Premier Grade in 2012.

Its gonna be a massive season, goodluck to all teams, and make sure you pack your togs & goggles, cos its gonna be a wet one.

Bernie boys are flying, more recruits than GC17. All hands on deck for an Old Carey like year - look out!

Really worried bout the social scene at shark park with the cruiser gang lead by the infamous party boy Doug Pritchard recruiting the young boys to have blueberry cruisers.

Man up boys have a beer!!!!!!!!!!

all the best

Really worried about your continual use of this board for pathetic in-jokes that no-one outside a small section of Beaumaris FC would care about.

Man up Baz and set up your own forum on the sharks' website and stop boring us with your stupid postings.

Heard big news this morning whilst jogging the tan, bumped into a mate of mine named Craig Ednie, a footballer well known in local footy, he told me that he and Steve McKee are playing at St Kevin's this year, big pickups. No wonder the St Kevin's boys on here have been low key. I also heard yesterday that St Bernards have Tim Harvey back, should be a great comp this year.
We are trying to get a couple of Port boys back, quite a few Caulfield boys running around down there.

Just spoke to a local bookie who is offering $1.55 for a St.Bernards Premiership this year.

I'll take that as it's over the odds. Should be $1.35.

Signed, sealed and delivered....I'm yours.
