I hear a rumour that will send fear through all of B section, and more importantly, B section backlines

Marcellin may see the return of the big man Dan Cullinan to the line up
surely the former Vic represenatative can do great damage to any defensive in the league....

should put Marcellins hopes of a return to A grade in a good positon

I think I can pour cold water on this one.

I heard he returned from WA and planned on rejoining the Eagles but once he heard Dobson had left he decided to go with him.

Any of you folks interested in taking the cyber-field in a pretend team? :p

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=314342

Regional Leagues Fantasy Footy League?

Seeking interest in players for a Regional Leagues fantasy footy comp.

This is a) not real footy and b) not pick-a-team-of-AFL-players footy. Its even lazier!

All you do is express interest, I'll do the rest via QOOTY, a crappy random aussie rules simulator I created years ago and have been trying to bring up to speed. FAQs here : http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75728

I'll try to collate a league of teams that are representative of the more popular local leagues here, so I need raised hands from the posters. I won't make up any names, I won't allow any sudden new arrivals.

So either post here or PM me if you want your Bigfooty alter-ego registered for a team.

Hopefully we can turn some rivalries into some even more potent partnerships!

I'll probably aim for starting the season, say, end of next week. I MAY have to be an inflexible prick with okaying a team and treating latecomers.

For this season, hopefully the inaugural season of an ongoing league, all we need are 20 players per team. There is already a Fantasy league, more closely based on the AFL clubs, at Bigfooty, here : http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=30 - its into its 7th season and has developed a bit of history! There is also another league at another footy forum site, this year with only 3 teams but had been as strong as 5 clubs in its 3 year tenure.

So get in touch if you're interested. Remember you don't have to do anything apart from dob your Bigfooty nickname in for a spot. Please tell me which club/league of regional footy you would prefer to be aligned with (please state both).

We'll see how we go. If it doesn't happen, ah well, if it happens later than I hope ... I'll still give it a burl.

Onward lads! ...

TBP,
Would swap Caulfield with Ajax. Caulfield lost a few and picked up nought!
Jackas flying and will love the top of the ground conditions, particularly early in the season. Will be had to beat at elsternwick.

Blacks short priced favourite for mine given the pick up of Lacy and the return of Costello, Smith and Shaw.

I think your relegated teams are spot on.

Headline you won't see " Scholly voted as the best bloke in ammo footy"

Headline you will see. " Can Blacks go undefeated?"

see i dont think ajax will be that high at all. i think they are still shattered from the last game of the year that they should have won. OM's could be ones to watch and i think uni blacks got no chance of going undefeated....

Guys just wanted to set things straight I have gone to Heidelberg this year and yes DC is back at Marcellin.
Must now make them very tough with the young kids coming through as well.

injuries galore down at brindisi street. 4 or 5 players came off worse for wear. easily beat whoever they played but didnt like it hard....

Mostly young bodies i hear. Played alot of U/19's from Haileybury.

The other B-Section teams might want to get in early, i suspect in a few years St Bogans might be fairly hard to beat considering the dominance Haileybury has had on school football in recent years.

Is that you Chunk ? Greensborough/Heidelberg, whats the difference ? You're not where you should be. If & when I see the big unit strut his stuff out of the square in round 1 I'll be the 1st to admit I was wrong. My source (B of R) was adamant DC had followed you.

Sausage, have heard the Blacks have regained Bryce Shaw, if so he is a super player, ex State rep. I believe they will be super strong, with maybe a 14 win season coming up. Hows Parko going down there with Riz Sausage?

Brian, do forgive me, I missed your post. As usual, if you look below I have taken the liberty of copying some diatribe from blacks website. I think you will agree there seems to be absolutely NO FAITH in their incumbent senior coach...they have more ASSistants than the rest of the VAFA clubs combined.

David Parkin to take Training

BLACKS REAL COACH and his father David.

parkins.JPG
David Parkin will take Under 19's & Senior training on Monday 26th March. Carlton legend David along with his son & former Blacks Dual Premiership Coach Anthony, are just a couple of the many guest coaches lending their time & expertise throughout the year.

bowden_brothers.JPG

The Bowden brothers (Joel and Patrick, current Richmond players & Kane, past Blacks Premiership coach) are another example, helping out with the Under 19's this year.

David Honeybun back as Blacks Ruck Coach

Former Carlton and Richmond ruckman David Honeybun is returning to an active role with the Blacks as ruck coach. He joins David Parkin, Joel and Patrick Bowden, and current players Judd Lalich and Matt Watson as coaches and players bringing senior AFL experience to the Blacks.
David played at Blacks before his AFL days, which were cut short by a chronic back injury. He has been among the hundreds of past players who have re-involved themselves with the Blacks in the past few years, and it will be tremendous to once again see him stripped for action with our senior and Under 19 ruckmen. His experience will be of great benefit to our younger players in particular.

Interesting one Sausage Roll.

I believe you are incorrect as usual.

The "Incumbent" won 8 or 9 on the trot last year.........Hows that for NO FAITH??

Sausage, why the witch hunt on Riz? Are you a worried Uni Blues person or perhaps a jealous Fitzroy Reds person?

Finally the real stuff is upon us. The dribble that has been written on this thread over the past months can now be replaced by the real happenings on the field.

Here's a preview to this weekends games as i see it.

Selections in bold.....

OEG v MHSOB - Melbourne High begin there year with a tough road trip over the bolte bridge to face Essendon. Old Essendon are coming off a solid year and should account for Melbourne High comfortably and begin the relegation battle for the public school boys.

Old Melbournians v SKOBS - Two former powerhouses of A Grade meet at the plush Junction Oval. SKOBS look like they will struggle for much of the year and with OM's just coming down i think will be too good.

Marcelin v Beaumaris - Percentage booster for Marcelin. Coming down from A grade and playing a side that should be in C Grade will see Beauy straight to the bottom of the ladder and i doubt if they can get off there.

SBMT v Caulfield - Should be quite tight down at Brindisi. Rumours of a few key losses of personall for the Tigers but have solid numbers with 3 senior teams and 2 under 19 teams this year. Can they fill the gaps???? Caulfield will be there or there abouts. Wont be much in it one would suggest.

Uni Blacks v Ajax - Match of the round one would suggest. Can the new Uni Black kids get their season off to a top start? Will the boom recruit "Shrek" be unstoppable for Ajax? All those answers may be answered come 4.30 on Saturday afternoon but i suspect the clash to be a torrid affair. I think the class of Uni Blacks might just topple Ajax, however expect Ajax to be very good this year.

Is there any news from clubs in regards to players missing or what not?

Cant wait to read Tommy Brains first dribbling article of the year.

Jackas had 800 at their 50 year do at Crown on Saturday night. Raised 150K in one night! How many clubs could do that?
Should pay a few bills for a while.
They are very, very confident of going all the way this year.

Should the VAFA chief executive be affiliated with a VAFA club?
It seems our good friend Mr Sholly cant help himself. After recently rewarding an Old Xaverian football club player the prized KPMG job advertised on the VAFA website, it seems Sholly is up to do his dirty tricks again.
Apparently SKOB were over the line in regards to having usage of a quality ground in North Kew. All that the council wanted was the approval of the VAFA so SKOB allegedly requested that Sholly provide a referance for them. Now surely you would think that a person who was employed by St kevin's College for 18 years would be only too happy to oblige, but for some unknown reason, this man who wants to get SKOB off Righetti refused.
When the SKOB hireachy then enquired as too the status of the application, they were informed that the oval had been leased to Old Xaverians Football club on the personal recommendation of, yes you guessed it, one Mr Sholly.
Surely this guy has to go, how he got the job in the first place was highlyt dubious, and this only hightens the fact that he is a C grade administrator.

Good work agian Brian!
You really are the conscience of the vafa!
The biggest joke is how Scholly got the job in the first place, given he was a primary school teacher all his life and up against serious sports adminsitrators who didn't get a look in.

How in the hell did he get the job?

How does the term 'jobs for mates' sound? Apparantley he got the job over season AFL football club General Managers, including a former well respected West Coast Eagle administrator. Perhaps he can hand back his mortgage payments made by SKC over the last 18 years.
Not sure what his reputation will be when he applies for his next admin post.
