Not sure about that. Hasn’t played for a year post knee injury. Out of contract. Dogs had two choices, get a first round pick or send him to draft for nothing.

Reckon it’s the best they could do.
Had no leverage and clearly smith's team weren't advocating for his old team to get a good deal, as sometimes happens.

Andrew 'dodo' Mackie once again chose winning a trade over a working relationship and got what he wanted in a buyer's market

The Bulldogs only ever offered Smith a 2 year contract. They were never turning down pick 17 to take a stand over him. I think there’s a small chance they might have actually done it over a B&F like Dunkley that they were matching other clubs contract offers for. But Brisbane were wedged a little there because they had to match bids and couldn’t threaten the national draft and we had a pick before them in the PSD.

Smith was dirty about being stuck at half forward and put that out in the media. A bit petulant and probably an inflated view of his abilities when you look at who was in front of him, but it’s his career. Connors probably also wasn’t inclined to go into bat for us on this one. That 2 year contract offer would have made his life harder. Those two weren’t doing us a single favour here.

Good luck to Geelong, got away with a steal on this, but crazy to think North effectively paid 8 spots less to get Caleb Daniel. Smiths mental health issues were overblown to try and justify such a low offer. You only have to look at Baileys socials to know that he has rehabbed well, keeps himself in peak fitness and is every chance to be All Australian next season.

His physical condition has never been his issue,

His mental health issues aren't as bad as made out but do impact him and is noticeable when thing aren't going his/teams way

AA is a very big stretch unless its media driven and he has substantially improved his abilities by foot

After this robbery, I do not want to see another Cats supporter in Tiger threads telling us how we pantsed GC or Freo or WC or whoever in our trades.

I dont know how you do it, you absolute Cat burglers

Eventually all these trades Mackie has done is going to come back to bite them. I wouldn't be surprised if next year if SDK leaves that get massive unders.
Care to elaborate? What trades has Mackie done that's going to come back and bite? It's not as if Geelong offered massive overs to Bailey Smith financially.

If SDK leaves next year, it may well be because he's offered a godfather contract that Geelong will not match. That is about the only hypothetical scenario I can see happening, and that has little to do with Mackie.

And, should this scenario happen, Mackie will drive a hard bargain. I have confidence that he'll get value for SDK, even if not the same relative value as Smith, owing to not having the same kind of leverage for an OOC player wanting to leave.

In any case, I'm not really sure why you think the way you do. It sounds more like wishful thinking than any kind of a sound, logical basis for which to arrive at such a conclusion.

Disagree its a stretch, Bailey has always played his best footy in the guts however once the Dogs got Treloar Bevo tried to force him out onto a wing. Geelong will put him back in the middle and provided his knee doesnt give him issue I would expect him to be pushing for AA selection.

That is just absolutely not correct,

His best period was the 2021 finals series where he had 10%/12%/0%/12% CBAs,

His best footy has been and always will be wing half forward where he can use his running capacity and speed to his advantage as he is often caught out of position when on ball

Im keen to see how he actually goes in Geelongs midfield- and is that where he will actually play? I’m definitely not all over his playing style but I struggle to see him as a ball winner and more a running player/ winger. Surely if he’s capable as a full time mid then goin by his early career form the Dogs have completely mismanaged him.. is this the case?
