NOTABLE PLAYERS OUTSIDE TOP 30
-
Josh Worrell (Tall Utility/Vic Country) (Rank: 34)
I personally haven't been too impressed from all the vision I've seen of him, but he has undeniable talent so deserves a mention early on)

-Sam De Koning (Tall Defender/Vic Country) (Rank: 43)
Sam falls pretty low on my list because of some of the quality I've put ahead of him. As a Tall Defender I much prefer Karl Finlay and Dyson Hilder.

-Ryan Byrnes (Inside Midfielder/Vic Metro) (Rank: 48)
I personally think that Ryan has had an alright year but looks a bit vanilla for my liking. A few midfielders later on I'd rather take who I believe have more potential

-Jesse Clark (General Defence/Vic Country) (Rank: 56)
Someone who's gone much higher on my list compared to others, did really well on his opponents in the champs but I think flew under the radar a bit considering he was in the same defence as Lachie Ash, Hayden Young, Brock Smith and Sam De Koning

-Regan Clarke (Outside Midfielder/Western Australia) (Rank: 80)
Regan is more than someone who kicked the winning goal. He tested pretty well at the WA State Combine and has been one of Perth's best players in the WAFL Colts. Someone who I want to see drafted but more than likely won't be

-Ben Middleton (Tall Forward/Western Australia) (Rank: 109)
Ben really impressed me in the WAFL colts for Peel Thunder kicking 30 goals and 21 behinds. I think he's a good value pick late on in the draft who can develop into a strong goal kicking forward.

-Jack Cooley (Inside Midfielder/Western Australia) (Rank: 119)
For Draft Watchers who don't pay much attention to WA, Cooley is an unknown. Got a late invite to the WA State Combine off the back of being named BOG in the WAFL colts Grand Final where he amassed 33 disposals. He's a ball magnet who could become a rookie come November

Never seen Kemp ranked above Anderson, how did you make that decision?
As midfielders I rank Anderson above Kemp, but Kemp's ability to play as a tall forward and even sometimes in defence puts him over Anderson. I think in 5 years times Kemp might be the best of this crop for this exact reason.

i like the call, because i also rate Kemp up there, i also really like your Garcia call as well, i think if both their knees are ok then they could be steals imo.

I really like Garcia and don't see him falling as far as most do. Kid played all of the draft so a team confident in their medical department should 100% take a punt on him post pick 30

Big injury? Sure, but kid has a massive upside that is worth tapping to in the late 2nd round

Phantom Draft: Round 1, Version 1
And with that, another long and boring trade period is in the books

Here is my first edition of my phantom draft!

Some notes
1. I didn't do any live trading YET, if I did, GWS would have Pick 4 and wouldn't be stuck matching a Tom Green bid so early

Pick 1. Matt Rowell (Inside Midfielder/Vic Metro) (Gold Coast)
Pick 2. Noah Anderson (Inside Midfielder/Vic Metro) (Gold Coast)
Pick 3. Hayden Young (General Defence/Vic Country) (Melbourne)
Pick 4. Caleb Serong (Small Forward/Vic Country) (Adelaide)
Pick 5. Tom Green (Inside Midfielder/New South Wales) (GWS) (Matched Bid)
Pick 6. Sam Flanders (General Forward/Vic Country) (Sydney)
Pick 7. Dylan Stephens (Wingman/South Australia) (Fremantle)
Pick 8. Cody Weightman (Small Forward/Vic Country) (Melbourne)
Pick 9. Lachie Ash (General Defence/Vic Country) (Carlton)
Pick 10. Deven Robertson (Inside Midfielder/Western Australia) (Fremantle)
Pick 11. Brodie Kemp (Utility/Vic Country) (Hawthorn)
Pick 12. Will Gould (General Defence/South Australia) (Port Adelaide)
Pick 13. Liam Henry (Small Forward/Western Australia) (Fremantle) (Matched Bid)
Pick 14. Fischer McAsey (Tall Defender/Vic Metro) (Western Bulldogs)
Pick 15. Luke Jackson (Ruckman/Western Australia) (Geelong)
Pick 16. Will Day (General Defence/South Australia) (Gold Coast)
Pick 17. Finn Maginness (Inside Midfielder/Vic Metro) (Hawthorn) (Matched Bid)
Pick 18. Trent Rivers (Utility/Western Australia) (Brisbane)
Pick 19. Sam De Koning (Tall Defender/Vic Country) (Geelong)
Pick 20. Cam Taheny (General Forward/South Australia) (Port Adelaide)
Pick 21. Miles Bergman (Wingman/Vic Metro) (Richmond)

Some thoughts as I begin work on the full phantom draft (I'll release a few more editions probably once a week)
1. I think I went too tall with Geelong, Jackson is a great ruckman but is he the answer for the Cats? I like the De Koning pick so I think that will stay. Would love to know what cats fans think

2. Weightman at 8 feels too high but it makes sense him going here based on Melbourne's needs

3. Didn't expect Carlton to have Pick 9, could potentially be where a bid is placed on Liam Henry?

Dream draft for FREO noted.

Adelaide would quite likely be considering Stephens: what would our move be?

Also, would we live trade after 10?

I wouldn't be surprised if Fremantle will trade back into the draft after the Henry Bid has been completed, especially with the W.A talent available
I don't think they'll let Rivers get away from them either, could surprise everyone @ #10

Not sure about Rivers now that we have Acres. Would personally look for more pace, and prefer Sharp as an option. Of course there are good non WA options too.

Would be happy with that. For me, a draft haul of Stephens, Sharp, Henry and Taylor would provide the run and skills to balance a side that is starting to look a bit slow.

We're not far apart, for me it's Stephens, Rivers, Henry and Sharp I hope the dockers draft in

This is great from a Hawthorn perspective. If Hawk can grab Kemp and Maginness is only bid on at 17ish, most Hawks supporters would be stoked.

Love Kemp's potential, could easily turn out the player of the draft 10 years down the line. Would love him at fremantle, though, after losing Morabito and Apeness to chronic knee injuries (both 1st rd picks), I would be very surprised if fremantle took him, they wouldn't want to jinx themselves.

Updated my Draft Rankings in the OP. Notable winners are Trent Bianco, Cody Weightman, Brock Smith and Karl Finaly. Notable losers include Cooper Stephens, Dyson Hilder and Riley Garcia

Also discussed Regan Clarke and Jack Cooley as other notable players in the bottom of the OP

My Phantom Draft is complete, a few spots I'm still not sure on but here it is!

Obviously pretty inspired by the Twomey Phantom but that's what I get by leaving it to the day of the draft.

Some notable names
-Pick 43, 44 and 45: Flynn Perez, Trey Ruscoe and Jack Mahony; If Richmond managed to come away with this hand come their first picks they are definitive winners in my book. Flynn I rate at 53, Ruscoe I rate at 28 and Mahony I rate at 35. All have very solid upside.

-Pick 52: Jesse Clark; Do Collingwood need another defender? I took the opportunity to give him the spotlight here as I rate him a bit higher than most folks.

-Pick 67: Chad Pearson; The Dockers have been linked to Chad for a while now and for good reason. The kid an amazing kick and could potentially slot into our back 6. One to watch

-Pick 70: Cooper Sharman; Not really a need for the Eagles but if he gets to here he's too good to pass up.

-Pick 73: Dyson Hilder; Someone who's been in my Top 30 at times this year before ending up at 50 on my rankings. Already have Adelaide taking McAsey but why not take the local version?

UNLUCKY/WHO I'D LIKE TO SEE PICKED
-Jai Jackson (Personal Ranking: 42)
-Jarvis Pina (Personal Ranking: 45)
-Zak Pretty (Personal Ranking: 55)
-Tyrone Thorne (Personal Ranking: 61)
-Lachie Stapleton (Personal Ranking: 63)
-Chad Warner (Personal Ranking: 65)
-Ryan Bennell (Personal Ranking: 66)
-Reid Kuller (Personal Ranking: 136)
-Cody Leggett (Personal Ranking: 157)

DAY 1 REVIEW
Gee, odd way to finish the night but there wouldn't be many clubs unhappy (besides maybe Carlton? Seems they traded up for De Koning)

NIGHT 1 WINNERS
-Gold Coast: They were always coming away with the 2 top picks but to get 3 blokes rated in the top 3 is massive. Flanders might just be a huge bargain.

-Fremantle: Obviously biased. Young and Serong were both overrated in my view but the Top 20 of this draft is so good that it's hard to be angry about them. Especially considering neither were considered chances to land here just 2 weeks ago

-Port Adelaide: It's pretty easy to think that Georgiades was a reach, and is someone I didn't rank in my 50, but that was all from a lack of vision and from all reports he's the best tall forward in this draft. First pick tomorrow could be massive

NIGHT 1 LOSERS
-
Carlton: If they chose anyone other than Philp then I would have them at number 1. Kemp is a brilliant selection but Philp seems like a massive reach, considering a speedy midfielder I personally rank better in Jay Rantall is still available. Pretty easy to assume they traded up expecting De Koning

Why would they want De Koning? They have talls coming out there ***.
