Yeah I think if North can continue to win games and/or remain competitive + address the Tarryn Thomas allegations seriously, there is a good chance Ben signs.

All bullshit aside. I think north are treating the TT situation appropriately. His contract adds a big layer of complexity rightly or wrongly. Paying out $1m is a big deal

Carlton probably don't need Ben, given McGovern, Weitering and Young are high quality defensive talls.

Perhaps they're concerned about McGovern's longevity, but if not, I would say they won't chase Ben.

My personal belief is that he wants/wanted to things:

1: to see a positive change in results/outlook for the future - obvious tick

2: confirmation that clarko will be his coach next year

Once the report is released and future coaching issues known, he’ll make his decision. Assuming clarko is still coaching, he’ll sign on.

This has nothing to do with Ben McKay or his contract situation though. Most North fans seem to accept that TT has very likely played his final game for the club. I don't see the need to keep bringing it up on an issue or player that has nothing to do with him.

I'd say with their young up and coming midfield and clarko at the helm, they have already surprised this year but its still a development year as next year will be. They need to go to the draft one more time and be selective with trade ins and keep McKay at all costs. In 2 years time i could see this side very much pushing for finals

Clarkson I strongly suspect wants to build up Norths midfield. Thats still miles off. That pick compensation Ben brings goes a long way towards doing that particularly in the likely event of a Tasmanian side leading to maybe 5 years of compromised drafts. This may be the last uncompromised draft we see for a fair while.
