Berko Bevo vs. the former Muckraker Morris in the Round 1 presser

Was Bevo right in the way he ran the presser

  • Hell yes! Bring back the Biff, Bevo.

  • Yes, but he went a little too far

  • No, but protecting players is key

  • No, totally unacceptable but that is it, move on

  • No, totally unacceptable and needs a sanction

  • I barrack for another club and just want to see the results

  • I am in the media and need my next news story

Just go and abuse us on the general board with the other supporters. Don't come here and bait people with the pile on, on our coach. It's not wanted or needed here, stop being a Tom Morris

You are the ones piling into a journalist for no reason, so no, I would let it go but can’t cop people like that, the point about being a Melbourne supporter he made was just bizarre, everyone has a team they support and every journalist would of reported the story, we aren’t talking about national security secrets…it’s football selection decisions… what a disgrace

Get a life you dumb campaigner.

Spell!!

AFL journos are in the business of creating mentally challenging issues amongst clubs and players.

It’s warranted to be called out on it.

You’re claiming that someone called out for bullying shouldn’t be because it may cause similar concern as it does for their victims.

If you’re a c**t, you should be called out accordingly. End of!!
No I agree, I just think he went a bit too far.

The delivery was clearly not Bevo's finest work but I think it does raise an interesting question concerning integrity of the game when one club is privy to another's tactics (be it team selection or something else) ahead of an upcoming match, when that isn't shared the other way - being a form of information asymmetry.

It may usually be relatively trivial in the scheme of things but I can see why this would be disturbing to clubs when this kind of thing occurs, as per the Talia incident (once bitten twice shy in Bevo's case?).

Clearly Beveridge let his emotions get the better of him in attempting to address it though and the message ultimately gets lost.

Clearly emotions got the better of Bevo...deep down his issue clearly is with the leaker.

His outburst at Morris was about how his public airing of things like leaked team selection was obviously highlighting to him they have a leaker and a problem...he then describes this as causing 'turmoil' and 'killing us', because he and the club hierarchy then have to investigate internally, leading to uncomfortable discussions trying to out the leak and this causes distrust.

He said something about names being mentioned, indicating people have been accused of being the leaker, probably incorrectly, and I can see how that would lead to high emotions and some very upset staff - Bevo again mentioned people's livelihoods and mental health.

In the end, all these issues are due to the Bulldogs staffer leaking the info, so it's really poor form from them. I wonder why they are doing this to the club they work at...
Yep I agree with you, and if you read between the lines that’s clearly what Bevo was getting at by talking about the detriment it’s doing to the club, but I think he went about it completely the wrong way. No point going after a journo so viciously who was basically just doing his job, yes we need to find the leak but getting the media completely offside isn’t going to help.
But thanks for pointing out what he meant.

If anyone sees/follows my posts on here - I am a big media hater. Can’t stand journalists and their click bait/BS articles. But I’m sorry, tonight Luke overstepped.

That’s not suggesting Morris is in the complete clear, but Luke should have gone about it differently, in a way that doesn’t negatively impact the football club after a loss. I’d rather him have ripped shreds off him out the back or in the car park. Not on live TV.

I think the club needs to work the phones with the other clubs. There needs to be a proper code of ethics for AFL Journalisim. We have seen the impact from one journalist who targeted Tom Boyd for years, successful in helping create mental health issues including anxiety and panic attack from his relentless attacks.

The AFL likes to sell itself as progressive and able to influence positive change around a number of social issues, but turns a blind eye to bullying, lies, slander and targeting of individuals by its own media. Not to mention the number of ex AFL commentators barracking for their own clubs in a unprofessional biased way.

"he's just doing his job".... That's a cop out. The dude muck racked a young fella who had to take time away from his work because of mental health concerns.

The spray was in relation to more than team selection.

pity your club is unsettled by merely stepping onto the field.
If I was a Dogs supporter I would be ropable after tonight's capitulation against a side whose backline was decimated .... and then to see the coach lose the plot and spit the dummy and storm out of a presser ...... and its only Rd 1 ....... I would be asking questions

Unfortunately for you, you support the saints and we beat you by 111 points last time. Maybe you should be ropable about that instead?

Should be more worried about your own club

Time for Bev to go full Tyrion Lannister and sell a bunch of leaks in different directions. Then we can smoke the rat out. ...
We have a bit of a double standard ourselves on leaking of team selections.

We've been quite happy for some ITK posters to give some pretty blunt hints about who's in and who's out in previous years. Some may say that leaking it to a friendly BF board is quite different and pretty harmless ... but we've seen in the past that's where some of these journos get their material.

Why is it not a bigger story that the Bulldogs have someone in the inner sanctum leaking incredibly important information to the press and potentially opposition clubs? Who cares about Morris, that's the huge story.

Hope the rat gets caught and publicly outed, pretty disgraceful behaviour to be leaking inner-sanctum stuff to the media.
