Berko Bevo vs. the former Muckraker Morris in the Round 1 presser

Was Bevo right in the way he ran the presser

  • Hell yes! Bring back the Biff, Bevo.

  • Yes, but he went a little too far

  • No, but protecting players is key

  • No, totally unacceptable but that is it, move on

  • No, totally unacceptable and needs a sanction

  • I barrack for another club and just want to see the results

  • I am in the media and need my next news story

Surely this goes beyond just Lachie Hunter. There must be a fair bit more than just the events of the past 48 hours involved.

Selective reporting is probably a major factor. Jake Lever in doubt then not playing occured within about 30 mins and at the last moment. Surely it would have been a large story that the AA CHB was in doubt yet that wasn't reported on.

I didn't think being called a 'muckraker' would be insulting. Perhaps I'm wrong, but if I was a journalist and someone referred to me as a 'muckraker', I'd probably laugh and respond, 'Out of all the things you could have called me, you go with that?"

I like this from Bevo. Should give this stain the Russ Westbrook treatment at any future press conferences he shows up to.

A self inflicted psychodrama.
Hopefully the Club and Bevo get on the front foot this morning and apologize asap. There is nothing to be gained from allowing this to rumble on.

As an opposition supporter, I have always admired the way Bevo has his players’ backs and the genuine care and respect within your club. It’s that attitude that has taken you to two GFs in five years.

I think his attacks on Morris last night were well intentioned but very poorly executed. Morris is a grub journo and I don’t doubt that other senior coaches feel the same way Bevo does about him.

However, Bevo has now made this the big story from the night. There will be media hounding him when he arrives at the club today, the players will be asked about it, he and/or the club will issue a public apology and there will be speculation about what type of sanction he will should receive (which I’m sure will be a fine).

It’s just a distraction you don’t need ahead of a game next week which I suspect won’t be a walkover.

Firstly I can’t stand Morris he smirks as he reports stories like he is gleefully enjoying degrading people when he breaks negative stories.

Beveridge went the wrong way about it. He has a right to be pissed that Morris never sought a comment from the club before going to air with the story. If beveridge felt Morris went the wrong way about it then refuse to answer any of his questions and tell his employer that if they want their questions answered send someone else.

The bigger issue here that beveridge needs to address are the leaks that have been coming out of the club for years. It’s been happening more than the media have caught on, the amount of leaks that we get in our forum.

I really don’t mind what Bevo did here, all these journalists go unopposed and allowed to carry on running their shit stories. I don’t think this is embarrassing for the club, it’s embarrassing on Bevo for sure but this doesn’t do anything to the bulldogs.

It must be so frustrating to plan for a game and pick a 22 and have something that is meant to be private leaked to the media. No matter how big the leak is it’s still frustrating. Tom Morris has done this countless times to Bevo and the bulldogs.

He definitely went too far and this just looks way worse for him than anyone else. The media is going to protect Tom Morris. But bevo is absolutely right that he is literally just gutter journalism. Nice to see a grub like him get challenged. At the very least it’s distracted everyone from the subpar performance we put in.

Warning to all reporters out there.

Don't poke the Bear-vo.

Seriously the afl should thank us for creating some controversy in what has been a typically lacklustre build up to the season.

The afl could not market themselves out of a wet paper bag.

What, you weren't excited by all the talk about a potential twilight Granny, or the new scoreboards at Marvel?

Whether you agree or not Bevo can’t back down now, I want him going after Journo’s every week now, win or lose.

When he finishes up as our coach, I want to see a weekly TV show where Bevo, Mick Malthouse and Ross Lyon ruthlessly dissect the work of AFL journos.

Thank you Bevo for giving me an opportunity to assess folks reactions and establish that there are quite a lot of absolute hand wringers amongst us.

Tony Armstrong victim blaming Bevo on ABC mornings!!!! Then he (Armstrong) says he's a friend of Morris and that he's only doing his job!!!! Talk about agendas!!!!! First time ABC has ever aligned themselves with FOX.:mad::mad: Bring back Michael Rowland!!

haha! I agree with the last point. They are on the full PC bandwagon now and want to bleach the whole organisation of any personality or conflict. Supercars tried this and have started to realise no one wants to watch a bunch of sanitised and managed drivers kiss each others ass after races. AFL house has no balls. That said if they are savvy they will give Bevo a big slap on the wrist....this will infuriate both sides even more and create a much bigger marketable firestorm.

Good time to remember this haha
Good little reminder of what Morris is.
He’s got history of being involved in getting secret information out of clubs.
Bevo should have batted Morris’ question away with a straight faced comment about fixing the leaks in the club and leave it at that. When asked again just say “the answer to your question Tom is that we need to find the person leaking information to you and stop it. How about you tell me who the leak is and save us the trouble of a witch hunt because at the end of the day when we find them you will be implicit in them losing their job”
Bevo got to aggressive towards TM and that never looks good. It shows a lack of control.

Morris is scuttlebutting team selections before the team is out & he's continued questioning Bevo in the presser. Piss off back to your own board troll.

Mate its a genuine question....Morris would do the same to any team as would all journo's, but someone is leaking internally at Footscray which is of primary concern id have thought....im not sure how then WB fans can call Bevo a 'victim' except as a victim of internal undermining and leaking....

Whole things funny to me but Bevs off his rocker with this take. Journo was doing his job. Does he really think Morris was muckraking to get his side an advantage? Absolutely no chance

Bevo most likely doing the old coach's trick of create a controversy about yourself to take the heat off your players imo.
