Surprised by how many people are leaving XON out. Showed some really good signs towards the end of last season and needs to keep developing at AFL level.

I’d be happy with this:

Hurn Barrass Hough
Yeo McGovern Duggan
Chesser Kelly Sheed
Shuey Darling Cripps
Ryan Allen Williams
Naitanui Culley O’Neill
Hewett Ginbey Jones Hunt

Team revision 1.2

Shannon Hurn, Tom Barrass, Tom Cole

Rhett Bazzo, Jeremy McGovern, Elliot Yeo

Brady Hough, Jai Culley , Jayden Hunt

Jaimaine Jones, Oscar Allen, Luke Shuey

Liam Ryan, Jack Darling, Jamie Cripps

Nic Naitanui, Tim Kelly, Elijah Hewett

Reuben Ginbey, Xavier O'Neill, Callum Jamieson, Campbell Chesser

*Duggan to start WAFL unless burns up the track pre-season.

*Gaff start WAFL

*I (still) couldn't fit Sheed in the starting side.

This team is skilled, fast and versatile.

Something like that -
Hurn Barrass Cole
Duggan McGovern Hough
Chesser Kelly Sheed
Cripps Darling Shuey
Jones Allen Ryan
Natanui Kelly Culley
I: Yeo (M) Ginbey(M) Williams (R) Hunt (B/M)
Sub: West
Gaff (out) - wanting a different dynamic!)

Duggan Barrass Hurn
Hunt McGovern Yeo
Hough Sheed Gaff
Shuey Darling Hewett
Ryan Allen Cripps

Naitanui Culley Kelly

Cole/Bazzo (depending on whether we play tall or small), Jones, Williams/Jamieson, O'Neill
Sub: Clark/West

Chesser to find his feet in the WAFL, same with Ginbey. Would love for them to work their way into the team reasonably quickly. I think Waterman needs to prove he deserves a spot, his form is too patchy to be a Round 1 walk-up. Hard to see Hunt not starting on half-back, we obviously identified his experience and speed as a need, think him and Yeo could form a deadly duo off half-back. I think the 6 mids I'd like to see going through there would be TK, Culley and Sheed to start, with Shuey and Hewett rotating off half-forward, and XON on the bench as the 6th rotation. Clark/West and the rest would be next in line.

B: Hurn - Barrass - Cole
HB: Duggan - McGovern - Hunt
C: Gaff - Sheed - Yeo
HF: Jones - Darling - Cripps
F: Ryan - Allen - Petrevski-Seton
R: Naitanui - Kelly -Shuey
INT: West - Culley - B.Williams - Waterman.

Credits in the bank reign supreme.

Apologies if this is already a thread, but I couldn't find one so * it. Let's have a crack at what our round 1 side is going to look like.

AFL side:

Hurn - Barrass - Cole
Hunt - McGovern - Duggan
Chesser - Yeo - Gaff
Hough - Allen - Cripps
Ryan - Darling - Williams

Naitanui - Shuey - Kelly
Sheed - Bazzo - Petrucelle - Culley

Emerg: Jones - H. Edwards - L. Edwards - Jamieson

Beagles round 1:

Witherden - Hedwards - Jones
Foley - Rotham - ?
L. Edwards - Clark - ?
SPS - Waterman - Winder(?)
? - J. Williams - ?

Jamieson - O'Neill - West

  • With the recruitment of Hunt and O'Brien's suggestion that his acquisition helps free up players into other roles, I'm going to assume the intention is for Yeo to play midfield.
  • I'll start Shuey in the midfield although I'm sure we will see him move back and around as the games and rounds progress.
  • With Barrass and Gov reunited I think Bazzo wins the race for third tall as he offers a bit more rebound than Edwards.
  • Hough to play mostly on the wing and potentially as a high half forward where he has played plenty prior to being drafted.
  • Obviously this is being done prior to drafts but I suspect we may see a Hewett/Ginbey/Philippou in line for an early debut if we pick them.
  • The re-introduction of Cole along with Hunt squeezes out the unlucky Jamaine Jones.
  • Looking at the obvious gaps forward of centre in that Beagles side we should probably expect to be drafting a natural forward in this year's draft, and this may possibly be why we haven't seen Winder delisted (yet).
  • That WAFL side looks far more competitive if we don't have a ludicrous injury run this year.
  • I've probably forgotten someone obvious.
I think Waterman plays ahead of hough or Williams, he improved heaps last season. I reckon JJ ahead of cole too

Waterman isn’t competing with Hough or Williams for spots though.

Sheed gets picked before any of the new recruits, let’s be real here.

And deservedly so.

Yep, plenty forget pretty quickly.

From 2019-2021 (writing off his 2022) he averaged 10+ contested possessions per game and 4+ clearances.

Both areas we have struggled in for a long time and he was one of the leaders. We missed him in 2022.

Do I hope the younger brigade push him even further to an outside role, yes absolutely, but that isn't likely for 2023 - maybe 2024/2025.

  • Waterman probably the only one at the moment that could come out due to being injured, Hewitt to take his place onfield and Ginbey come in.
  • Couldn't find a place for Hunt, so made him the sub.
  • WAFL side looks a lot stronger than previous years.

Any news on Luke edwards

Is there any news on Luke Edwards and how he is travelling?

Any news on Luke edwards

LEdwards - tbh, I’ve had enough trouble simply confirming his existence let alone worry about how he’s been training. Sat out last season with OP and I think he’s still building back from that

I totally agree with Sumich WCE held onto way to many older guys. Should have been another 5 delistings as a minimum
