it's funny, I usually get angry during games when we lose, up to last week v dogs, just angry,
I sat there Friday night quietly drinking realising no point getting angry if we a re just not good enough anymore
But we are...just a few dodgy ump calls agin us...stopped our runs...doing ok when we consider the suspensions and injuries and youngsters playing...
Got to realize we are in a sneaky rebuild mode whilst bluffing our way to this year's Finals...

So with Gawn likely back it's going to be interesting how we move the ball. We will get smashed at the clearances obviously, but bringing it out of defence will be interesting. Pretty much can't kick long at all with Gawn, May, Lever to dominate the air. Just gonna have to run and gun with Rioli, Short, Hugo and Baker. They will make plenty of mistakes but will just have to keep going. Last year against them we just slowed the game down to a crawl and pretty much conceded the game even in the last quarter, we never attacked them.

Jack will struggle this week, nearly given up on Dusty having a big game. Need far better games from Grimes, Vlas, Bolton, Prestia. We've struggled to move the ball against them of late, I just hope we have a go and don't end with a really low inside 50 count. % doesn't matter with our draw.
See which side Max is going and tell Miller to b-line it to the other side, no way Max keeps up with Miller.
Or tell Miller to sit in behind Max all game and jump into his back as often as he can.
Can't let him sit behind play, have to play him smart or physical.

And as soon as Broad and Brown are available I'd be removing Vlastuin and Grimes as well. Clearly being co-captain has affected Grimes on field as his form has nosedived as soon as he was appointed.

Vlastuin is close to our worst player right now.
Might have to change my Avatar

All of our supposed leaders and experienced guys are being ineffective IMO - leaves the younger brigade floundering.
Nank - out
Grimes - struggling
Jack - was better on Friday but finding it harder to lift
Cotch - wants to impact but no longer can
Lynch - out
Vlastuin - very disappointing
Short - out
Dusty - limited impact from deep in the forward line
Dion - out of form and struggling to gel with the GWS fella's
Broady - out

That's a lot of experienced premiership winners that have all dropped off this year - no surprise we look like shite - sadly....

Enjoy the ride fellow tigers! 2025 onwards things get interesting again for us.
we have very few in the prime age group and the ones we have are already premiership players and may not have that hunger.....!
TT & Hopper will drive the next group of young talent from 2025 onwards.
2023 & 24 will be painful while the kids learn the craft, get bigger and align to the game plan

I personally was expecting a strong 2023 but the first few rounds have been disappointing and injuries haven't helped the cause.

We could still end up playing in september which would be a very good result considering how the list is rebuilding on the run

Hi all, just letting you know we've started a banter thread on the Melbourne board you're welcome to come and join.

Cheers

Not a bad side but I’d be radical. We are struggling with F50 pressure so wouldn’t drop MRJ just yet. But…… if Short is fit and raring to go, I’d do as you have and play him HBF, the other flanker being Baker.
I know he’s been in ripping form at half back but why not play both Rioli‘s as small forwards for at least a quarter or so and see how it goes?
If it’s not working, shift Dan back. Just think it’s worth a try at this point as sides seem to be just walking it out of our forward half and we’ve been beyond terrible at roving to marking contests, something Dan was very very good at when he played as a forward.
Just a thought.

JR8 is after Richo's 800 career goals, only needs 37 or something to do it tis season Fair chance with Lynch out for the next 3 months
Well if we ain't playing in Grand finals may as well get some individual targets.
I rate 300 games..

Yeah that'd be cool. Would certainly shock the dees coaches.

I like that idea

Out: Cotch, Riewoldt, Vlastuin
In: Bauer, Ross, Banks

Resting Cotch and Riewoldt with the intention of keeping them fit for the games to follow. Give Short another week so he is fully fit. Vlastuin dropped to find some damn form in the VFL.

Two debutants + Ross + the remainder of youngsters can start fighting it out to keep their spot. Who knows, maybe they pull off a miracle.

Round 7 we welcome back Broad and Short, along with Riewoldt, Vlastuin and Cotch (possibly as sub)
Round 8 Graham possibly returns but only if Ross is out of the side, feel we can’t play both.

After that it is really only Nank and Lynch out of the best 22 so unless Soldo is fit and firing before Nank, we stick with the group we have.

Finish round 8 with 3 wins
Then try to find minimum 4 wins between round 9-14
Have a bye
Need to beat at least one of Sydney or Brisbane
Flog west coast
Bring back Lynch and go undefeated and possibly scrape into the 4.

The good news is 3 other finalists from 2022 have also dropped 3 games, 3 have dropped 2 and only Collingwood have dropped 1. St Kilda, Carlton, Essendon and Adelaide all seem likely to drop more than 6 games.

Well you just have to bounce the Ball. Mansell ran too far a couple of years ago
Plenty don't. I honestly think some players forget you still have to bounce the ball when running it out of the goal square.

Based on dimmas presser we are going to get a response, but so are the dees and they have a full list and are a better side at the moment, not much of a chance this week

Dont think Gawn will play they have a 5 day turnaround. Play again Saturday night
Its a marquee match being anzac eve and if the choice is between richmond anzac eve or north the following, im pretty sure the dees and gawn will pick the anzac eve game. Gawn will play imo

Agree but I think it’s deeper. Been a problem for over 2 years. I reckon none of those (aside from GWS boys) are better than where they were at in 2020. Probably 7 are worse now. I reckon only Rioli is a better player now out of the 2020 premiership year. Being generous, Maybe Baker, short, Pickett, Balta, Bolton, Broad and McIntosh about the same. That’s a lot of improvement to come from young guys to make up for the ones who are worse.

So it’s been a problem since 2020
