they stack up because Danger was with us only really 6 years, took Smart a few more to match Danger's individual accolades.

two All-Australian selections in his first 3 years of football is pretty darn impressive is it not? Two premierships in his first 7. Danger never achieved that.

My argument for body of work was centred around unfairly penalising McGuiness because the Crows didn't exist. That seemed absurd and still does.

Smart was a very good player, among our all time best, but he was never elite

I would rate Dangerfield's four elite years and three good years ahead of Smart overall.

He doesn't do enough overall to get the top 5 spots off guys like McLeod, Ricciuto etc but he would be in my top 10

Smart was elite and easily in the top bracket of players in the competition during his prime.

Smart was 22 when playing his first season, Danger a kid finishing school. Smart definitely one of our all time greats, but he's a level below Danger, but they match up closely due to Danger having about half the amount of time to achieve with us.

Smart was a great, but not generational, player.
Dreaming if you think Smart is anywhere near Danger.
Even if you look at career average vs only time at crows --> Dangerfield is better.
If you take into account their post-Crows career --> Smart could be approaching a net negative valuation.

Lol, what?

Smart could play anywhere on the opposition's best players.

Played midfield v Kouta in his prime.

Held his own against the best key forwards - Ablett, Dunstall, etc.

Played as a key goal kicking forward, including in finals.

Smart was a gun & amongst our top-10 of all time.

Shit administrator though.

I think what we are seeing is that time and generational divide diminishes smarts career while at the same time people think the Danger we saw at Geelong was the Danger we had at the crows.

Most people commenting against Smart on here probably never saw Smart play. or if they did it wasn't 90s Smart. But nearly everyone saw Danger in his prime at Geelong and remember some good years at the Crows. Thompson was also the better Midfielder at the Crows during that time, however the 14/15 seasons Thompson was beginning his decline and Danger over took him. But never really joined the top 5 players in the comp until he hit Geelong.

All I know is I watched Smart play all through the 90s and the dude was in the top 5 players at the Crows without doubt. We are talking squads that had Ricciuto, McLeod, Darren Jarman, Andrew Jarman, McGuiness, McDermott, Modra, Goodwin and Edwards etc. Not sure Danger had such competition at the Crows during his time.

Now this is tough. Smart was a gun! He took it to a new level when he lost his curly locks. I remember he could be having an average day and then just turn it on. Danger is a once in a generation type midfielder. Explosive and tough. As good as Danger is, and he is extremely good, his skills aren’t as sharp as Smarts. Danger lets himself down in his kicking to a man on the run especially when he’s in “bulldozer” mode. Smart had a natural footy brain. He was cool under pressure and will be remembered as one of our best ever players.

I think I’ve just talked myself into voting Smart. Lock it in!

Sad Michael J Fox GIF

Having to choose between Jarman and Tex later.

McLeod, yes but for a moment appreciate the fact Scott Thompson’s holds some ridiculous V/AFL all-time stats from his career… think he’s top 30 for possessions , top 20 tackles, top 20 inside 50s, top 20 clearances & 29th overall for Brownlow votes, ahead of McLeod & Roo.

Dangerfield probably robs him of the 2012 Brownlow too, easy pushing for top 10 crows of all time.
