This is a tough one
I’m leaning the same way.I'm going for Smart. Was an outstanding player for us for a very long time and importantly, never walked out on the club. Its hard to genuinely respect Dangerfield's work at the Crows since as soon as he left his game was even better at Geelong.
The hole that eight years later remains in our midfield highlights how special Danger was. Danger for me.

If we're going on who was the best player, so ignoring the emotional element around his departure, Dangerfield's body of work is right up there with the best for our club
"Reasonably good" lol. He was a top 2 or 3 player in the competition during those years.4 reasonably good years compared to 10+ star studded years from McLeod, Edwards, Goodwin, Riccuito...you're dreaming. lol

He was elite by the genuine definition of elite. A massive loss when he departed.
I happily admit he was our best midfielder and by the time he left he had begin to climb into that elite top brack of the competition. But its not something we had his whole career with us which is what I am saying. He probably only played two years at that pure elite level. Thats not a huge body of work in comparison to our top 10 players of all time who clocked in well over 10 years of elite football. Which includes Smart.
I’ve forgotten some of dangers years here then, my memories are him taking a few years to even get to 20 disposals regularly and being tagged by Bernie.Smart was a very good player, among our all time best, but he was never elite
I would rate Dangerfield's four elite years and three good years ahead of Smart overall.
He doesn't do enough overall to get the top 5 spots off guys like McLeod, Ricciuto etc but he would be in my top 10

Was not expecting Smarts individual accolades to stack up so well against Danger’sPatrick Dangerfield

McGuiness. Edwards was a sensational player but McGuiness was far and away a genuine star of the competition. A premier goal kicking midfielder who led us in the early years. The votes show how many people never watched McGuiness and were relying on his post footy reputation.
Also McGuiness 2nd in 1991, 1992 and 1994 B & F was in a side that had the whose who of South Australian Football. So for 4 straight seasons he was easily regarded as a top 2 player at the Crows.

In fact, probably surpasses him
Danger obviously the better player over his career but that was due to what he did at Geelong
For their times at Adelaide, Smart gets it for me
Smarts 1993 Season one of the best ive seen.Smart was a very good player, among our all time best, but he was never elite
