Love Tex but do people think that he (or anyone else) could do what Jarman did on the biggest stage in 1997 and 1998?
Which is our raison d'etre after all
Yes, playing a key role in our 2 flags gives Jars the slight edge over Tex.Love Tex but jars won us two grand finals. We also don’t make it in 97 without his last qtr prelim
I am going DJ. I have never seen someone continuously make his opponents look like fools than DJ. Easily the most skilfull player to ever grace the Australian Football landscape on both feet. However, tex is not disgraced in this area either. This is how I'd separate them. DJ was the epitome of a big game player. When the moment called for it, he produced. He didn't do this just once either. I'd say every big game we played. So much so it became a regular expectation during 1996,1997 and 1998. Tex on the other hand was your regular star player. On his day he'd be sublime. But when the moment calls for it, for a fair chunk of his career he couldn't beat his defender.
I do understand the body of work for the Crows though lands in Tex lap. So I can't excuse Tex for winning this one. But Dj is a top 5 crow of all time with just a small body of work. But so is Tex. McLeod, Riccuito, Goodwin, Tex, Jarman, Modra. None of those names look out place amongst our greats.
I remember in the lead up to the 97 GF, the talk was that Jarman wouldn’t perform because he didn’t step up in the big moments.I don’t think the bolded is true
Before this year, it was an easy choice5 goals in the last quarter to win a GF vs whatever the hell that was in 2017.
Easy choice IMO.
