Player Watch Best young Key Forwards -Curnow,Hipwood,Naughton,McKay, King Brothers

Yet again you twist the truth. Naughton is 7 months older. And has played 40 odd games which includes 18 in defence in his first year, he started as a forward at the same time as King. Development is also not linear.
You may have just written this poorly, but Naughton has played over 80 games.

Naughton’s field kicking is good and getting better.

When McKay can’t snap or bomb it from 50 his set shot technique is about as bad as Naughton’s and mentally looks worse. Naughton will get better because he doesn’t fear the moment, he always wants the next shot.
Happy to disagree, but McKay goes at 90% with his snaps and yeah his drop puts can be shaky but his field kicking and action are much much better. Unfortunately Naughton just has no fluency in his kicking which means his kicking on the run is well below that of others.

Id like to say he'll improve and im sure he will a bit, but when ur kicking motion is that ugly generally it's sticking with you for good

I must say Charlie Curnow is the best young forward since Coleman.

Buddy also says 'I am a big kid'.

It’s a shame Ben king is missing the whole season.

The way gold costs have been playing it would really suit the way ben plays. Plenty of room to lead into.

If Curnow gets injured again, he should be able to milk the BigFooty definition of 'young' up to the age of 29.
At 30, we need to draw the line, regardless.

I'm wondering whether a 26 year old rookie can qualify as young?

Kicked 20 goals from 12 games, every time he's had a injury free run he's averaged just under 2 goals a game.
So had he played a full season would have kicked at least 30. Pretty good for a 20 year old which he was at the time. I stand firm on him being underrated. If he starts showing consistency every week the opinions will turn.

So... Mitch Lewis yet ? 15.6 from 5 games.

And he is 3 years younger than Curnow.

He’s been brilliant this season but looked incredible in 2019…he’s 2020 and 2021 were terrible…it was most probably down to hub life and a bad shoulder injury…he looks the goods now and seems to be playing with huge confidence…helps having a fit Gunston there..an absolute draft steal with a pick in the 70’s! Hopefully Jeka or Callow can come on and play second fiddle.

Hes been pretty good, still questionable given who he's been up against but had a very solid season so far. The next few weeks will be telling as his opponents are probably two of the tougher match ups for a KPF. But a good season so far none the less

He kicked 3 goals against St Kilda who are top 4 and 3 goals against Geelong who are top 8.

Your lot have kicked most of their goals against Port and us.

Huge test over the next 5 weeks…he will cop the following:

  • tom mccartin
  • Steven May
  • Dylan grimes
  • Harris Andrews

If he can kick 10+ goals that would be a great result.

Not disputing that. Its more that Lewis is yet to prove his worth against quality defenders. North first up, An Aliir-less Port, Lewis Young for the Blues as Gunston was guarded by Weitering, Dougal Howard and now Sam Dekoning. Out of all those teams he hasnt faced the real top end Defenders, which is no fault of his own... thats just the fixture and some injury lotto.

As Bradkli mentions, the next 4 opponents are genuine top liners and match ups which are difficult for any forward - we'll likely get a better idea of how big the leap Lewis has taken this year more than we have over the last 5 weeks.

I love how he's tracking though and at very worst he may end up a Josh Jenkins type who although not elite, was still a damn handy full forward. But if he shows continued improvement and performs vs the top grade defenders I'll enjoy watching and many onlookers doubts will likely be allevited.

The best forwards have help.

Ie Curnow, McKay and De Koning are a strong combo.

A Mitch Lewis is good, but doesn't get any help, so gets the best defender.

The Saints should give a bit of love to Tim Membrey, he helps King a lot.

Whatever you think of Hipwood, Big Joe D and McStay will take heat off him.

This isn't the 90s, Key Forwards don't match up one on one. He's taking strong marks and kicking goals against opposition defences.

I see Steven May blanket his direct match up just about every week. Weitering and Andrews the same. Others may come in 3rd man up here and there but one on ones are still very much a part of modern footy. Either way in the next 3-4 weeks I think it will be easier to judge Lewis' development.

For the same reason but to a much lesser extent, I dont pay any attention to the North fans trying to pump up Larkey, he kicked half his goals on a WAFL ruckman. Lewis has done it against better defenders than Larkey, but still not the top liners. Lewis is tracking wonderfully though, especially for a pick 70.

Mackay was on Frost who BF claims is terrible. And Richmond dont have any defenders, do they ?
