I think this year looks a good year for us to be very active in the market. Treloar is probably a reach for us, but players like Yarran, Zorko & Motlop are very realistic. I'd even be interested in Adcock - Quality person, a former captain who would add some leadership after Newman & even Foley moving on. Also another small defender which is something we could do with. Even if he is not a regular senior player, having someone like him competition week in, week out on the track and in the VFL side would be very valuable.

We are going to be, for the first time in 30 odd years, a genuine "It" club for a lot of players who are willing to play under market value for success and a mentor role - we should exploit the **** out of that like the Hawks have with getting bargains

1st and a player and their 2nd back would good.

1st and Griffo for Aish and their 2nd
Brisbanes 2nd for Yarran

We should keep Astbury for backup in the back line.

Would love to see us keeping our first but cant see it happening.

Any junk from Essendon interest us if we are able to lock Aish and Yarran early?

That makes sense considering our 1st will only be a couple of picks up from their 2nd ;).

I'd chase Aaron Hall if Gold Coast let him go via FA or preseason. Also, worth looking at Kreuzer or Leuenburger.

So conflicted am I about us recruiting Yarran I spent 2 hours at work today working out the pros and cons. In the end it was a 50/50 split. Then it dawned on me - worse case/best case scenario was the only way to decide in my mind.
Worse case- He wallows in the 2's for the next 3-4 years is bagged every week in peoples VFL write ups, becoming the next Tambling
Best case - We get that player with speed and X-factor that gives us what we are missing at the moment and dare I dream the ultimate success.
In the end scenario 2 won it for me-Get him I say.

Yarran is definitely worth the risk, but only for the right price & he should not be guaranteed anything when he comes here, except a fair chance. If he meets our standards and hits his KPI's, he will get a game and be supported and part of something really exciting.

Effectively a pick between 26 - 35 is his value. He was an early pick who has disappointed. Bad attitude, playing in the Magoo's for a stinker of a club - any talk of him being a first rounder or even worth 2 second rounders is us reaching on his potential. Carlton have done nothing at all to maintain any sort of value in him - so we should play hard ball.

He has pretty much been pushed out of the club & if we get him to verbally commit to us, we can screw them on the deal.

Just been given the arse.

I know, thats why i'd be interested.

When going for a flag, you can never have too many leaders. Losing Newman does hurt us & lets not get ahead of ourselves with overrating the leadership at this club - is has DEFINITELY been our biggest issue for 30 odd years & still is our most susceptible quality between us and the ultimate success

Article mentions Zorko and Berger requesting a trade an maybe even Redden.

Question is if were to do a trade who brings more value to RFC and who would we want RFC to.target?

Aish
Redden
Zorko

All players fill a need however if we get Yarran its out of Aish and Redden for me.

We could really go hard this offseason, and I think we will given its Hardwicks last year of his contract.

Yarran
Aish
Adcock
Leuenburger
Kruezer
Hall
Motlop
Treloar

Plenty of fish to fry.

Disagree. There was a reason why the Hampson deal was done day 1 of trade week. It was worked before the week that's why. TW mentioned this very topic today, even mentioning a heads of agreement deals. Yes technically not allowed but the AFL are fully aware of this and do nothing, so why stop the practice? They even have done the same on 'their' teams ie the suns/giants, so it would be a bit rich for them to pull up clubs about it, plus all of this type of practice in the past. The rules are, you arent allowed to sign with another team, but you can talk to them, and in doing so you come to an agreement. The injury aspect was talked about last year, and its still not been decided I think.
Not saying clubs don't talk and agree to deals, but I don't believe players would be involved in discussions so to speak. As I said all it would take is one player being told/promised that he is off to a club and having the deal fall through for it to all end up in the courts.

Think back to the outrage a week back when Colless threw Fitzpatrick under the bus by suggesting the AFL had all but arranged the Buddy to GWS deal and only hitting the Swans with a trade ban because the Swans trumped the Giants/AFL by having Buddy agree to join them instead.

So again I stand by my belief that while clubs no doubt chat, I don't believe they reach binding deals, more that they get an basic understanding of what each other are looking at to get deals done. If they were reaching binding agreements, why does it still take 2-3 weeks sometimes to get deals done that have been discussed all year. IMO it's more about getting the ground work in place so that deals can be done rather easily at trade period rather than locking themselves into deals. Remember the mess we got into when the McMahon/Morton deals were arranged. We got ourselves into a nice little mess by arranging 2 deals for the same price and messed up our chances of hitting the draft and landing Scott Selwood who we were looking at getting at the time.

Brisbanes farked.
Indeed. I'm almost glad they'll be getting some quality academy kids in, I feel for Leppa.

Would Kruezer come across for the reported 700K we are offering Motlop? I'd almost prefer Kruezer if we got Yarran to come across but it also brings up the issue of too many former Blues stinking the joint up.

Carlton have been noticeably better since Kreuzer came back.

Kreuzer is one of the few ruckman that isn't a liability when another ruckman is in the team.
