We are on the elevator going up, you are on the way down pal. And don't let the fact we are ahead of schedule fool you that we have missed our opportunity for a flag/s, we're only getting started.

How long have you been on the way up for? How long has everyone been talking about Collingwood's youthful list and how they'll really be the team of the future? You're not young forever. Essendon, on the other hand, are one of the youngest teams in the comp (3rd youngest?), we're only going to improve, I promise you that. We're not going to get worse with a team full of talented youngsters such as we have - making it to the semi final with such a young list is no easy thing. As for Hird, Lloyd & Fletcher, I don't think they need to get any better, do you? I can't see Lloyd suddenly going downhill, and Hird's been a champion for years.

If you're only getting started, you'd wanna hurry up and get started soon, and actually win one.

I'll address the thread topic when (if) it happens.

Would have thought it would make perfect sense..first year AT THE CLUB. Incidentally, Adam McPhee was also in the running for it, but, would consider himself pretty stiff to miss it.

Macpie, that was your 1107th post on BigFooty -

in all seriousness how many of those were actually about your own supported team Collingwood and how many were about Essendon and their apparent 'misfortunes' which are generally a load of **** and an exageration from you a lot of the time ...

I'd say 20/80 in favour of Essendon - you don't live in Napier Street do you?

That's pretty funny coming from a wobbler fan, particularly after last saturday.

The bombers were awarded the premiership in 1897 and 1924 when a Grand Final was not played.

Essendon won the premiership in those years after finishing top after the h&A seaosn and winning a round robin finals comp.

16 premierships, 2 clear. Collingwood supporters HATE this big fact!

c'mon Blakey. falling back on the cliches.

Turnabout's fairplay. When it comes to the gap between walk and talk I'd have thought you'd be keeping your mouth shut this week after your teams softco(k effort. All the talk about winning without rocca blah blah blah and then a performace as weak as p|ss. All talk, just like you.

40, 25, 50. Beautiful numbers.

As I've said, whirl covered it pretty well. Unlike you I see no reason to say something that's already been said.

Essendon Played 3, Won 3

Essendon finished 2nd at the end of the H&A season and under a final four system would have played Geelong. Ess d Geel to send Essendon straight through to the Grand Final. And seeing as we beat the other two top 4 teams, its no wonder we were awarded the premiership.

1924 Final Series (copied directly from afl.com.au)

1924 Finals Series
Wed 17 July, 2002
Graeme Atkinson
After a very spiteful season, Essendon again topped the home and away ladder with eleven wins, four losses and a tie, ahead of South Melbourne (eleven wins, five losses), and Fitzroy and Richmond (both ten wins, six losses).

The VFL made a foolish decision to change the finals system in 1924, and reverted to the old system whereby the top four teams played each other and the premier team was decided on the results of those matches. This led to the ludicrous situation where Essendon was defeated by Richmond in the last final, but stilI won the premiership on percentage. The system was a farce, and was never repeated. In addition, the public was not interested and gate takings for the six finals amounted to only £6,433, compared with £7 ,862 for four matches in 1923.

Anyway, Essendon won the flag on percentage, despite the thrashing by Richmond at South Melbourne in the last game. It was their second successive flag, but they were a very unhappy team. After their loss to Richmond, players exchanged blows in the rooms. Then, following a team dinner at Carlyon's Hotel, the side returned to Essendon where fists fley.l once more.

The following week, Essendon met Footscray (VFA premiers) in a charity match for 'the Championship of Victoria'. Footscray won nine goals ten to four goals twelve, and again fists flew in the Essendon rooms after the game, when it was alleged that some of the Dons had 'played dead'. In fact, one of the Essendon champions refused ever to appear with the side again, and in 1925 turned out with another League team (where he played in his third successive premiership side).

How long are you going to get off track and argue about the technicalities of what a premiership is, instead of just accepting that the official AFL record for premierships won by the Essendon Football Club is sixteen...like it or lump it.
