Anyone got any news of Billy Wilson's injury? He went off in the VFL match with what the commentators described as a possible knee problem.

Damn, Billy has been good. Future star. Cerra surely plays footy this week. Martin two weeks, hopefully what he has been doing has worked. Cerra and Martin probably the only players available for this season missing from the current best 22.

I would have Cottrell in the best 22 too ahead of Fantasia who is currently playing Cottrells old role

Martin could come in but not convinced - for either Williams or Owies

Cerra will definitely come in but not sure for who as we may rotate mids out eg Hewett, Ollie or Kennedy, or we may rotate Cincotta back for say Boyd or Cowan (as good as those two have been) and even Kemp is not a lock

As great as everyone’s playing we do have a bottom 6 (by definition) and I would have Kemp, Boyd, Fantasia, Ollie, Owies and Williams in there. With one of Hewett or Kennedy as sub sometimes depending on the opponent.

From current 23 you'd most likely think Fantasia and Durdin will make way for Cerra and Martin. You might then see Owies as a sub (or even Martin initially). Once Cotts is back and ready Ollie may be at risk for the heat of finals we might just need someone physically stronger when things get serious.

Depth can be as much about quality as availability. No Marchbank means we are relying on Lewis Young types in the event of an injury….swings and roundabouts.

The caveat to that would be that we are usually without our first and second choices when these always injured players are out.

We tend to build our list with a depth replacement and a project player/late draft pick.

If you got rid of the less durable players, you are seeking one of our young guys to slot into the number 2 slot, or you are looking to recruit fringe depth.

Unfortunately, you won't find quality from other clubs as those fringe players are let go because they aren't up to it, or are always injured.

It's quite the conundrum.

Yep. Reliable Marchbank is best 22 in probably every team in the comp. Those types aren’t going to come to us to plays 2s.

So it’s quality players with their own problems. Or below average players, who can be relied on. Or kids. The latter can be fine for mid, or outside type roles but rare that it’s an option for KP posts.

Who to drop?
Probably Fantasia, play Cerra as a forward who spends time in the middle. Fantasia is playing that high half forward role so pretty much an outside forward running mid. Have him as part of the midfield rotations rather than permanent mid.

Yes he probably is. But all available I can't see either Cottrell or Fantasia in the best 22. That is when Martin returns who plays ahead of both.

Cerra for Fantasia. He and Hollands to play that half forward role as well as spending time in the middle. Martin for Durdin, very strong sub. These changes make us a very very strong side.

Very high midfield rotations. Very high half forward rotations. Williams, Cincotta, Cerra and Hollands rotation through that high half forward role. Cerra, Hollands, Williams, Cincotta kicking the ball inside 50. Dynamite. Martin the Sub.

Look out for us in finals if we can get this going.

Spot on, that's the reality. The same said for Martin. Rare types, top shelf players at their best. Don't come cheap or readily available. Value is we have them. Hope is they do what Brad Pearce did and give us one full season which was a premiership season.

You don't just go out and replace these players. Because most of the time they aren't available or come at an enormous cost we can't fit into the cap.

We are second on the ladder without both. So we aren't desperate to replace them. We know they could just tip us over the edge and make us that fraction better.

We also aren't desperate for list spots. We have a good group who should go before Marchbank and Martin are considered.

Guess the report that Martin was sent off for more treatment was incorrect.

Good to see an update on Matt Carroll. Sad that he's not hitting the park soon.

Good Wilson's injury seems to be minor.

Yes keen to see more of Wilson, and hopefully he gets a taste in the 1’s if there’s a few openings and a less critical game later in the season.

And M Carrol hopefully gets a run of luck and gets on the park in the VFL.

Austin (& Team) chose these guys for a reason (thinking pacy mid, future KPD), and their record plucking guys like this has been good,

… so, I’m keen to see games & development into them, then get their opportunities

Wilson would have played senior games a few seasons ago, maybe even played last season. Doubt he plays this season. Will struggle to get games next season but he will be banging the door down. Guy will be a gun, we are a serious side to crack into, we have time to develop him. Expect him to play out the season at half back and start playing a bit on the ball next season and get a serious look at AFL in his third season.

Feel sorry for Matt Carroll, he's missed out on a lot of footy. He's be keen to get out there.

Jeez Martin is leaving it late. 2 more weeks plus at least one in the VFL leaves only 5 games until finals. His whole season is slipping away.

If Cerra comes back and reinjures that calf yet again that would be almost season over.

Players have done it. Can he do it? He's lucky he is a naturally good runner and extremely talented. Jack is not going to play 5 VFL games in a row without getting into the AFL team so if he holds up, and we know he is good enough. I think we should expect to see him.

The team is good enough to make the top 4, so we haven't needed him for the main season. But we may need him for finals, and if that is when we have him. We could be the team to beat come finals.

We only have to be the best team in the finals series. He only has to be a good player in the finals series.

Lets hope he can do it.

Agreed. He can definitely still impact the season (and finals) but it's starting to get to the point where it's now or never. Any more setbacks is going to mean big trouble. I rated him as our most important player last year when he and Fog got fit and came back into the team. And with Williams up there and Cunners now back running - I'd love to see what they could do as a group fully fit.

I'd love to see it too. Reckon Cuningham is a fair way away from our best 22. A few names have stood up in a big way this season there. Hollands, Cincotta, Williams. I also have a feeling that Cerra will come back and go through the half forward line a fair bit as well. All dynamite kicks so their hands on the ball going inside 50 will be awesome. When we are all fit, depth is really good. Even Martin. In my best 22, he's currently the sub. Which says a lot about how players have stepped up and how well they are playing.

Swans are the top team. A fully fit Carlton in finals will be very very hard to beat. IMO only Collingwood and Sydney will trouble us. At full strength we would be expecting to beat anyone.

Question: Jack Martin we all hope like hell that he can not only get up and running for a chance to help provide us with his undeniable talent we need and know that game changing level he can preform at from last years run of rare extended games, a match winner…
If he succeeds to come back and plays a major role again for the team then that’s a massive win for him and the club, but what if he’s body fails to allow him to play or get back on the park in any capacity? we will need to move past him at years end like a few others…
I feel for him because ability wise, it’s in the manner he plays the game he is the exact type of player that makes him a serious team/match winner, like Cunners and Marchy it’s a real shame that all their talent hasn’t allowed them to live up to their potential…

The worrying thing is the injury itself and how long he’s been out for.
