Lets see how 2018 pans out for Jones. Had he played from round 1, he would have been AA this year. You would like to think that he has a similar type year next year. Do you really want to trade out a 27y/o (next year) AA CHB?Regarding trading away all our value, I reckon Liam Jones could be one more player that fits into the Gibb, Menzel, Yarran, Hendo list.
If Mcredie develops as expected, why not cash in jones (if he continues his 2017 form) for a top 14-18 pick in a strong draft and take another mid. Surely a contending team would love a 27 year old Jones in 2018 and if we have Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman and McReadie he is surplus to our needs.
Our talent 23-18 would be insane if we added 2 more firsts in 2018 draft.
Maybe I'm still on a post-trade week 'glass half ****ing overflowing* high, but...
While I'd hate to lose a player like Macreadie, and fear we may not get true value for him if he did leave, I'd kinda see it as a good sign.
When you lose talented kids for lack of opportunities, it's due to poor management or because you are travelling so well and have surplus in that area. We aren't on the cusp of a premiership. Broadly speaking, I don't see us playing Rowe and ASOS ahead of Macreadie. So Macreadie leaving for more opportunities means Jones/Marchbank/Weiters etc have nailed down the KPD spots.
It's like GWS's midfield. They hardly notice a talented young mid leaving as they have so many and more in the pipeline. Yeah it would suck losing HMac #2, but it would be an endorsement of where the list is at. A mere flesh wound, and you move on.

Yup it's important to remember that Jack Riewoldt, Buddy and Hawkins really worked over his lack of aerobic capacity.Jones was pantsed a few times in the backend of the season...he’s a long way off AA
I don't even think it is about rotating faces.GWS are going nowhere near a premiership whilst they are rotating new faces all the time IMO

IMO whilst everyone is predicting premiership success for them each year, they will struggle. They have a hugely talented playing group that seems to be cruising along drinking their own fragrant bath water. They need to come down to earth. That will take time, and, perhaps a new coachTo be fair, they had an absolute horror run of injuries, and were cooked well before the finals began. That's not to say it will definitely happen for them, as many said prior to this year, and they'll miss Mumford, but I don't think we should judge their future chances on this season.
I fear we will lose Macreadie for a packet of chips.
At the end of the day, very likely other clubs will point out he's not best 22 and was originally drafted in the 40's...we couldn't expect much return unless he plays some AFL games and does well.

They just don't have a defensive bone in their collective bodies.
As soon as the pressure goes up, they cant maintain the free flowing football and turn it over and then they don't have enough defensive nous to stop other teams.

thought this year showed the team of champions/champion team construct for what it really isI think GWS situation is a bit odd, yes they don't seem to miss a good player leaving but they also seem to be on a constant build. At some point you'd think they will have to consolidate and actually win a premiership. For mine, I'm not sure they'll be any closer next year than they were in 2016.
You are referring to Adelaide right?IMO whilst everyone is predicting premiership success for them each year, they will struggle. Couldn't give a stuff what other clubs are doing, just getting sick and tired of having the goal posts moved every year. Why are we all so concerned what other clubs are doing? It's an easy case to argue for compensation for Ablett.
Moody Blue by name and nature...Couldn't give a stuff what other clubs are doing, just getting sick and tired of having the goal posts moved every year.
Waite played 11 years and 184 games for the Blues. Now into his third year, played in a Preliminary Final and for a period in 2015 was the best forward in the competition at North Melbourne. Ablett had a choice. he left Geelong for the $$$. His contract came up and he re-signed with GC. Was his family not an issue then? Obviously not. When it was obvious that GC were going nowhere he decides family is paramount and ofcourse another chance at a flag. Hodge went to Brisbane and yet the Lions still kept their compensation pick. Good on Brisbane to find and use the loop hole, but getting sick and tired of CFC being screwed over by the AFL. They screwed us over with Princess Park in the 90's which cost the club 20 million, the fines and penalties they imposed over the salary cap compared to West Coast, and Hawthorn who were never investigated or fined for their appalling lack of governance when their players were taking god knows what, and then we have the drug cheats who were rewarded for cheating by keeping their draft picks. Carlton was the only club that tested and subsequently suspended two players for illicit drug use. Not even a well done from the AFL. The AFL is falling over themselves to keep the scum happy. If Hird had not had such a big ego, the whole matter would have been swept under the carpet and he would probably still be coaching.

Really like HMac but yeah if there ain't no room he's gonna be better than depth.
I find this an interesting concern.
IMO we have a top 27 on our list that is the strongest since '95 and I could present an argument that it is the equal of any team in the league with 2 first round picks to come. This is what we have, sadly, lacked for more years than I care to remember. Players like White, Buckley, Graham and Palmer (if they remain on the list) are highly likely to not get a look in. Kerridge (who I like), Lamb, Boekhurst, Rowe, Phillips, Smedts and even Daisy will struggle for regular berths.
We haven't looked deep this for a long time.
Our problem now is our top 12, not many of whom would get a regular game in the best teams. We've lost one (and, short term it will hurt) but at present I can only find Murphy, Kruezer, Cripps and Docherty (apologies to Simmo on age only) who fit into this category. We need to rectify this but if at the end of 2018, hopefully we add some of SPS, Kennedy, Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, Jones, Picket, Charlie, Williamson, Fisher and SOSOS we lift ourselves into the contender category and start looking for the FA messiah.
Some will fall by the wayside and we may get a packet of chips only for them but it can only be a good thing because that makes us the hunted and not the hunter. It also means we can allow the likes of Macreadie, Mackay, Polson and the new recruits time to develop their skills.
I'm not expecting huge things next year but I'm starting to get bullish about those beyond. I think we're building a list that will last beyond a Bulldog type single year assault.
2 things Moods - you ever spell it Princess Park again and I will come for you. Also, why do you think the AFL are treating us unjustly? Surely any animosity towards Elliot has diminished by now?Couldn't give a stuff what other clubs are doing, just getting sick and tired of having the goal posts moved every year.
