I think it would have been a factor, without a doubt. Not the only one, I'm sure.

Kennedy isn't Kelly, so leaving him out was never going to have a huge impact on the team's performance. He's a second year midfielder being played at HF. If they're tossing up between him and Taranto, I can easily see how they'd prioritise the player they want to keep for the next decade, rather than the one they know is on the move a month later.

He could have had DeBoer's spot of course, but then it becomes a question of experience.

My point is, questioning Kennedy's pedigree or potential on the basis that he was dropped by GWS for their finals campaign is a bit of an overreaction. He's a young, inexperienced player, best suited to a position they're well stocked in, and it's fairly clear they knew he was likely to be a casualty of their list squeeze. Leaving him out in favour of an experienced defensive small forward and a first year mid/fwd that GWS intend to retain as long as possible - makes sense to me.

I did not question his potential and I probably know more about his pedigree than you, I merely questioned the over reaction by some on this board who seem to believe that he's our missing link. He may prove to be in the coming years but he, alone, won't add many wins to our win ratio in 2018.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a very good get but I stop well short of calling it a huge get at this point.

About 1 in 100 people are coeliac.

Apparently less than that are gluten intolerant (this is not a medical condition, just people that feel crap when they eat gluten).

Seemingly 20% of people I speak to about food are on a gluten-free diet.

I've only met five people that were willing to talk to me long enough to discuss food. One of them was on a gluten-free diet. So, 20% :p

On the off chance you were querying my earlier claims....I know it's wiki, but I can't be bothered spending too much time on a topic that will be (rightfully) moved.....

Coeliac 1-2%
Non-ceoliac gluten insensitivity (aka gluten intolerant) 0.5-13%

I'm guessing those 5 asked you if you want fries with that?

Love ya work Tommy !!!

Could have something to do with the fact that last year he had to be traded for, this year he's a free hit. Reckon if he was an RFA last year he would have found a few suiters.[/QUOTE]

Your right. He would have. At what price?

SOS offered him what he thought he was worth. Port valued him higher. He will play for Port.

Hawthorn, Geelong (before the brain fart trades of Dangerfield and now Ablett) and Sydney don't over pay players. They build teams and pay players accordingly. That system of team management has been proven to work.

We have SPS, Marchbank, Williamson, Fisher, Curnow, McKay, Cunningham and probably a few others that will increase in value and we will need to pay accordingly.

Throwing $700K+ at a 28 year old for a quick fix goes against everything we are trying to do with our list. Remember Daisy Thomas?

Rome was not built in a day.

Tom Rockliff, who has nominated Port Adelaide as his preferred club

"Over the coming days we'll lodge paperwork with Port," Petroro said.

"Tom, at age, 27, saw Port in a really opportunistic position in regard to finals and Tom wanted to chase some success."

I really hope Port don't make the finals next year.

That system only works if you are a successful club, we are some way from there yet and paying overs may very well be the only way we can get there.

The trick is to find the right player to throw the big bucks at and the timing of said throw. Thomas proved to be the wrong one at the wrong time and Rockliff may well have been placed in the same category by SOS but I don't see a 28yo who can play as a quick fix.

listen to the interview with SOS at the draft academy....he mentions the draft picks AT THE MOMENT....BUT THAT COULD CHANGE
and on whether or not it was a deep draft....he inferred to about 25 or 30

There is a big difference between people saying they are gluten intolerant and people who are actually coeliac.

About 1 in 100 people are coeliac.

Apparently less than that are gluten intolerant (this is not a medical condition, just people that feel crap when they eat gluten).

Seemingly 20% of people I speak to about food are on a gluten-free diet.
Gluten intolerance is definitely not the same as Coeliac disease, but it's important to recognise gluten intolerance is an umbrella term, and that there are many gluten-related disorders. Prevalence might be as high as 5%, as the factors that might produce intolerance extend beyond genetics.

The number of people going gluten-free is obviously much higher, but I suspect a good chunk of these people might be seeing digestive benefits from simply eliminating shitty carbs and being more focused on nutritional outcomes.

Anyway, on with the football!

Lot of retrospective nonsense going on to downplay the contributions that Smith, Saad and Rockliff could have made to our club. It's hardly being chicken little to say that our club made a pitch at all three and failed. That's a bad outcome.

Having said that, SOS would have 10 trades in play leading into this period, and will have other plans (like Kennedy). But let's not go around deluding ourselves that we have somehow been saved from a guy with bad knees, another with poor disposal and one bad hombre.

He's crap hopefully only being sounded out for a VFL gig, havent seen any mention other than one line in a foxfooty article a month ago
Disagree, he is the Fijian heritage guy that started 2016 on fire. Polled 3 votes in the Brownlow for his 1st 3 games of 2016 then in the next game was dropped by Rocket Eade. Apparently because in those games where he was getting BOG every week he wasn't following the team plan. The rub on him seems to be that he only runs 1 way, downhill skier, likes the flashy stuff on the outside but not keen to get his hands dirty. That said, polling 3 votes for 3 weeks in a row as an unheard of kid is no small achievement. Since then most of the noise has been about him improving his defensive game in the '2's. If i was him I would be wanting to build on my good form from last season not watch my career evaporate in the GC reserves. If SOS and co think they can turn him around on the cheap I am all for it. Clearly he can play, maybe we can sit him on the outside of Kennedy and Cripps

He's a second year inside midfielder averaging 17 possessions a game, what's not to like? Not every young player can be Cripps or Bontompelli in there second seasons.

I think it's solid output for a young big body player. Not other worldly, but good signs. I'd suggest his average will jump to about 21-22 next season, with about half being contested. If that happens it will be huge in regards to providing help to Cripps and Curnow inside and pushing Murphy and Gibbs back outside.

I'd agree it probably isn't a huge get, but it would be similar to Richmond getting Caddy last season. Not massive but a big help to the engine room.

Was building quite nicely this year after starting the year with only 3 games to his name and in an already busy midfield (look at the individual game tallies down bottom). Look forward to seeing him line up round 1.

You're thinking of Aaron Hall, not Matt Shaw.

He's on track for a 3rd year breakout and will be a 25+ average possession midfielder in the future. Easily the pick of the bunch between himself, Rocky and Smith. SOS knows this.
