Coniglio is coming if he decides to leave GWS.
I love you hate you love you hate you love you
but I'll want you till the day I die
haven't you got important work to run off and do?:p

I'm curious...why did we have so many posters come out and seem quite confident of landing him, if your last 2 posts are true? Were we just excited because we knew had a big offer? Was there any indication of leaning to us? Just makes all those rumour posts from last week seem strange if he actually hadn't told us anything like you mentioned.
plenty riding the wave the media brings.

From what I've put together Barrass has ties to CFC list management and EP has ties to player management. Barass will give us what CFC thinks is happening and EP wil give us what the player managers think is happening. The fact that Barrass is rare but constant whilst EP comes out of the woodwork at trade time backs my theory

No.

While Cogs may stay with the Giants I do think there’s reasons other than money which will pry him away including:
Cameron seems to be the wrong coach
Their medical staff have been poor with all their players and let Cogs play this year with an injury which got worse in the next game and he’s missed months because of that
His teammates seem to be more about earning money than playing for each other and winning a flag - it’s unlikely they would take say a $100K pay cut to lure another player to the team like the Pies and Cats have done for example
They didn’t make him Captain this season which is what was expected - and there’s no guarantee he will be captain next season either
He wasn’t keen on joining the Giants - in fact he almost didn’t enter the draft so he could avoid going there
And yet he’s been the most professional and committed player there since then - which means most others don’t really have their heart in it
They also don’t have the depth required and the role players - too many stars and conditional players and not enough B grade players who bust their gut every week

Bolded is a concern that I've had for a while. I think there is a very real chance that Cameron will be cut loose if they, and it looks likely, lose their first Semi.

If their new coach is to Coniglio's liking it may just be the clincher for him.

The state of play can change daily, let alone in the space of a week with offers, counter offers and only becomes more complicated as other clubs join in.
So the options are:
1) The posters with some knowledge of proceedings stop posting until the decision is made..
2) They keep us updated and we try and enjoy the ride..

If Gil starts meddling and he has already done enough with his comments. It could very well work against him/GWS.

He's shown that for someone who is supposed to treat/love all his "children" equally, he doesn't. His comments reek of corruption. If he does anything, if the AFL meddle at all I would think that is probably something that would push someone like Coniglio out, even if it makes it more favorable for Coniglio to stay he just seems like someone who would not want to be involved in something like that.

reckon if Gil meddles all it does is paint GWS and the AFL with corruption and it will backfire on them big time. Players don't want to be a part of that.

In negotiations.. things change

Constantly
Don't believe that anything has changed, Carlton have made a large offer, Coniglio & and his manager are very interested along with Hawks, l believe he is still leaning towards leaving, but naturally there is a chance he may stay eg Kelly some years ago.

i think most people including the media get ahead of themselves, and everyone wants to be the newsbreaker when it clear there will be no decision until season end, GWS seem to be a club not going in a positive direction so maybe a new coach may be the decider but that would be unlikely to be until October if they decide to this path.

It would be wise for Coniglio and any other recruit to play hard with us. If we have to chase them hard and if we think it's going to be hard to get them then that's going to make us pay top price for them.

The whole undecided thing or unlikely to leave thing may well be true but may not be the whole truth. Good way to up our offer or make sure we don't shrink our offer in any way.

Just need to let it play out. Let the expression of interest lead to the player exploring the club and hoping we sell it and then hoping negotiations go favorably from there.

No doubt there are no definitive decisions at this stage but I am sure everyone is playing everyone a little too.

Theyre not going to fire Coniglio before the end of the Season and Coniglio will have made his mind up by then. As soon as the players are off to Bali or Thailand he won't be thinking about who the coach of his footy club is, he'll be thinking about do I want to stay with these boys next season (the boys he's in Bali with) or do I want to go to Melbourne, play in front of 50,000 every week and get Coffees in Lygon street with Jaeger. (oh and earn millions)

I’d love us to build up momentum with what we have and some solid picks/trades rather than think 1 bloke coming in will make all the difference, especially having to pay that bloke what is described as one of the largest contracts in the afl history.

The pressure on him, the pressure on the decision makers, the pressure it puts on the list. That f’ed thinking.

Let’s win multiple flags without thinking we need to bringing the messiah to do it.

We have elite talent on our list that’s about to ******* explode.

I’d love Coniglio, but perhaps we are not ready for him.

Let’s get up the ladder with what we’ve got plus some solid picks/trades and get in a position where the top talent want us more than we want/need them.

I want players that play for the jumper not the cash.

If we do land him I’ll still be doing the pants down helicopter.

Agreed BC. While a rabbit would be nice, it was the prestia + caddy + someone else (?) trade that set 9thmond on their flag path.

This, I reckon.
Behind the scenes, Gil will be madly scrambling to get them a new, cooler coach to entice Cogs to stay. What are the chances he somehow gets Clarko over for $3M a year? Everyone can pack up now and go home if that happens.
While also digging into his black ops wallet for extra ambassadorial $$ to help "match" the Carlton offer.
