Wouldn't be surprised if he is/was a regular on boards like this one. Think he gets a lot more enjoyment out of spinning hypotheticals than spinning headlines. You can tell when someone calls up and gives him an interesting trade hypothetical, he gets genuinely excited about it.

Can confirm there are journos that have BF accounts.

Apparently North believe they are in the box seat for Papley, looks like Mason Wood part of the deal

If Papley isn't fixated on a single club I can see it being a good fit. Think they've done almost as well as we have in stabilising their public image - while they've had a couple of really poor performances, they've also absolutely belted a couple of decent sides as well, something we haven't been able to do.

North will have a slightly better pick than ours, and if they're offering a player like Mason Wood as well that probably trumps what we'd be willing to package up. If Papley really wants to come back to Victoria, and Sydney are prepared to hold them to his contract if they don't get a satisfactory deal, then he may be happy to let a few clubs barter for him.

Yeh take your point...I think that Gaff was a slightly unusual situation though given the suspension he was serving at the time and, from all reports, he was battling mentally at the time around that...

All I was thinking was it would be an 'opportune' time to announce it for him, with some meaning, if it was leading into what looks like an otherwise difficult finals campaign for GWS.

I know some may disagree, but I'd prefer he stayed at GWS rather than go to the Hawks...

Find it funny also with the article on Clarkson being angry at poaching staff given the tactics he has displayed previously. There was a story about him being turned down by a player a few years ago only to turn up unannounced at his door step whilst he was on holidays...much worse than Russell leaving a voice mail I reckon...think the player was Tom Boyd from memory, but might be wrong...
I understand that but, correctly me if I’m wrong the ONLY free agent that publicly has announced I’m going, has been Tom Lynch & even he didn’t announce it was Richmond until day 1 of free agency opened.

History shows us it will be nothing but rumours and media speculation until day 1 of free agency.

I’d love Coniglio, but perhaps we are not ready for him.

I want players that play for the jumper not the cash.

We are ready. We have a solid foundation of youth. We need the cream on top.

You're kidding yourself if you think money isn't a factor for the majority of players.

You're also kidding yourself if you think changing clubs under free agency changes whether they play their heart out for the team.

Key example - Eddie Betts played his heart and soul for the Blues. Took his performances to another level at Adelaide.

No sorry was saying if he had decided to re-sign with GWS we might hear about it next week (agree if he leaves won't be until at least after GWS out of finals)

Yeah agreed. If he signs GWS announce it the same day. Motivation for team mates for finals, supporters etc.

*If* they win first round of finals and he doesn't sign that week, he's 99% gone surely.

I'd say the bye week before the finals start is the next 'milestone' to get over in the Cogs saga...if he doesn't announce resigning in that week I would think he was leaving...others have committed during that week before finals before, and timing would certainly give GWS a lift...if he had decided already to re-sign, holding off until next week makes sense to me...

Gaff didn't commit to West Coast until AFTER the Grand Final...although GWS have been open about pushing him for a decision ASAP so they probably wouldn't be prepared to wait as long as West Coast were.

IMO i think he'll stay due to the fact it's no coincidence that a week after the corrupt CEO announced he'd love the rabbit to be eaten in Sydney then all of a sudden they suddenly have found some more money for him.
That's what worries me.

The Carlton crew would've sorted this out in no time a few years back...

AFL will not let gws get screwed If he leaves. They will try and manipulate the highest compensation. GWS will match %100

They were happy for lynch to go tigers for free as their competition was high, pick 3? Tigers two first rounders last year and this year were too low.

I love how b70 plays with everyone’s emotions,” likey staying” and then minutes later “ is coming if he leaves lol 😂
Well he's just ocnfirming that if he leaves GWS its to come to us, no the Hawks. So now all we need to worry about is the Corrupt AFL and how far they'll go to meddle in clubs' affairs.

It's still all horse shit.

GC are a basketcase while Richmond won a premiership in 2017 and are premiership favourites...he had no issue with a star and co-captain walking out on a struggling club to a powerhouse. Whereas with Coniglio he'd be going from a stronger team to a weaker one.

AFL were helping GWS poach Buddy from Hawthorn, and once Sydney picked their pocket the AFL took away their COLA and slapped a trade ban on them.

He'll just do whatever it takes to get the outcome the AFL wants...there is no fairness or equality.

Bolded is a concern that I've had for a while. I think there is a very real chance that Cameron will be cut loose if they, and it looks likely, lose their first Semi.

If their new coach is to Coniglio's liking it may just be the clincher for him.
Exactly my thoughts too. With the possibility of him leaving I’m sure he knows exactly what GWS are planning to do coachwise next year. Maybe he’s waiting to see who the new coach, if any, may be before he makes his decision ?
