Removing hamstrings could be the new moneyball strategy in high performance. Can't strain 'em if you haven't got 'em.

Hypothetical…..as a Carlton person..I want us to win a flag/s asap.
People on here say ‘we can’t get rid of this player’, but if we did & won a flag next year would you really care?
How upset would u be?
Team or player?
Personally I’d trade anyone if it meant we won a flag next year.
What if the trade meant you won 1 flag, but ruined your chance of winning more than 1?

Refuse to build the foundation... What were Cripps, Curnow, Mckay, Weitering, Walsh and Docherty?

Pretty sure that's about as good a foundation as there is in the AFL, issue is our trades haven't all worked out in Williams, Martin, Mcgovern etc

Was just told the same thing from someone inside Melbourne, Trac still wants out and his family is really pushing it they want him out of Melbourne. Trac also wants everyone to go if he is to stay at the Dees. Pert, Goodwin and Richardson

This was always bound to pick up steam when Marsh came back from his holiday.

When I posted what the discussion was among journos (and agent) on social media I had no idea Marsh had been absent throughout the whole thing.

I find it strange that the head of the AFLPA would be away for three months of the actual 7-month AFL season.

Really all the list Team need to be able to do is pick some quality flankers and the coach should barely have to lift a thumb. Instead we're stuck with some seriously ordinary individuals on the field each week and make playing footy look like pushing s*** up a hill

We have 7 AA players on the list, with 6 of them playing the majority of the season together, the next 6 all being good players, to me that’s a good side, the more i asses our season, our coaches tactics and team selection, the more frustrated i become at our situation.

In 1994, we had an even more embarrassing loss in the finals against Geelong.

Geelong showed that day, trust the kids, you never know how they will perform.

We added a couple more.players, a few came on from the fringes, and we won the 1995 Premiership.

The difference from one season to the next is minimal when it comes to success. Small tweaks here and there, and get the boys fit.

My first mooted trade scenario... you know its preseason. I can smell it.

This is further to the disgruntled small forward chatter... did I read a while ago a mooted 3-way trade with the Suns? This is also working off rumour of Martin wanting to go back to QLD.

I wonder if something like this would be in Austin's thinking...

GC give Lukosius, Pick 34 receive CAR F1, Jack Martin
CAR give F1, Jack Martin, receive Rachele
ADE give Rachele, receive Lukosius, Pick 34

Who says no?

I say no.

Adelaide get a good deal, Suns dont.

I think Jack Martin will be lucky to get us 4th round pick, meaning you have us getting Rachele for a F1.

Remove 34 from GC and have us tipping in a bit more and i think it’s realistic, i just think you’re overvaluing Martin.

You’re so right. People on here get upset at the thought of a player being traded. It’s a sport and trades happen. Who the **** cares if someone people have up on their wall leaves. Especially if we get something great in return.

GWS get slaughtered each and every year of great player and look at them. They turn a player leaving into picks or trades and do well. Rinse and repeat.

I do find it’s mainly the younger people on here who through a hissy or thumbs down to someone having a think tank moment of a player being traded. It’s like it’s the end of the world in that moment for way too many on here.

I’m ok with anyone leaving our club as long as we better ourselves in the future.

We had a proven quality coach though, although according to many, a very rigid coach who didn’t change much, Voss has some serious doubts though.

Didn’t we add Ken Judge as an assistant at the end of 94?

Youre right though, a few game plan and tactics tweaks, plus a few players and things change.

Granted Weiters, Cripps, Curnow, Walsh etc are a great foundation - but how bad for how long did we need to be to get those picks!
Building on them for prolonged success is vital
