This is so frustrating. Perryman regarded as behind his mate Matt Kennedy when both were at GWS.

CHUGGA is still every bit the player Perryman is, they get a first rounder and if he leaves, we will be extraordinarily lucky to get a late second rounder.
Very different scenarios though.

One is a free agent, the other is being strategically pushed out because there are 4-5 players ahead of him. As soon as you indicate a contracted player is expendable a lot of your bargaining power.

I'm not sure what kind of salary Kennedy would attract if he was a free agent, but it would be far less than the Pies are willing to pay for Perryman.

I'm actually happy their designating a fair chunk of cap space to a guy who is a B/B+ grade defender and unproven as a mid.

Barrett would suggest McKay to Bris for both 20 and 13 picks plus another first rounder from a third club.
Brisbane are going to be about 2000 points in deficit taking Ashcroft and Marshall which will wipe out next years picks as well as this years. They won't be trading for anything unless they push some decent players out the door

It’s a joke but what do you do. I think we all expected Saints to somehow pick 8. What I don’t like is that a clubs president can slag off his employer and get away with it.

Like on a bit of public pressure and then get given pick 8 in q high quality draft.

Beats tanking for a high pick. Big win for them, big loss for numerous other clubs including us. Big loss for integrity in the system.

Breathtakingly spineless fold by Dillon, Kane or whoever.

Now, can we get Cook or sayers out there complaining on an issue and make a play for a bonus top end pick, 5-9 sounds ‘fair’ in this great looking draft?

Edit: thought you had to finish bottom about 4 years in a row to get a priority pick.

Their footy existence is built entirely on wishing bad on other teams. They get more joy out of other teams losing to them than they do winning.

Perennial stains on the comp.

They should be relegated to the Bush League!

Just think of it through this lense... Pies are paying Perryman band 1 level money 😂😂😂😂

Schultz and Perryman... What a team 😂
Even if they'd overpaid for players in the past you could at least see the logic in it. McStay was on a huge contract, but they didn't have a decent key forward so he was the best they could get for the players available.

They have plenty of similar players to Schulz though. Perryman is a bit of a throw at the stumps, but he just isn't particularly good at any one thing. They're coughing up 900k for a solid role player who can compete in a couple of positions.

Wild stuff.

What I don’t like about the compensation picks is that there is very little motivation for lower rung sides to retain a free agent which is the exact opposite of what should be happening. Saints should be desperate to retain one of their better players but the way the system is, they’re happy to see the back of him to take another high pick to the draft.

It’s too easy to wax to get a good pick. Hawks pay overs as to not have to trade. Hawks get a good player. Saints get a quality pick. And 16 other clubs get disadvantaged. The system needs an overhaul. There also should be some weighting to it so that bottom teams losing a good player get more advantage than a good team losing a player because very rarely is it a good player leaving a good team. Free agency really only helps teams currently doing well IMO.

Yes, the system is completely broken when North were incentivised to lose their 1 decent key defender last year, which made them a worse team.

Hmmm, I’m on the side of the fence that says many of the issues Petracca has with the club are around the culture side of things…Oliver heads the q of culture that helps destroy everything.

I believe Oliver’s being shopped to help placate Petracca, but that’s me

Your spot on, it's Trac that wants Oliver out

I don't think Battle is one of their more important players which is why they'd be comfortable with parting with him.

Howard and Wilkie are their pillars in defence.

Might be going early but I don't see any reason for Hawthorn to bring in both Battle and Barrass, so the whole scenario kind of balances itself out. Almost 2 million pa and a 1st round pick spent on 2x key defenders, neither of which are in the Top 10 in the league is borderline insane.
