Would rather do away with bands, and have each free agent assessed to a particular points value, with the compo pick then slotting in at whatever points value it lands. Secondly, a "tribunal" or whatever to assess merits of any compo pick in top 20.

That's assuming we can't do away with the thing altogether, which is my first preference. Or make the purchasing club pay with points, which is second preference.
Point is, that weaker clubs get more material compensation and stronger clubs the reverse. It makes perfect sense if trying to even competition up.

Sure, and that can be part of the assessment.

The trouble is that each time this happens, the other 16 clubs are also affected. I really don't think these compo picks should be plucked from thin air. The purchasing club should pay - even if it's a discounted payment.

The system is broken when North is incentivised to lose McKay.
Without the #3 as compo, they would have tried to keep him, and he would have been happy to stay.

The way to help player movement would be to get rid of Restricted Free Agency, everyone becomes Unrestricted after 8 years service.
Yep. The last thing North needs is more early draft picks after being uncompetitive since 2017.

What I am hearing is SOS is stoked with the pick he got for Battle.

Our offer still clearly better if you value our and Pies F1 similar.

We are offering F1 + F2 for 13.

Pies essentially want F1 for 13 in a straight swap and want 23 for Noble which is overs.

I don't think we can up our offer. They can concede 23 and ask for 29 for Noble. Even then it is highly arguable whether Noble is worth that and they'd be accepting F1 for 13 in a straight swap.

They'd be better off taking our F1 + F2 for 13 early. Then deal separately on Noble. Pies will be forced to deal on Noble regardless but as long as GC have 13 they will drag it out.

Ofcourse he'd be stoked, band 1 compo for Battle is the biggest laugh you'll ever hear

Not even the Saints were expecting that based on how salty they were with battle leaving. If they knew it was band 1 he would have been clapped out the door.

Yes our offer is far better. Unless Pies are making Noble available only if they get 13 which would be a bit ridiculous I don't understand why they would ever take that deal. 29 for 23 doesn't make it much better either.

Strewth.

I’m so conflicted as to whether I want Houston or not.

What an emotional rollercoaster.

Do we want him? Or not?
We do? We don’t?

We do? We don’t?

Not when GC can take our offer and just offer 29 for Noble in a straight swap. No way pies turn that down as it's still overs for Noble.

End up with our F1 + F2 + Noble and lose 29 instead of just Pies F1 + Noble.

There's some occasions where dragging out a deal helps you maximise the outcome. I believe in this case it's the opposite for them.
