I'm not one to idolise players but gee I really enjoyed watching Kennedy in a Blues guernsey.
We need more players like Kennedy, not less.
He gives 100% every week.
Gets asked to play ridiculous roles like relief ruck and still gives his best.
Meanwhile we keep many that aren't up to the new levels required, give less effort, can't stay fit and in some cases, are on more money.

I'm all for changes. I called for it long before we got to second spot - but they need to be the RIGHT changes.

No settled position and not a 1st XVIII player but should have some trade value.

He gives a very slow 100% and therein lies the problem that we seem to be identifying in the squad.

I might be in the minority here, but I absolutely love this.

The list balance is poor, and the game plan is not current and is not sustainable with the list we have.

The players get beaten up by this game plan on a weekly basis. They know we don't have the pace in the side to shut down opposition run, and the defence is left high and dry constantly.

When you select slower inside mids as half forwards and half backs, you have an unbalanced side. We have 6 of these types trying to fit into our side ... Cripps, Hewett, Kennedy, Cerra, Lord and Carroll. We then have wingers and Walsh for the rest of the midfield, and Walsh wants to be inside too.

We then have small forwards playing up the ground in order to fit into the side. Owies, Durdin, Motlop, Williams, Fantasia, Fogarty. Of these only Durdin and Fantasia have any toe. It's like an Aldi brand mosquito fleet picking up an average of 8 possessions per game each. Where's the class?

We have a 195cm beast key defender who lacks pace to stop leading forwards, we have a couple of athletic but undersized players who aren't natural defenders, a 197cm player who can run and spoil but struggles to move the ball and lacks a hard edge and .... nothing.

We have 6 superstars, some really reliable players and a whole lot of (by AFL standards) ... dross. Role players certainly, but not consistent role players.

Our elite players often look poor and it's hard to work out whether they are frustrated or whether they are suffering from what they are surrounded by.

I'm glad this is coming out. I hate the tail wagging the dog, as it usually does at this club, but does anybody look at the way we play and get dazzled by the skill and see players enjoying themselves?

We've been too comfortable for too long. I'm glad Voss is challenging them, and I'm glad some senior players are pushing back.

They'd do well to point out these home truths and each side accept their own part in this. If one side doesn't want to listen, they're the problem and they must go.

Enough already. Communicate. Break some eggs. Feast on a premiership omelette.
In general agreement with this. The players, coaches and administration should be pissed off with the missteps and lost opportunities and I’d expect open and difficult conversations, followed by hard decisions. Take whatever actions are required to course correct. There shouldn’t be any self satisfaction from this season. We’re not bloody St Kilda looking to release game-streak dvd box compilations. We’re here to contend for premierships and build for sustained success.

Completely agree. We fans just need to accept some of our favourites might go, but we need to stop being so nice and demand more from out list.

Like you said, we have 6 Superstars, and of those 6 it might be the best set up in the league - 2 Coleman forwards, 1x Brownlow & Finals Finals B&F mids & an AA Full back. The spread and balance of the stars is elite. The fact we have barely just scraped into the 8 is unacceptable and we need to finally do something about it.

There's no arguments from anyone about that.

The clubs solution seems to be to add more superstars though (Houston, Petracca). Is that really sending much of a message? Is that demanding more? Just seems like an easy call to gut depth & create room for 1 more AA player (because 7 isn't enough).

I'm glad the players & coaches & club as a whole are frustrated, I'm glad there's some challenging calls being made, I'm just really not sure I'm on board with their solution.

To me, a tough or ruthless call is trading a Harry or Cerra and getting multiple 1st rounders and some gun role players to boost our squad of 30, not trading Matt bloody Owies.

Hello Baggers fans,

I’d like to let you know that I have ties to the Carlton Football Club, though I can't reveal my identity for confidentiality reasons. It’s important to understand that the club is undergoing a strategic transformation aimed at securing the ultimate success as soon as possible. This involves making tough decisions, including parting with some talented players. While it might seem harsh, these moves are designed to pave the way for bringing in higher-caliber talent that will enhance our chances of winning the premiership in 2025 and hopefully beyond. The club's commitment to becoming a premier team means making these difficult choices now for a brighter future.

Feel free to ask questions, and I’ll do my best to address them. However, please keep in mind that I might not be able to provide specific answers due to confidentiality.
Go Blues!
Welcome..

How close is The Bont to getting done?

Thanks in advance.

Your option is him or Hewett.

Kennedy wants more inside midfield minutes and we are already too slow in the guts.

When people say they want the ‘right changes’ this usually means bundling Durdin, Marchbank and a late 3rd for petracca.

Unfortunately reality is a little harder.

That’s not how a salary cap, list numbers or drafting & trading works.

Seek to extract value for MK (& Owies) hence he’s on the outer (or he could be back at pre-season).
You just contradicted yourself.
You gave your opinion on how list management works. Then you go on to mention shopping around an uncontracted player that the whole competition knows has been told to go elsewhere, whilst also mentioning getting maximum return via a trade for his services.

Ummm, that's not how trading works! ;)

If we stick with the same players, same game plan, same list management strategies and same strength and conditioning we will go backs if we haven’t yet already. Other teams are flying past us so I’m all on board this rumour that we’re looking everywhere and the club isn’t happy.

Let’s shake it up a lot for 2025.
We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas.

Sadly, as I discussed with several people on here meetings we had with senior players last Monday after Lions loss didn't really solve anything. Interesting the names mentioned as possible trades are the ones I mentioned as not being happy and there are more players involved.

There is probably more concerns and rumours coming from the club than I have heard in 3 years.

There is a lot of frustration amongst the playing group. Especially senior players. This has been bubbling along for a few months and IMO this has been shown in results.

It seems internally the coaches and LM are blaming the players? This is where the issues seem to lie.

The club is at a real cross roads in regards to it's football department. These things need to be fixed and addressed. Voss won't be sacked (I don't think) but he needs to take things on board or he will really lose the group. If he can I can see us being Top 4 and if he doesn't we could fall dramatically.

Game plan, style and expectations seems to be the major issue but there are issues with List balance, contracts and who we are possibly targeting.

As I have said for months we are speaking with anyone and everyone and there will be a minimum 8-10 changes. Houston wasn't a target of Austin but Voss is pushing for him. What will happen I have no idea.

This is where Cook needs to step up and I have concerns about Lloyd. IMO, A strong Head of Football wouldn't have let these issues fester

Fingers crossed we can sort this and soon. I never would have believed this 6 months ago. Next 4-6 weeks will determine a lot of our future. I believe it's this serious
I have concerns regarding Cook, he has a great record and it appears he loves continuity, my concern though is.

How easy is it to preach continuity when you appoint Malthouse and you are challenging for premierships straight away.

How easy is it when you appoint Thompson and Scott and the club is constantly at the top.

Does he have the guts to make changes if Voss wasn’t the right choice?

Just curious, what do people genuinely see chugga and mowies being worth at the trade table. And what they're actually worth not what we hope to get. Kennedy may get you a mid to late second/early third. Owies I'd suggest is at best a third

Owies worth a couple of goals a game and plays every week? Second rounder

How bad are we at playing poker

JMartin - for no trade value
Kennedy - pushed out = minimum trade value
Martin would have been shopped around ages ago and teams would have gone "yeah nah thanks". As talented as he is, he is perennially injured and no team would trade that liability in. They'll take a punt for free but not for picks. The delisting was at Martins request, the club obliged.

As for Kennedy, it seems there is a disconnect between where he prefers to play and where he is needed to play. I think its a bit rich when these players trot out the old "wherever the coach wants me to play" one minute then sook up the next when they are played somewhere different. He can explore options, if he can get a better deal/positional guarantee, the club will trade and facilitate it.

C'est la vie.

Kennedy an earlish 2nd, most likely an upgrade of 2nds. Knowing the other party's list manager, it will be a drawn out affair

Owies, early 3rd

That will depend entirely on the demand. I would be amazed if Chugga doesn’t have multiple suitors we may have a little control over. I will be disappointed if he can’t draw us a second rounder. Owies is a very hard one to read, probably early third rounder is the mark, but it is galling when his output pretty much matches Lachie Schultz who drew a first rounder, plus.

Would love them to go as a package deal and get us a top thirty pick.

Sat next to Setanta on a plane once. I wanted to introduce myself so badly, but he was wearing sunglasses, a hoodie and a face that said 'leave me the fook alone, ya lil' leprechaun'. So I did.

Was there when he kicked 5 against the Pies. Was also there when he played on from the goalsquare and was caught holding the ball...

Best part of him was the opponent could never guess what he was going to do. Because he had NFI either!

When's the fookin' hittin' start?

Basically if we've actually "announced" to these 3 to go look and it's been made public then we've put our nuts in a sling as per usual with our trading power. Other clubs list management will be going, "well you've told them you've wanted them out"... same thing happened with Dow, we got peanuts. Now Martin we just let go???? and he's got 2-3 suitors who may have at least given us a late 3rd or 4th which by our standing having to add 7+ players to our list may of been some benefit.

I get we don't want to go all out DoDo on our perception with trades and such, but boy oh boy wowee getting tired of being so nice. Might as well help Brisbane get Ashcroft for nothing in return, like we did with the Hawks a few years back.

I'd keep Kennedy's "slow 100%" over Fantasia and quite a few others.

Fantasia is not a starting mid type with plenty of competition for a couple of spots who can be “slow 100%”

Look at the positions they’re best suited to on the field than comparing players straight out
