Just a bit of clarification for me. I read about the need for pace, etc. for the player we will select at pick 3. Not disagreeing, but what I don't hear about is how good are they at marking the ball. This, to me, is a trait that we often fail to rate. I'd love to know which of those potential players is the best mark because in close contests that it an underrated skill that can be decisive.

Go and have a read of the West coast board. You feel hard done by - they are positively riotous.
Really don't care about any other teams mate.
Am only going on what it looks like for us to me.
But I am no expert.
Time alone will tell if it'
s a good idea or not.

It seems we cant afford to pay two draftees..only the one... :D

Those players aren’t available to anyone except the clubs they’re tied to, I don’t know why anyone includes them and tries to make out the picks will get worse

It's more that when people go looking at, for example, the ESPN Power Rankings - they need to remember to either exclude the academy/father-son kids or push the pick range back to allow for them. It's a valid reminder at the very least.

They can blame Hawthorn for really ****ing them sideways by trading 14. Had Hawthorn kept 14 I can almost assure you that rationally West Coast would have ended up making a trade today whereby:

Hawthorn: Barrass

West Coast: Baker

Richmond: 14

With a few minor picks would have moved around.

Instead Hawthorn giving us pick 14 has put the Eagles into a no-win situation and now they have to trade back if they want to stay in the draft.

Nah, they screwed themselves.
Hawthorn offered them a fair deal, 14 + 2nd and only wanted F3 back. F3 was the sticking point. They should have just done it.

I checked Fin O’Sullivan highlights and he took some great marks, good leap on him.

I missed that one. If that's the case then you're right. All this over a F3?

Seems like many are pleased if we get 3 and lose 12 14 and Owies.
To me that seems like us being done over.

Feel free to try and convince me otherwise.
It ain’t over yet

Finn O'Sullivan

O'Sullivan recorded a 2.989 second 20m sprint, 8.152 seconds in the agility test and on Friday ran the 2km time trial in 6:28 minutes, placing him in the top dozen prospects across the three events.
He'll be our pick at 3, lock it in if he's still available. He was the driver for us to go for 3.

Langford is probably the one there, but he lacks the pace of other options. Lalor another, but he's been severely hampered by injury this year, and he's also not the quickest. Bo Allan another option, I reckon he's perhaps a bit reminiscent of Brodie Kemp though, so the question is what position he ends up playing.

They got greedy. Hawks said screw you guys then and traded 14. Good on them.

Now Eagles are in a situation where, they don't want to get rid of any F1 picks because they want to hunt Warner next year. But they've courted Baker and their list manager has a good relationship with him...

If you go after a player, then don't get the deal done it can really hurt your chances when chasing the next player... I wonder what Warner will think if they don't get the deal done for Baker? And that must be playing on their mind massively for them to consider this trade.

Just saw this on socials in relation to picks 12-14 and pick 3:

It's like you're at the pub and the 20 contestants for Miss Australia walk in, your first thought, thank you God.

Five minutes later, Cindy, Elle and Claudia walk into the same pub.......

For those over 40, it will make you think!
I think I want to buy that pub...

Going to the draft, especially with pick 3 (as good as pick 1 in any other draft) is the right move.

This list is ready and doesn't need Houston. It needs an improved coaching strategy, in game coaching and high-performance program. You can keep adding all the talent you want, but if you don't get these fundamentals right, it won't matter who you bring in.

In that case, focusing on the future with such a high pick to join the likes of Ollie, Cowan, Moir, Binns, Camporealie etc. is exactly what we should be doing. We are not getting any younger. What a great strategy to bring in such top talent.

Pick 3???

Draftees from 1 - 20 earn $105,000. We can afford 3 draftees (at least) by including Owies in the deal.

We have decided to lay it all on the line and go for a game changer this year and in 2 years (Walker) and back that our list gets healthy and that Lord, Moir, Binns, Ben and Lucas can prove that they are AFL quality.

I absolutely love the strategy. Of course there are risks involved. I believe that with good coaching and an average injury run we have the capacity to challenge. I think that this move extends that capacity to 4 - 5 years. I fully understand that others might not agree though.

We all have different opinions about the draft choice, however one thing that's impressive is Austin's ability to get what he wants. He obviously had a player he's targeting with pick 3 and stuck to the plan.

Kudos to him 👏

There was chat about Austin wanting to move up to take Sheezel in 2022 - perhaps he lost the argument that year, but now has the keys after this year's regression under Voss?

I've only seen minimal highlights of Smith, Draper and O'Sullivan.

Draper was the stand out by far. Explosive speed from the contest, good vision, strong-bodied.

Smith looked like a smaller-bodied Draper, with less speed and less strength.

O'Sullivan was the least impressive out of the 3. He took some decent marks and has a decent kick.

Can anyone fill me in on why we would take O'Sullivan over Draper?

Not to mention he finished second in the running vertical leap. This is important in making him a viable half forward in his formative years.
