I find the idea that we've mismanaged Kemp to be odd, and his value is being inflated a bit. He played defender as a junior, spent a bit of time on ball and forward, but was mainly a defender. We've played him primarily in his primary position. Just because his form has gone up and down doesn't mean we've mismanaged him.

He's been an ok 3rd tall defender, not strong enough to play proper KPP despite being KPP size, but athletic enough to play 3rd/loose. Has really good, and really bad, moments. He's spent 5 minutes up forward and looked good against the worst team in 20 yrs, ok against a bottom 8 side without any real impact, and poor against a good team in finals.

I'd rather not trade him personally, and I'd like to see him up forward after an off-season there, but his value is about a 2nd round pick. They aren't lowballing us with 27-32, it's about what we'd expect to pay if the shoe was on the other foot chasing an up and down, 23 yr old third tall.

He hasn't let it fester. He's immediately knocked back the offer. Also, knowing SOS, he is probably using Kemp as a smoke screen to put pressure on other trades.
Can't see a way that Saints are actually serious about securing Kemp, at least this year, knowing full well, according to SOS' own rules, if you go after a contracted player, you gotta pay up.

Lack of KP depth?

Curnow
McKay
Lemmey
Young
Weitering
O'Keefe
TDK
McGovern
Silvagni
Haynes
DGB or Durdin

and we will still bring in more players yet
C'mon Soapy...

Removing four first pick KPPs, that leaves...

One genuine depth KPP in Young
A marginal prospect in Lemmey
Two rucks
An undersized Silvagni returning from ACL
A rising 33yo HBF in Haynes.
A perpetually injured Durdin.

And we have a VFL program to run.

Yes i agree, but i was referring to the fact that the poster was happy to trade Kemp for pk 32, and he referred to him as a fringe player.
I think it was just a point I wanted to expand on, that line triggered that thought process.

I agree with your point there, in that I wouldn't expect that impact from a pick 32 at all.

He said KPD. We have Weiters, Gov, Haynes, Kemp, Young and Durdin. DGB isn’t even on our list.

That doesn’t scream quality depth, and only difference from 2024 is we’ve replaced Marchy with Haynes who is soon to be a 33 year old with injury history. We were exposed massively when Gov went down, and was so bad we had to rely on Durdin - and even he got injured.

Kennedy I understand as we are well stocked. Not a KPD.

On a 44 person list how many do you want?

It doesn't matter how you rate them. They are on the list. You don't have extra to cover for some that you think are no good. You can only have so many and we have as many as any other club

What about the mistake of depth?
Not sure if you’ve noticed but Gov pings hammies like it’s an Olympic event & we could not even give Young away.
So who exactly do we have as a tall that’s under 30 that doesn’t have a shocking injury history & can actually play?

The fact that we’ve said we’d have accepted 27 tells you that we’re comfortable with that side of it. Who knows what we have planned for the drafts?

lol Supported the club since the 80's

I can be objective and not overrate our players like some people do.

Watch how many fans bag players during the season and as soon as the trade season comes around they want first rounders in any deal ;)
Fair enough I'll take tour word for that.
You are very close to his value in your estimation but, it's not the value that drives the players price up it's the circumstance.
The circumstance is he's contracted, regularly plays AfL for us, happy where he is and another club is trying to acquire him, so that raises his trading price.

In my view pick 32 won't get it done because of circumstance rather than overrating the player.

Unpopular but if we offload Kemp, I still wouldn't mind Membrey. Provides KPF depth or can play as a 3rd tall. I know Austin said no but I personally think he could play a role for us. Only if we lose kemp and gain the extra list spot.
Think Pies are about to/already have signed him.. Probably not much left in him tbh

Really? When did we say that?
In a HUN tweet in the dead period of the last day of trade?

Yeah, I wouldn’t be banking that as fact

Sam Day to replace Joe ...

It’s absolute madness that Austin has let this kemp talk to fester given our lack of KPD depth.
Not only that why on earth would we trade a promising young defender improving year on year anyway. And to be willing to accept a mid 20's pick bewilders me. I can't believe that report is true. Kemp probably has no interest in playing for another club. Should have been shut down immediately

Geez with the proposed Rioli deal, Richmond are going to have a mega draft hand. Pressure on them to not **** it up!

I'm sure their Richard Tambling nightmares are every bit as vivid as our Paddy Dow, Luke Livingstone, Blaine Bratwurst ones.

But they have a helluva lot of picks to spend in (allegedly) a strong draft, so well done them.

Would undo all Austin's good work in one foul swoop if he even got 27.
Unless he was made an offer to good to refuse by St.Kilda, I think our culture would take a serious hit trading one of our best 22 under contract against his wishes.

I think we've done enough 'pruning' for this year.
