Any resemblance here to the end of 1994?

Pretty sure I've heard Parko say that he was actually going to be fired because the club offered his position to both Gary Lyon and Brereton. They both refused so Parko was third choice.

If that's how that actually went down it's interesting that one of the leading players this year is also named Lyon.

Gary Lyon would have been 27 in 1994 ?????

I really think Cripps would have used weaker terms or spoken in a more indirect fashion, if there was a relationship issue with DT. On the face of it, makes the reactions in here seem even more irrational.
I thought that was about as straight a bat as he could play. No way to tell anything from that.

We start with SPS & 2nd
They ask for SPS & 1st
A week goes by.....

We state the only way our 1st is included with SPS is they have to give back their 2nd as well

They counter with we will require your 3rd back.

Deal gets done early on final day

Carlton:
Out- SPS, 1st rd pick, 3rd rd pick
In- Cerra, Freo’s 2nd rd pick

Freo:
Out- Cerra & 2nd rd pick
In- SPS, Carl 1st & 3rd rd picks

Whilst I think we’ll pay slightly more than that, I don’t think you’re far off at all.

Would be crazy to trade our future first with the uncertainty around the placeunless it’s something similar to the Stocker deal.

Teague conducting exit interviews is interesting, as are Cripps' comments this morning

Who else does the interviews if Teague and Lloyd were insta-sakced noting that Barker is also already gone?

Sayers himself? "Hi mate, never met before but I'd like to talk about your performance all year"

"and together with Teague have a big year next year"
“We have a great working relationship. All year we communicated all the time. He’s a great bloke, we have great respect for each other.”

If that's a straight bat (particularly the second quote), I wouldn't mind bowling a few off-spinners at him.

It's OK to prefer we go down the youth path with Cerra, but the difference in quality between Cerra and Parker is not 'marginal'.

There is a clear gap between the two and it is complete guess work as to whether or not Cerra reaches Parker's heights.

I'm sure someone has already posted whynotboth.jpeg ?

'Tis better to have bluemoured and lost than to never have bluemoured at all...
The real treasure was the bluemours we got overly excited about along the way.

You Wouldn't need the doosra to rip one past him that is for sure

And Cerra doesn't come on... Goes both ways.

I wonder how many have actually watched him closely. He isn't that good atm. He has potential.
I said it's ALL guess work. That includes how Cerra's career pans out, but considering he's only 21 and his career progression has been fairly linear so far, I'd be more comfortable with that gamble than a 29yo.
It's all personal opinion, and I'm happy for Chism to have his. I'm not trying to convince him to change his mind, just countering the argument.
Cerra could stay a 23-24 possession player for the next 10 years, he would still be an upgrade on Newnes, Cottrell, SPS and LOB, and the output, IMO, would be more beneficial for the club longterm than 3 years of Parker at 27 touches a game.
As for the 'he isn't that good at the moment', this is his last 7 games, with season average vs last 7 game average. Look at his inside 50s. Nobody on our team averages more than 4.32 (Ed Curnow) and we have the Coleman medalist. He's exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. 25 touches and 6 inside 50s off the wing next year with a fit Harry and Charlie??? Yes please! Assuming his trajectory from his last 7 games carried on to next year of course.

Parko came back in '92 after 3 years out of the 8, and we made a GF in '93 and finals again in '94. Surely we weren't going to sack a 3 time (at the time) premiership coach with a win record like he had.

Looks like I may have got the names wrong but if you google Carlton coach 1994 or something like that you will eventually discover that Parkin himself thought he was gone after straight set losses in '94 and this is when he came up with the plan to empower playing groups.

I thought I remember in an interview sometime he mentioned the job was offered to two alternates but they didn't want it. I thought those two were Lyon and Brereton but, as someone pointed out, they were still playing at the time so probably wasn't them. Although I think Brereton finished in '96 so we could have been trying for an early retirement.

Might be totally wrong on all this but is just a memory that I have for some reason.

Bit of a nothing statement from Cripps. Didn't really go in to bat for Teague and basically said the bare minimum to not cause a fuss in the media.

Teague should get media handling tips from Cripps.
