The media's collective take on all this is actually hilarious.

For the last two seasons Teague has demonstrated absolutely zero insight into how to best manage both a list and a gameplan.

It started last season in the hub when he played virtually the same team every single week, with games being squeezed in to fit the compressed schedule, until he ran that squad into the ground and we surrendered the season.

He also appeared to flat out refuse to set any standards at match committee throughout 2021, retaining underperforming senior players for weeks beyond what was fair or justified.

Throw in the overriding theme of his coaching tenure being a general lack of respect for defensive footy in any shape or form (which is staggering but he even articulated this before the Bulldogs match - "we'll just out-score them"), and you have somebody who just simply isn't up to it.

We have too many talented players to put up with this garbage and he had to be moved on, simple as that. The media can continue having a cry about it if they want but Carlton should be satisfied with their decision, even if it was a little messy in arriving at it.

Not just that but the media (rightfully-ish) put the spotlight on Teague all year.

Will he retain his job? He's on thin ice. We can't defend. Players are lazy. Highlighting the 5-goal run thing ad neaseum. Teague isn't up to it, etc etc.

Then we fire Teague and they're all 'haha, carlton gonna Carlton, they never learn'. Power brokers this, supporter base that.

They half cornered us into firing Teague then blasted us when we did. We can't win (literally or figuratively).

It's incredible how quickly revisionist takes become the norm and David Teague is heralded as a super coach who wasnt given the chance to shine.

Get the **** out of here with that bullshit, moronic media people.

I dreamt last night that Clarko was staying at my house and conducting interviews with Gethelred and happydude as potential assistant coaches.

He caught me eavesdropping and went absolutely ballistic at me.

It's definitely a sign!!!

That I spend too much time on BF...
I had a crazy dream last night too, ferris. Don’t remember what it was, but I remember waking up filled with anxiety. Thank goodness I’m awake now and back in the real world…
Nope! This is worse!

Surely the comments made by Riley Beveridge regarding O'Brien, Dow and SPS can't be true. How can list management decisions be made without a coach. If SPS wants to leave I understand the trade. But with Dow for instance why would we trade him. He has shown great improvement in 2021 when he was given a full time midfield role. Yes he has deficiencies but he is what 21 years old. We will get no where near what we gave up for him (same as O'Brien). They also wouldn't be on any massive $$$ so I don't understand the logic in trading them.

Seriously. Sure, we could have "surrounded him with more support" in 2023. But that "support" would have literally had to have been like, "Okay David, we're not going to listen to you anymore with regard to selection, gameplan or player management, here's what we're doing instead...".

I'm sure that would have worked out great!

The issue with Dow is he has a lot of deficiencies in areas that are important for his best position as an inside mid:
- Poor Tank
- Poor Defensively
- Average Disposal
- Physically Small
- Struggles to Accumulate
- No secondary position

I would still prefer to keep him given his limited trade value, but he needs a massive pre-season to be in the round one team.

Dow has improved his tank dramatically, in one game he run well over 14 KM, 2nd only to Walsh

The other thing, he isnt that small, in weight, so no excuses there.

IMHO, Dow struggles to read the play, often in no means land when away from stoppages.

Very much see ball, get ball, struggles away from that.

All three are conditional, non contact type, small framed, lightweights, aerobic capacity fair only, far too many of similar mold.
Actually one could Fisher to the group.

Yeah super coach in our dreams, David Teague is a great guy , gets on well with boys , but is not perspective or shrewd match day, far too slow to react.

A great man once told us not to believe the media…

I would be very surprised at this point if Ross Lyon doesn't get the job.

Jay Clark is a pretty reliable journo at any rate, oi don't think he would have run with Buckley pulling out of the race if he didn't genuinely believe it was true.

Beautifully said.
I was also in the “Teague has been treated horribly” camp, but if Sayers is to be believed (and I have no reason to think otherwise) it was Teague’s request to postpone analysis of the review findings until after Round 23. He was shown the results on Monday, given a chance to respond and then the decision made on Wednesday. Clearly the writing was on the wall, but it appears the timeline was chosen by Teague and his people. Therefore any sympathy for his treatment is lessened IMO.
The factors you listed are all compelling reasons to let him go, and the right decision was made.
