Clubs are in the process of slashing $3 million from their soft cap expenditure by the start of next year

Restrictions to coaching from the soft cap and that includes runners on the field is a significant advantage to better more mature teams and leaves young raw sides at a disadvantage. Better more mature sides require less coaching. Younger weaker sides require more coaching. AFL keep making more and more mistakes when it comes to evening up the competition and increasing recovery/rebuild time frames IMO.

Also won't decreasing the soft cap result in lower medical standards which means more injuries which is bad for the game?

when there are no crowds then revenue is down significantly.

Inevitably spending has to be cut as well.

I don’t see how this correlates to “AFL mistakes”.

It’s Government policies that have caused the problem.

I’m absolutely not a fan of the current AFL administration but not sure what you expect the AfL to do in these circumstances.

How was his game? Saw his impressive stats early in the 4th (missed the middle part of game) but hadn’t noticed him much until he bobbed up a couple of times at the end.

I think he had mostly played midfield in his first few seasons (even mix of contested and uncontested possessions, 2nd in the B’n’F in 2019), then a back injury ruined his 2020 and I think he lost his midfield spot this year and he has been playing a role wherever he’s been needed this season.

Cripps will be right - the off season will be a godsend for him, as he was playing injured for most of the season
But, yeah some more mids like Hewett or Cerra would be great

Surely the comments made by Riley Beveridge regarding O'Brien, Dow and SPS can't be true. How can list management decisions be made without a coach. If SPS wants to leave I understand the trade. But with Dow for instance why would we trade him. He has shown great improvement in 2021 when he was given a full time midfield role. Yes he has deficiencies but he is what 21 years old. We will get no where near what we gave up for him (same as O'Brien). They also wouldn't be on any massive $$$ so I don't understand the logic in trading them.

I'm tipping the president maybe sending different info to different people within the club to see what escapes so he knows where the leaks are. You can't come out and say we have a list to play finals and that the report found our own players weren't developed properly and then get rid of said players. Also if Lyon gets in and then wants SOS back it doesn't look good when all of SOS's expert picks have just been traded out the club due to failing.

I guess that's one appeal of having an experienced coach like Lyon...we shouldn't have to pay extra for a 'mentor' in an official capacity.
