After being hurt by this club so many times, I just have a slight feeling that we will stuff this up somehow.
I understand the process but why would we hunt Lyon then put him in a process?

Whately and Riewoldt looking all smug and trying to get Sellers to unload on carlton coaching selection by being very impressed with how how Collingwood have handled theirs.
N.R. " how does that compare with what you want to see happen at the blues"
M.M. "we don't have to do what everyone else wants. We can do what we like. It doesn't worry me what they do as long as they get the right bloke ".

I love the response and I want to agree with the sentiment, but...

I think you usually get the right bloke by going through the right process...

Don't agree with this.

Even if you headhunt a coach, there still needs to be some kind of process.

Yes, Lyon's record mostly speaks for itself, but we still need to know.... Where does he see our list? What does he think our strengths and weakness are? What would he change, what would he enhance? What's his idea of a gameplan that would suit the list and what needs to be done to get the team to finals and/or a premiership? Does he want to rebuild or top up? Do he still have the passion? The drive?

Clarko is almost a no-brainer if he wants the job, but I wouldn't hire him without getting his answers on those kinds of Qs. Just hiring him on his reputation risks being another Malthouse/Pagan. Not saying it would be another MM, but it could be if you didn't do proper due diligence.

OK, maybe Clarko and Lyon don't need to do 748 powerpoint presentations to the coach selection panel. But they need to go through a process of sorts.

And as part of what the panel present as their recommendation to the board I'd think they'd need to include the alternatives they considered and the reasoning for their decision.

I propose a moratorium on the use of the term 'process' until the coach is appointed - it's so heavily overused (if not misused), and disproportionately vaunted in AFL circles.
Yes but you can’t just go bringing in a moratorium willy nilly. Needs a process.

Carlton Coaching Panel - Final Report

Final Recommendation: Hire Ross
Rationale: He said yes
Alternatives considered: Clarko
Rationale for rejection: He said no

Lets make a trade for Peter Ladhams to teach our ruck division the ropes.

At 292 cms he’s incredibly underrated….

Sellers can come across as a meathead at times but he is bang on here. I'm sick of the pile on (hate that term BTW) with anything to do with Carlton, as long as we get there right bloke who cares how its done. You know the saying about opinions and a-holes right?
It had to happen.
Up yours Fox.

Respectfully disagree. In my mind, yes I’d also prefer to just appoint Ross if that’s the call that’s been made.

However the issue at play here is that the AFL media and by extension some groups of supporters have been slamming our club and our processes of late especially given Teague was also anointed as coach without process. So there are some factions that prefer we go through a process and if Ross is the man that gets the job then it will be more palatable for those people. It gives the external world less ammunition (or at least less proof) to call us out either now or next season if we have a form slump.

Whilst I and many others don’t care for a process and just want the best coach, I can appreciate the approach we are taking even if it is just a facade.

Teague was appointed through a process, there were others interviewed including Voss.

We went through a process with Bolton as well

In fact every senior employee brought in under MLG as president went through a recruitment process, except SOS…..

Ironically it seems both Teague and Bolton got the flick as a consequence of being too stubborn at sticking to their coaching process.

We...thats the thing with Sellers.....no mock neutrality with the champ....just says it like it is and wears his passion for carlton for all to see.

When we go two days without a Bluemour I think "Thank ****, no more leaks!"

Then a Bluemour lands and I think "Thank ****, it's been a full two days without a bluemour!"

I actually had a dream last night about meeting Brian Cook outside IKON Park, then I got hit by a number 19 tram

Aside from that, I got nothing to report 😭😭😭🙈🙈🙈🚊🚊🚊

There was absolutely no process for Teague.

I thought this was what you thought when a new Bluemour drops :p

Agree with this, however Kinnersley's appointment is important as the sexual harassment allegations aren't going to go away. The club owes it to members and staff to address the issue.

After we got nailed for breaching the salary cap, we set out on a lengthy pursuit of being much much better than merely good footy citizens; we’ve been shithouse at footy ever since

High physical and mental performance is a contextual pursuit; we’re in a footy environment. In that context, and life generally, respect encompasses realisation that no one is perfect. I reckon one has to wonder whether CFC’s current respect program is fairdinkum or whether it’s essentially an aspirational gimmick open to be used and unused for commercial and or other political purposes.

Lyon’s not perfect, not many are, but he’s a good citizen. if his coaching stacks up, appoint him. All that other stuff is unrealistic distraction.

Who cares about you, is Brian OK? :D

What of prospective candidates - are they merely actors in the charade? Will they bother if they suspect it's a stitch up?

It wouldn't be the first time that the overwhelming favorite failed to land the job.

Fire your shot. If you present well and don't land the job word of mouth spreads fast.
