So the selection panel consists of:

1. Greg Williams - Already closely connected to Ross and reported that he has Ross as his number 1 target
2. David Parkin - Already closely connected to Ross
3. Tim Lincoln - new board appointee who was bought on specifically by a President who has been been linked to wanting Ross
4. Patty Kinnersley - Domestic Violence advocate, IMO was strategically bought onto the panel to be seen as the "clubs conscious" and to justify the appointment vis-à-vis suitability following public reports of his prior allegation while at Fremantle.

Supporting Cast:

1. Luke Sayers - publicly linked to Lyon, has spoken to him numerous times
2. Brad Lloyd - linked to Lyon while at Freo
3. Cain Liddle - there as the head of the organisation and IMO will want to keep the board happy with any decision, just to save his job following the public links to Cook.

The cynic in me thinks that the "leaks" of the approaches to Brad Scott and Brian Cook were strategic also.

I’m going to post this here for posterity. I reckon the Pies picked the right coach…

Lets make a trade for Peter Ladhams to teach our ruck division the ropes.

292cm. How could he lose a tap?

Have to say this Ross Lyon stuff really makes me uneasy and is just a shambolic look.

I'd rather if we are headhunting a coach just go ahead and make the appointment after 2 weeks of background checks / interviews / meets and greets etc.

This sham of putting on a coaching committee, chasing Brad Scott, Nathan Buckley, Ross Lyon to apply and then giving the job to Ross is just a terrible look.

Do they think everyone is stupid? That if Ross appointment doesn't work out in 2 years they will be sitting at a coach sacking press conference saying "oh but we went through a process with a coaching selection committee comprised of many people and they all recommended Ross so don't blame us!".

I try not to be overly negative but really hard to defend this one. Not helped by the selection panel. At least if we had some solid, independent names on it would give at least some comfort it was a proper panel.

Consider the possibility the panel and process isn't a complete sham and they will actually consider the merits of various candidates.

Reckon your intuitions are on point. The word already has the committee as a 'front' to appease the masses, but a part of me still thinks that - IF they talk to a few candidates (Voss, Brad, take your pick) - then we could get a surprise.

TL;DR - they may not have 100% committed to Ross yet, however given him a strong indication so long as he turns up and impresses the board members on the committee.

Respectfully disagree. In my mind, yes I’d also prefer to just appoint Ross if that’s the call that’s been made.

However the issue at play here is that the AFL media and by extension some groups of supporters have been slamming our club and our processes of late especially given Teague was also anointed as coach without process. So there are some factions that prefer we go through a process and if Ross is the man that gets the job then it will be more palatable for those people. It gives the external world less ammunition (or at least less proof) to call us out either now or next season if we have a form slump.

Whilst I and many others don’t care for a process and just want the best coach, I can appreciate the approach we are taking even if it is just a facade.

I don't think the club can win either way. They are getting a massive kicking in the media and also from members and supporters.

Collingwood gets the headline - a new dawn. We would get - Carlton hires an unknown coach because nobody else wants to coach them.

The amount of moaning on here is something else (not directed at you). People bag them as same old Carlton no matter what they do.

They are really obligated to at least get different points of view about taking the list forward & not just appoint a coach.

When you objectively consider that the season finished roughly 2 weeks ago for us, the amount of information sent out by the club and the amount of activity around board changes and the coach selection panel, I think the Sayers etc are going flat out to get things sorted.

I'm happy to just hang tight for another month or two & see what they come up with.

The similarities with Hannerberry are that they are both hard at it swan midfielders. If we took him on for 4 years @ $750k and he copped a long term injury it would be a nightmare. I did say he was durable. Personally don't think that we would be a good fit for him because if he were to leave he would be looking for a club that could win a flag in the next couple of years.

Caro reported that the swans have vehemently denied that they have only offered 2 years and that the swans will find a way to keep him. Pretty sure that he will stay.

I think it’s just a media beat up in regards to Parker, a few will fall out, Hewett, Stephens, or someone else, not sure how their cap is so tight.

Agree with this, however Kinnersley's appointment is important as the sexual harassment allegations aren't going to go away. The club owes it to members and staff to address the issue.

Gees the Bluemours are scraping the barrel.
Looking forward to hearing something locked in.
Ahhhh patience is a virtue, but even more difficult during lock down No 6.

Kinnersley or otherwise. We’re a footy club chasing physical and mental high performance. He’s an accomplished coach. That other matter is settled and is thus a non-matter further emphasised by way of confidential agreement. Sign him up.
