Don't agree with this.

Even if you headhunt a coach, there still needs to be some kind of process.

Yes, Lyon's record mostly speaks for itself, but we still need to know.... Where does he see our list? What does he think our strengths and weakness are? What would he change, what would he enhance? What's his idea of a gameplan that would suit the list and what needs to be done to get the team to finals and/or a premiership? Does he want to rebuild or top up? Do he still have the passion? The drive?

Clarko is almost a no-brainer if he wants the job, but I wouldn't hire him without getting his answers on those kinds of Qs. Just hiring him on his reputation risks being another Malthouse/Pagan. Not saying it would be another MM, but it could be if you didn't do proper due diligence.

OK, maybe Clarko and Lyon don't need to do 748 powerpoint presentations to the coach selection panel. But they need to go through a process of sorts.

Agree.

Not all the candidates need to necessarily complete or address all the same panel requirements or criteria (there's a significant body of work already available from Clarkson and Lyon), but there needs to be a proc..., umm mechanism :), to ask a few questions of intent and direction, and to provide an avenue :) for another candidate to perhaps surprise.

It was addressed by the AFL integrity unit was it not?
After we got nailed for breaching the salary cap, we set out on a lengthy pursuit of being much much better than merely good footy citizens; we’ve been shithouse at footy ever since

High physical and mental performance is a contextual pursuit; we’re in a footy environment. In that context, and life generally, respect encompasses realisation that no one is perfect. I reckon one has to wonder whether CFC’s current respect program is fairdinkum or whether it’s essentially an aspirational gimmick open to be used and unused for commercial and or other political purposes.

Lyon’s not perfect, not many are, but he’s a good citizen. if his coaching stacks up, appoint him. All that other stuff is unrealistic distraction.

AFL and the club would have different priorities and agendas. In our case, this is a workplace safety issue.

I'm not too sure which coach I am wedded to. I think it's hard for us to fully evaluate.
We can all make assertions around Lyon, Clarko, B Scott previous coaching styles.
The reality is that coaching styles and the approach to the players continuously evolves.
I'm sure that Ross Lyon if he was selected would introduce new strategies to the game plan and he will develop relationships with our players with the benefit of huge game & life experience.
I am in my 50's and I don't approach my work or life as per my 30's or 40's.
I wish people would just stop making assumptions and writing people off based on old history.
I want the best person for Carlton.
PS. I did like Teague, but I was not convinced he could drive consistency of effort, didn't have multiple contingency plans and I think he was a bit soft.
IMHO.

…for which there’s established legislative and related industry standards and processes; workplace safety isn’t an arbitrary ideal outside of that framework. Insofar as specific industry norms: didn’t the AFL already look into this?

Club is a shambles. I can see more sh*t hitting the fan. I can see a real scenario where Ross says no and then any prospective coach not even wanting to look at us. Then what do we do? This scenario happens then we are well and truly f’ed

Ross is our safety option. If Clarko or some other hot young thing isn't going steady with us in a few months, Ross is there for us.

The club needs to ask questions and conduct due diligence to a level that other clubs acting reasonably would do. It’s not expected to be absolutely perfect.

Don't believe everything the media tells you. All that does is play into their hands and give them their desired outcome.

Past incident suggests that there is a level of risk that a responsible employer would need to look into - in any industry. Disregard the AFL, their only interest is in sweeping controversies like this under the rug.

Wouldn't Lloyd know where Ross' skeletons are buried?
Who would be best placed to do "backgrounding" on Ross?

And Ross on Lloyd

You don't need to do backgrounding, Ross has been at a number of clubs as an assistant and head coach twice. Multitude of players, coaches and admin staff

The industry isn't that big

Back in the day, Malthouse was a pretty good coach also. Best gameday coach in the league........ We really should choose a coach who has the right personality for our situation.

There are only 18 jobs available in total and maybe 1 or 2 a year at best .....they'll be lining up to coach the Blues.
