i cant believe how blind some people are when it comes to bashing pitto - stats before brad went down with injury and supports out clearance game dominance stats early in the season -#1 for hitouts to advatange % by a fair stretch -pretty sure the club would laugh at losing a draft pick and $700k pa for grundy as well given ive heard some asking that dumb question

Last year half of the Carlton posters were dunking on Pitto, I posted similar statistics and people shut me down telling me that I don't understand the ruck position.

I really rate him. Yes, he isn't Gawn, Jackson, Grundy or English around the ground but he is a hulking human whose effective hitouts are EXTREMELY effective.

Teams with ruckmen like Pitto win more premierships than teams with Ruckmen like Gawn or Grundy.

Look at the ruckmen from the past say 10 premiership teams. Only Gawn/Jackson are the outlying, A grade multi-threat ruckmen to win. Even then it wasn't their influence that won it. Mostly it's done with workmanlike guys who at worst half the contest and provide some presence. Pitto is exactly that.

I suspect Joel Selwood will be offered a coaching job at all 18 clubs

Well one thing is for certain, after watching Duckwood fumble through his community services award speech at the Brownlow and his captain's speech at the GF, nobody is offering him a media gig :tearsofjoy:

Many just don't understand the value of quality ruckwork.
Centre dominance>another handful of goals & it's not even close.

Nah he won’t do it at Cats if he’s serious. Too much history and needs to be exposed to different ways of doing things.
He lives in Geelong, supported Geelong, played for Geelong, I understand the lure of seeing different systems but location would play its part - not that Geelong is super far from Melbourne but its not the same as playing for Richmond and coaching Hawks after - Sam Mitchell with a tiny stint at the eagles is doing alright back at the Hawks

I mentioned this earlier too, I think you agreed with me! Either way, we agree now!

I like Pitto in our team, a lot. I wouldn't mind TDK playing way more as a KPF/KPD and being a center bounce specialist. Start Pittonet deep Forward, TDK in the bounce and have them rotate. Create a mismatch with TDK up forward, play to his athleticism not just his raw height. If he's alone i50 with Darcy, Sinclair, Witts etc. kick into space and let him run into it.

So many ways to play our rucks. I don't think that means that we don't have to improve our stocks, but also believe that many here underrate how dynamic we can look with Pitto/TDK.

If all pitto did was give silver service to our mids like he did pre-injury which gave us an unreal amount of quick easy inside 50s - i almost couldn't care if he never took a mark or laid a tackle for the entire season

I read it on a page or 2 ago so don't want to take credit for the thought but Cook could be a big player for Selwood and coaching.

I don't recall the show but talking about whether Selwood should stay at Geelong to coach or go elsewhere the idea seemed to be that he at least should coach elsewhere for a short time to get some broader experience and then return to Geelong once he's ready. Going somewhere with someone familiar would be the ideal transition and with Cook already having stated he's in the role for 3 years (iirc) it'd be an ideal 2 yr experience for Selwood to coach under his management and also gives him a timeframe window to work with.

Add to the fact we're a team on the rise and are desperate for some recent premiership experience in the stable I think we'd be quite an attractive team for Selwood to come into coaching.

Pittonet can't play forward but let's not pretend Soldo is materially better in that role.

The bloke has kicked more than 2 goals in a season just twice in his career.

Following on from this Soldo has averaged 2 marks per game and has never played more than 14 games in a season.

Suspect that they may try and palm him off to GWS as part of the Hopper and Taranto deals.

Cripps w Pittonet

R1 - 1 vote(was really bog)
R2 - 3 votes
R3 - 3 votes
R5 - 0 votes
R6 - 3 votes (Pitto injured)
R20 - 3 votes
R22 - 0 votes
R23 - 3 votes

8 games: 5 best on ground, 1 1 vote (should've been 3) and 2 no votes - 16 of his 30 votes in about a third of the season

Bottom line: Pittonet makes Cripps better.

The next time someone wants to question Pitto's ability consider this.

Only 4 wins though

Lachie Plowman had a winning percentage of 66.6% playing in the seniors this year. (9/6). When he didnt play we won 42% of the time (3/4).

See what I did with stats there.

You're wrong, the stats from 2022 tell just how important pitto was to Cripps playing well.

As opposed to the 0 times Pitto has done it?

He's not exactly a world beater forward but he is obviously better at it than Pittonet. 0.33 goals per game for Soldo vs 0.12 for Pitto, 16 goals in 49 games vs 5 in 41.

Still not sure I'd want him over Pittonet though, while better up forward it's not exactly a needle moving improvement holistically and Pitto has shown the impact he makes to our clearance game.

unpopular opinion incoming - i would entertain trading harry or TDK for a heavy price
Pittos only 26 until TDK takes clear #1 ruck spot we have too much money tied up across harry charlie and TDK to be carrying pittonet as well imo. Would love TDK and pitto to rotate with each other fwd/ruck but then you have a forward line with TDK harry and charlie plus small forwards and martin/SOS doesnt quite seem balanced to me. Or you look to trade pittonet if TDK comes along well this year to justify the price tag hes probably going to give us

Possibly we have, it wouldn't surprise me as I've made the point a few times lol.

If team aspires to win a premiership they need to be well balanced, effective in all positions. We can adapt and make do and nothing wrong with a solid team oriented workhorse.
However, Geelong‘s Rhys Stanley & Mark Blicavs are aerobic bests run all day, strong and skilled.
Gawn & Jackson likewise and soon English, Lobb & Darcy list goes on, all A grade and give their teams a significant edge and almost impossible to surpass.
There’s not so much workman like about these aerobically superior and skilled Ruckmen.

I feel with our midfield development we only have room for 2 of Pitto, TDK, and JSOS. I’m very interested to see where TDK does most of his preseason. If it’s forward/ruck then JSOS is probably on the way out, if it’s 95% ruck then he and pitto are directly fighting for 1 ruck position.

I like that you are trying to make a point

But

Rhys Stanley was considered a fairly poor ruckman a week ago - bit of a stretch to elevate him to the top line based on one game against a journeyman at his 4th club. Blicavs is used more as a utility.
English has been pushed around for a long time by aerobically inferior opponents for years.
Darcy is a fair way removed from being an aerobically superior athlete. A long way even.
Not sure how Lobb gets a mention. Has taken lots of pay checks for being tall. Below average ruckman and slightly above average forward. Unless you meant the Lobbe that used to play for us?

Collingwood disagree so strongly with your theory that they are trying to get rid of their aerobically superior ruckman that they paid too much for in favour if Cameron who is o.k. but not much more.

If you want aerobically superior we have tdk still learning his craft. More than happy with Pittonet because when he is playing we are a great centre clearance team. We just need to get a full season out of Pittonet and for tdk and Mirkov to continue learning the ropes. For mine it's not our greatest strength but it's not an area that needs rectifying.

Same same, but Cook.

I don’t disagree with you. Signs point to that. If JSOS is moved out of our team in favour of TDK or some other athlete I’d be worried about our teams level of footy IQ.
For his physical limitations, JSOS rarely loses contests and is often doing “smart” or “inspirational” footy things. There has to be room in our team for footy brains. Sam Mitchell was a limited athlete but had an amazing footy brain… Greg Williams too…

Pies have been hampered by poor salary structuring, bloated contracts, very similar to our , Gov , Martin and Williams the worst example.
This type of negligence ,mismanagement greatly reduces a team’s flexibility come end year when List improvement and moving on dead wood is so critical.
Just look at the team list movements for 2022 finalists.
So for Pies Grundy although a premium A grad Ruckman must be sacrificed.
if Demons secure a fit & healthy Grundy just watch the difference
to Gawns performances, if he can rest during a game whom can stop him.

With need in mind would TDK be better used as a key defender. I just don’t see Lewis young as a premiership key defender.
