Boxing Day Test: Australia v India @ MCG (Mon - Fri) *Part 5*

I want to see some Yorkers at Sharma.

And since India play spin so well, Lyon should struggle to hold on to his spot, especially since he is an absolute bunny with the bat.

When Watson comes back, we should play 4 quicks and no spinner.
Lyon isn't a bunny with the bat. I would have thought his contribution to 47 and the NZ Test clearly display that...

Wasn't a thrashing - that would mean that Australia was ahead from ball one and maintained a huge dominance from there to the end of the game. There were many points where India were arguably ahead, such as late on Tuesday before Tendulkar got out or when Australia were 4 down and only leading by 80 odd.

It was a comfortable win and barring weather it's 4-0. They don't move their feet on our wickets and cannot win.

I'm as ecstatic as the next person with our performance, but declarations like these always come back to haunt you. I'm sure there were a few people just as confident after flogging them in Melbourne last time they were here. They went on to lose a narrow one in Sydney, beat us in Perth and then draw on a road in Adelaide.

And in that series we had a much more stable and experienced batting line up.

The tail? Thought Hussey and Ponting were still at the crease...

The tail in the shed.

Also you're saying if a footy team is 10 points behind in the 3rd quarter, then wins by 8 goals - it can't be a comfortable win??

Don't compare sports, that never works.

I wouldn't put any money on that barring 60-1 odds minimum.

Great test, great win by Australia.

Ponting. :thumbsu: True champion, stood up when we needed him most yesterday. 4/27, team collapsing, Ponting under pressure, and he stands up to make 60 and form a 100+ partnership. Brilliant stuff Ricky.

I love Pattinson, enough said.

Siddle bowled excellent, ditto Hilf. Great knock by Cowen on day 1 and Hussey yesterday.

Go Aussies! :thumbsu:

I was elated today, we really exposed their batsmen, at the start of the summer i had severe doubts about whether we could take 20 indian wickets, but they collapsed badly which maybe puts our recent collapses into perspective?
Haddin is still a bad negative atm, marsh was a non contribitor but i think he has a dickload of talent, Pup captained really well but missed out with the bat, really the only negatives

Were you comfortable at 4/27? A lead of just 78 and only the tail remaining.

If the answer is no, as it should be, then it wasn't a comfortable win.

Almost every test match is won with relative ease at the end, i.e. cleaning up the tail. That doesn't make it a comfortable win overall.

Hussey's decision in the first innings has no relevance on the comfort level of the victory so I'm not sure why you mention that...

Just as being 4/27 has no relevance in regards to end result. In the end, it was a comfortable win, no matter what happened earlier.

Anyway, I'm just happy we kept them down and somehow won with what I originally thought was a bowling lineup that would struggle to take 20 wickets.

lyon, marsh, haddin, were the only ones who didn't really contribute in some way. their time will come, no doubt lyon will be called on to bowl a bit more down the track than he had to here. i would back marsh to play better too. haddin on the other hand..
reckon it would be one of their most satisfying wins in a while too, overall team effort, and after copping the NZ loss and resulting criticism.

not too worried about lyon's lack of wickets. I suspect his role will be to pin down the batsmen while the pacemen to their work. Even the Great Shane Warne, struggled against the indians. He's proved more than adequate and if he continues in that vein for then next 3 or 4 years, he'll be worth the punt. I do feel terribly sorry for o'keefe as I believe in earning your spot, and O'keefe SHOULD have been ahead of many, that said, lyon deserves his spot.

Haddin I see is the weakest link at the moment. The sooner we can get rid of him the better. Sadly he can't see his weakness and the selectors must chop him because he has been a liability for years now.

I hope khawaja continues to get runs in FC cricket because I would see him coming in for punter or hussey soon. We need defencive batsmen to protect siddle and Pattinson (plaigerising some one from the main test thread on day 2 or 3)

In Bigfooty if you don't like someone, you really don't...

Kinda forgetting this his his 4th test series and Patterson is even younger....I'm loving them both really and with more experience they will be OK. To me we ride everything on one test...hype them up after one good test and want them dropped foreve after one bad rather then realising you going to get that with inexperienced players and bowlers even more so.

Next test is suppose to be spinner friendly so if that's the case and patterson's figures aren't as good as MCG do we want to drop him like we want Lyon for this one? We shouldn't but that's the mentality with most here in a nutshell.

Don't want to be a ********, because your posts are good, but it's Pattinson, not Patterson :p

Saw 55 on Ch 9 when he came in to bat.

And not to be confused a batting average of 56.

i'm sure cricinfo used to have an algorithm whereby if a certain percantage of players runs scored had a balls faced attached to it, they'd give them a strike rate with an * marked next to it....

either they got rid of that, or they never had it and i just imagined... they should have it though.

Laxman looked so un threatening in both innings

Laxman has one of the worst records of starting series of any player going. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

Too much class in that line-up to keep failing. Though just for the Lols I'd be more than happy for Sachin to miss out on his 100th ton all series.

I agree with this. It really does make for bizarre reading when people want players dropped after one poor test.

Having said that I am just as guilty of this with Mitchell Starc, but that's because he never should have been picked in the first place. :p
